Not sure why, but i've always been fascinated by MRE's and their contents. Love to watch these honest reviews.
Same here
I am fascinated with America packaging 📦 of these meals😊. Love the sporks, , napkins, extra bags, all that extra stuff 👏. LOVE capitalism, love freedom, LOVE America and love our food culture!!! ❤️ I live off carbs, and just eat in moderation. I lost 13 pounds last month, slice of pepperoni, bag of chips and a coke for my daily meal. Breakfast 😂😂banana with a coffee.. dinner , just a portion of meat and a apple. Lost 10 lbs in a week
No matter if it’s an old cheese package or a newer one I alway always always knead that thing to death to make sure it’s mixed well. Army vet here and I like watching your videos.
I was a baker until my 25s, if you want to put almonds, hazelnuts, any kind of nut in a cake, roast it lightly first, just spread them in a tray and roast it in the oven until they dry just a little, then let them cool off before mixing it with the cake mix, it makes it easier to chop too. Interesting video, loved the rug story.
Great tip on the nuts. TFW!

Started watching Stevemre a long time ago and decided to expand to other mre videos. Your content is by far one of the best and enjoyable ones
The made-right sandwich sounds pretty darn good. Never thought of using some salt to balance out the mustard a bit.
When I was a young man I worked in construction. I carried a black lunchbox. Around an hour before lunch I'd set it out in the sun to heat my lunch which normally consisted of burritos or sandwiches made with toast, meat and cheese. This worked almost as good as an oven.
That's a great idea! I love it! TFW, Joe.
Your videos are starting to become one of my guilty pleasures !!! Never rlly knew anything about the military or MREs but they kind of remind of the dooms day meals my grandma has locked up in her basement . LOVE watching your videos while im eating . Some of these make me hungry!
I like, "dooms day meals." I have a few, just in case.........TFW
I don't know why, but these videos are so simple they really relax you
Former Marine here in Virginia...served 1986-1990 then recalled in 1991 for Desert Storm. I remember eating the MREs in the field . Everyone would trade this product for that product...etc. I Loved the orange pound cake and the dehydrated fruit! Yum😅 Great Memories for Sure! Semper Fi and thanks for the great video.
First let me begin by saying Thank You for your service. I just subscribed to your channel. My Dad was born in 1933 and was drafted in 1950 or 1951 to the U.S. Air Force as he was in the Korean War after a little while he came back home. He was a great man, as I'm sure all who served our country are the very best. Again thank you....
It was my pleasure to serve (although at the time not always the case). I had an uncle who was a cook in Korea. He said he hated to bring hot chow to the front 'cause the NK would always try to shell the truck carrying the food to keep it from getting to the American troops. I am happy you have that memory of your father, Kenneth. TFW!
@@MeAncient my dad was 1 of the main line cooks as well. When he came back from the war he & his wife bought a bakery. His wife was not my mother as they separated from each other.
Gotta have the Chili Mac, but you gotta do some horse-trading. Jalapeno cheese, Vegi Crackers. Heat the cheese with the mac. Crumble the crackers into the mac, and add the hot cheese and add Tobasco. YOU ARE SET! Pretty sure you already covered this tho. Good stuff man
Cool, had no idea they made a Sloppy Joe MRE. I'd be all over it! 👍
In 1983, my Navy ship was off the coast of Beirut. We had some tours around town. The city was once called "The Paris Of The Middle East". Sadly we saw many bombed out buildings.
What ship were you on, Lance? I spent some time on the Iwo Jima. TFW
My ship was the ASW Frigate USS Ainsworth, FF1090. We hunted Soviet subs.
I was there too. MARG 1-84, USS Ponce LPD-15. Not much liberty on that cruise.
@@USNVA11 I may be mistaken, but I believe once I did end up departing Beirut for Camp Le Jeune, our helicopter stopped off on the Ponce to pick up mail or something and then we headed to Cyprus on the first leg of our journey home. What did you do onboard ship, Lance?
Paris was once called the Baghdad of the West…
Wonderful surprise on a Sunday afternoon. That heater went to town, looked like if you laid down it would have taken off across deck!! Well done.
Michael, could have used to as steam power to propel something, that's for sure. TFW
Great Video Guys!!! Always love your sea stories too!! Keep 'em coming!!! Thanks, Shannon
Working on the next one, Shannon. TFW, as always.
ALPO! :)) The carpet reminded me. I was in the desert on a tent base, some yahoos snuck in our tent and stole hats. I snuck in their tent, boxed up 2 sweet camel hair blankets, boxed up and taped them, and addressed to me, quick in their tent. Walked to the mail tent right next door and mailed them lol. One of those great blankets sitting here looking at me 4' away nearly 40 years later. In winter, I use it. Statue is way expired on my retributional reappropriation :) ... I hope.
I think the statute of limitation is way past......I hope so.....TFW!
always love your vids, thank you for your service
You are welcome. TFW
Thanks, that was a good review. I do appreciate you trying each item by itself and then trying items together.
Frank, it was my pleasure. TFW!
I've seen so many of your videos thinking i was subscribed but i wasn't but i am now thank you for your service to this country i appreciate it and thank you for the awesome videos
Welcome aboard and TFW!
Military from 1977-2001. Like you, started with C-Rats first, then when I went overseas we had the initial MREs. EVERYONE stayed away from the Omelette, but the ham slice was great. It's amazing what you can do when you get your fire team together and they start combining different pouches together. It was almost an art form that here some guys that were pure genius at what they could concoct. Where I live now they still have newer MRE's for sale in the commissary that could be "care packaged" to you. Take care
Keep up the great job, and thank you for your service I watch you all the time 🇺🇸🇺🇲
Sloppy Joe is awesome 😋
We have it every Sunday for lunch.
Thanks for the vid 👍
Thank you for your service!
I Thank You and Others who have Served! Great channel!
My pleasure and TFW!
As someone currently in the Army, your videos help me decide which MRE to choose when I’m in the field lol I believe this is an older ration though I haven’t come across a sloppy Joe or that would be my first pick
Yes, it was an older MRE than I first thought. It was actually from 2010. You should be able to get on line search for what is coming your way with the MREs out there now. TFW!
Great video sir. Much respect to you Marine.
Army Vet from Iowa here, love your videos! I honestly only ever really had one bad MRE, stayed away from it throughout my career. MRE’s can be delicious, and always if you are hungry enough.
You know it. Where in Iowa? I grew up in Marion. TFW!
8 years in the army loved MRE's so much better then the old field rations
I love your videos I love your faith I really appreciate your service for our country please continue to make these videos I enjoy your stories

