so i have two general regions of questions to persue after watching this video. first: what's the deal with the term moor? how does it relate to saracen, and the medieval west european conception of ""race"" and islam? and secondly: what do we know about the ethnic demographics of places in medieval times. we know that places werent 100% homogeneous of isolated local people, but what types of travellers would one expect to see and in what numbers? what economic niches did traveller fill and how far did they come from? how long did they stay? where there stable, second gen and so on communities of people with far away heritage like there is today? i know some things about the jewish diaspora and the romani migration, but not alot about other stuff of that ilk.
Wow, the interview with Tirumular was bad enough, but the little echo chamber session with Peter at the end completely showed me that you people aren't even dealing in reality! Europe as a white, Christian monolith was DEFINITELY a thing in the Middle Ages, and it doesn't even make someone racist to acknowledge that. Just because medieval people didn't have the exact same concept of whiteness as we do today doesn't mean that they didn't have a concept of whiteness. They considered anyone from Spain to Poland, or Byzantium to England, to be white. They even considered certain Muslim peoples to be white. However, the fact that Muslims were non-Christians was definitely something that made them foreign in the eyes of medieval Europeans, which I think you acknowledge in this interview.
Why are you inserting modern politics into the past? I just wanted to know about what the people of the middle ages thought about this subject. Drop the Intersectionalism please! For the love of God!!!
100% This channel has been doing this alot lately, its becoming completely irrelevant to its topics and untrustworthy. This is just gonna divide listeners further.
Your channel is definitely underrated

Blue and Green in medieval times is used to describe black people.
Great topic and conversation
Thank you 🙏🏽
Saracen in latin or Sarkinos in Greek
Originally a Syrian word (Sarakin) .. it means thieves or robbers
Arabic word (sariqeen) meaning thieves ironically
