I kinda viewed it as showing how we manipulate Isabeau to our own end through the loops, the way Siffrin feels he does when they try and get the perfect confession out of him. Especially since if you pair the immune to rocks + the paper maché hands, he behaves pretty much like a paper type instead of rock type, meaning we're changing the way he is.