Glad you enjoyed it, Srijan. It was fun to film. Working on another one. Still have a few pix from Beirut left to show. TFW, as always.
Thank you for your service Marine.
What an awesome channel. I love MRE's and love the channels. How great that I get to hear stories from a service man who lived off these when deployed. I wanted to start an MRE channel myself but video myself on hikes and hunts and the body fuel they provide. How cool would it be to see you and Steve MRE on a collab for knowledge and experience.
And he's back !!!! Where have you been me ancient, my youtube watch list hasn't been the same without your vids 👌 keep up the good work mate and keep them videos coming 👊
You are very kind. I'm already planning out the next one. TFW and stay tuned!

Great review. This was one of my go-to meals.
It was a good one, for sure. Definitely one of my top 10. TFW
Great review love that you say a prayer before you eat
Always and TFW, Tim.
My son(8) is sitting here watching with me and now I'm gonna have to order some MREs. I used to play with these as a kid. We would put the heater in a bottle and add water and cap it and throw it to get a good bang. Good memories
Have you shown him Ace Videos and High Adventure Videos? They are great family friendly channels. TFW
If you haven't seen Ace Videos and High Adventure Videos, they are great family friendly channels that are kid safe. TFW!
Yes sir. Subscribed to the whole family. We love you guys. You did a great job raising them
Thank you for your service 🫡🇺🇸 And for making great content!!
I was in the Army in the 90’s so I didn’t get to try a sloppy Joe one. We also used the grill of the Howitzer to warm it up.
Thank you for your service sir 🙏
wow! that looks quite delicious! :) great video, i gotta try one now!😃
You should! Andy, it really was good. TFW
Great video! It’s interesting that we’re the same age give or take a year or so and I grew up on sloppy joes but never heard of a made right until now. I enjoyed the pictures and the Persian rug story is priceless 😆 Thanks!
Maid Rites are definitely a Mid-Western thing. I don't know where you grew up, but where I grew up the term was understood by all. TFW

