Hey guys, we are Justin and Lilly (plus 5),and we are building our off grid dream house together as a family!
In this video, we dodge a severe thunderstor as we scale 10 foot walls, hoping to not be struck by lightning. The front wall with the giant windows is raised with a simple pulley system and the Kubota L47 tractor. we are officially done framing the exterior walls of our off grid house!
We run into planning issues while framing the interior load bearing wall - the kitchen does not appear as big as we had hoped it would, and there's excess space in the living room. After much verbal sparring in 95 degree heat, and makeshift 2x4 walls moved multiple times, we decide to back the kitchen wall up a few feet. This will allow us to both recess the refrigerator, and save our marriage.
The wall and nook are framed, and Justin feels that it is necessary to tractor lift the wall with the six foot header. He is very strong, but he is not six foot header in a 10 foot wall strong. He knows his limits, and the Kubota L47 tractor is always there for him.
It feels great to have the wall framing done for the whole house, and we are looking forward to jumping in the pool and starting the wall sheathing!

A marriage is a great example of working together for a common goal. Discussion is always a good thing. Yes,when you layout the floor and your plans really don't make you happy, now is the time for a change.
The tractor is always the best solution when the lift gets heavy, it's called working smart. You are amazing and very resourceful in your plans.

I never had problems with nail guns when building houses. Never used one. 😊 28 ounce framing hammer all day long. Roofing hatchet for roofing. Finish hammer for finish work. I still believe nail guns leave things loose. But that’s just me. Enjoy watching the struggle and the successes. 😊

Looking great! I like the nook idea.
Just wondering what your plans are for all the pines that are near the house? I'd recommend taking them down at some point. When I bought my home 25 years ago, we had some near the house. They grew massive of course and overhang the house. The pine needles constantly clogging my gutters and limbs dropping on the roof. I was so scared a big storm would lay them through the house. I was finally able to hire someone to take them out. Expensive!!! All that to say, better to take them out when they're smaller. Lol
Yall stay hydrated, this Ga heat is brutal right now.

A nook is a cozy little corner or a small, safe area. A nook in the library can be a nice place to sit and read. If you have a "breakfast nook" in your kitchen, you know it's a space set back from the main room, maybe built into a corner or under a window, where you can sit a small table