Awesome story. I like the this MRE looks really good!
I am a U.S.M.C. Combat Veteran. Served 2002-2010. Please take My advice, Marine. When using the M.R.E. heater, have the meal pouch and heater in the sleeve, ABOVE the fill line. Then, after putting in the water drop them both quickly down and lean the pack on something! I have done this 1000ands of times. Love Your Channel! SEMPER FI!
Good advice, Scott. We didn't have heaters when I got the first generation MREs. What was your MOS? TFW and Semper Fi.

that is a .50 Browning.Big brownie there, in the 70'a they were so much smaller. That cheese spread looks more like the goo that pops out of a cyst. else except for the cyst goo this a real good meal.

Just found this channel. You have a new subscriber great content thank you
I absolutely adore these productions! Mainly because I am constantly hungry but I do love MRE’s. If you could pick just one to have if nothing else was available- what would it be?
Right off the bat I'd pick either the Sloppy Joe or Seafood Chowder (Cold Weather). I will be putting some kind of a compilation and ranking of MREs at some point as I get more content and go through more MRE cases. TFW
I’m from Iowa myself and Maid-Rites is something I wish was around more in the Des Moines area. Great video man!
Thank you for your service!! Great video and awesome MRE...just a heads up for anyone thats going to try an MRE...put whatever pouches in the heater bag first and then add the water..keeps you from burning yourself ....
Hi from the UK, i've never had a sloppy joe, never had a complete mre either, it all looks delicious, thanks for the video 👍
i served 15 years in canadian military i love to hear stories from other soilders

Maid-Rite is an Iowa chain here. Yep, name of food and restaurant that invented them. It's loose meat. Usually beef or lean beef, mustard, pickle and sometimes diced onion. Sloppy Joe you add ketchup to the beef to make a sauce for it. Usually cheese too. Both are good. Maid-Rite restaurants all over Iowa. I like both equally. Maid-Rites have some of the best fries available. I usually make 2 sloppy joe's per maid rite at home. I enjoy the sauce and cheese. If you travel Hwy 80 you will see Maid-Rite resturants all along the trans America hwy.
It used to come with tortillas and cheese spread. My favorite MRE! I still recreate them occasionally.
Holy cow!! When I was growing up… When I was about 16 in like year 1998 I got out of foster care and living with my dad- anyhow he was a military fanatic (I think was the best way to put it) he bought military merchandise and MREs fairly often. Well, MREs when/ if they were sold out at the location.
But anyway, often my meal, he gave me was a mre but never was there a sloppy Joe one! Omg 😱
I missed out!
Well, I really never enjoyed them but was perfectly fresh food… But would have been something still to have eaten a sloppy Joe one! I love sloppy joes!… Just not a fan of how messy a good eats they are 😅
This was really a good one, for sure, William. TFW!

love watching the videos and listening to your stories of being in the military , the armour in your photos looks like it may be an M113 APC mounting a Browning .50 cal machine gun ( Ma Duce )

Such a good looking ration this one. That cheese almost looks like overspill from the main meal rather than cheese. Great review.
Love the video keep it up

I'm a fan of the stories and the prayer, I used to be in the Army and I think everyone in the military does shenanigans at some point 😂

Cedar Rapids.....the big city to us Marion residents. Used to take the bus to get downtown C.R. and go the the Army Surplus store. That was over 50 years ago....good grief! TFW, Jeremy
@MeAncient The Army Surplus store is now in Marion just befpre the square coming from Cedar Rapids.

When I was a young kid in Iowa my grandmother worked at a Maid-Rite. I have good memories of my dad coming home on his lunch break and taking me up to see grandma at work and get a Maid-Rite for lunch.
That's cool. Great memories.....TFW!
Hoping to get this one soon, looks good to me
When talking about heating rations Back In The Day, you forgot to mention the C-ration stove; a hexamine tablet in a can with holes punched around the bottom with a John Wayne opener! Semper Fi, Ye Olde Salt!!
It's also fun to see how many MRE components were carried straight over from the C-rations (officially, MCI or Meal, Combat, Individual)
I had a good friend who was a high ranking NCO at the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. He said he was bored that day and decided to go out on a patrol. He never forgave himself for not being there. His name was James T Adams. Jim passed away 2 years ago in the Philippines.
Live your videos.
We lost 240 that day. I'm sorry for your friend's passing. TFW
I was in BCT at Ft. Leonard Wood Mo. back in late 2013 and ate MREs quite often, my favorite one was Cheese tortellini. And loved the Jalapeño Cheese Spread. We bartered for that shit. 🤣 and I can assure you. There is something funky with that cheese spread you just squeezed on that tray. Lol ooof.
I think some other commenters were right....the meal was from 2010, not 2020. The cheese sure tasted 'sharp.' TFW, Cory
When I was in the USAF, we would use our -60's to heat our MRE's. A -60 was a support equipment that we used to start our F-4's. It provided us with external electrical power. It had a jet engine in it, and we would heat our MRE's over the exhaust.
I'll bet the time for warm chow was minimal. TFW, John.
Sloppy Joe was my absolute favorite when I was in.
I subbed instantly when I say yall pray.
Thank You for Your Service 🎗
Another great video. I’m thinking instead of a 2020 ration, I think it’s a 2010 due to the ration heater in its own package. Thanks for sharing as always!!!
Definitely 2010 production.
Good call!
Hes right. The sloppy Joe was menu item number 17 in 2010. It was replaced the next year by a pork patty in that menu position and I don’t believe sloppy Joe has returned in any year since. Another telltale sign that it’s an older MRE is the fact that matches were included and the small bottle of hot sauce instead of a packet.
looks good.
It certainly was.....TFW
One thing that always surprised me was how good a lot of MREs could be. I joined the Marines in 2017 as an 03 so I’ve definitely eaten my fair share of them and I’ve noticed most aren’t too bad especially with the hot sauce and pepper flakes you get in some of the accessory packs.
Jacob, they are not too bad at all. I never had any trouble eating the first generation MREs back in my day, even though the pork & hamburger patties were freeze dried and we had to reconstitute them. Semper Fi and TFW!
Love the videos. As someone who came up in the restaurant business w/the old adage "hot food hot, cold food cold", though, you GOTTA eat the sloppy joes 1st before they cool off. :)
That would have been the way to go, for sure. TFW, Mike!
Me Ancient, keep up the content. I enjoy it. 😀
Glad you enjoy it! More to come, Phillip. TFW

It's my lunchtime!
I hope it was a good lunch. TFW
So happy to see this notification. Hope all is good MeAncient.
Going very well, my friend. TFW and for being the first comment!
God, this makes me feel old. I remember when we got cereal bars, "tin" cans with mystery meat, and a single piece of Chiclets gum, and our flight rations (think of "MRE'S for aircrew") might have expiration dates that were several years prior (anyone else remember canned water?). Can I interest anyone in a Rice Krispy cereal bar that expired in 1967?
P.S. And EVERY meal got a P38... I think I still have a few dozen floating around.
Canned water. I've seen cases of it at auctions here in the South. Old military surplus items. I don't remember Rice Krispy Cereal Bars from the 60s. My family was probably unable to afford that kind of luxury, although my Mom did make them in a pan. They never reached an expiration date with 4 kids in the house.......TFW,
