What I don’t like about this is how all of this is in plastic packages. It’s really bad for the planet. Plastic doesn’t break down easily. We create so much waste. If you were to get your vegetables and fruits etc at the outdoor markets they don’t come wrapped up in plastic . At least when I’d go they weren’t. Unfortunately at da farmers market here in Hawaii a lot of stuff comes in plastic bags. Can be hard to find stuff loose at times. What I do is remove items from bags and hand bag back. Coconut milk oat milk hemp milk almond milk are good. Country rock plant based is a excellent brand of butter. How much fe Ackee ? A $10 they sell em for in Brooklyn. I make my own esco or pick a pepa sauce too. I’m just like mommy no one caa cut up my onion or skellion. MAKE SURE TO BUY LOCAL PRODUCE. Woulda deh down a coronation market a do my thing cause me love the food natural from the earth and almost untouched. We spend 1000 usa on grocery per month,that his alot of grocery,my three grand children eats around the clock and different meals Am diabetic so my meals are often different from there meals and eating healthy is very important 👌,especially with kids,since the pandemic food has gotten very expensive The nicer places,everthing cost more,and I can't drive that far like that anymore,like to the farmers market.

I agree, here in the US not much choice, but when I am in JA buy my meat, fruit and vegetable from the market (cheaper and better quality) all the other stuff from the supermarket. As for the pre-cut items sometimes you find a few pieces that have either dried out or spoiled so one has to be careful and I would recommend d that if the entire packaged is not used, to freeze the reminder as it spoils quickly after opening. BTW, Arrowroot can be used to make porridge or used as a thickener
While I wouldn't purchase any form of greens chopped up; persons who do buy them are not necessarily lazy. You would be surprised to know how full some parents plate are, especially those with children with special needs.

If u do go get the daiya cheddar blend, it mozzarella and cheddar mixed. I don't know if they sell but its good with a little Italian season mixed in. Also , daiya mild or medium cheddar cheese 🧀 block makes great Mac and cheese ..All dairy free..Enjoy

What , they sell Daiya there. Shocked. Daiyas okay, but I do like their chocolate cheesecake I can recommend “ Follow Your Heart “ the Provolone one. Don’t get the mozzarella one from them it’s terrible. Chao cheese the white one is good. Violife Smoked Provolone. And miyokos. Think they also had a smoked mozzarella that was really good. I bought coconut condensed milk. Think it may be da same brand as what I bought in US. Problem with it is almost all sugar unless it’s organic is GMO. Sorry to have to keep saying what’s wrong with some items but Earth balance has canola oil and most canola is also GMO. And if it’s organic you still need to try avoid it. It’s very bad for you. It’s in almost everything even pet food. They use it a lot because it’s cheap. I use to buy Almond Breeze before Silk came out. I use to like their chocolate one until 8 tried silks dark chocolate Almond milk it’s so much better. Though the variety isn't as wide there and they do not open on a Sunday, they package certain items in smaller amounts than Fresh Foods. Also bulk rice and bulk sugar flour aren't sold in Fresh Foods. Many Jamaicans have been living a meat free , fish only, reduced meat intake, plant based lifestyle for decades. Religious reasons see SDA, Rastas etc, preference or even financial (animal protein is expensive). Many of the locally made products you would get at farmers markets certain expos and then contact the maker to get a delovery etc. Debz from the ice cream brand is my friend's sister. Love to see more of them appering on the shelves of supermarkets. As for pre made cooked dishes Lee's has been doing that for years. Sunday's the cooked rice and peas is quickly scooped up by the shopping after church crowd. The bakery is also good, just like the bakery at Super Valu Mannings Hill Road. The transferred a couple of the bakers too. Super Valu launched a loyalty card this June, make sure you and your mom get one, Rochelin. They sell lunch/meals by the weight too just like Loshusan Barbican. It took years to build because the owners refused to take a loan to build it. They used the monies from their other businesses to build Super Value Town Centre. They were particularly cognizant of Super Plus' rapid expansion and then closure of many of the supermarkets, some years ago. (Mr. Fong, one the owners told me years ago, before he passed.)

Hi Roch. Rule of thumb for me; too many ingredients equal overly processed and if I cannot pronoun the ingredient name it stays on the shelf. Also the precut veggies and fruits loses their nutrient if not consume within a timely manner. I love the organic food on your cousin farm. Keep it local as much as possible.

We buy all our meat from a custom butcher shop,the meat is cut up before your eyes,its fresher and better grass fed
It taste so much better than the prepackaged grocery store and they give free big bones with meat on there for soups

It took years to build because the owners refused to take a loan to build it. They used the monies from their other businesses to build Super Value Town Centre. They were particularly cognizant of Super Plus' rapid expansion and then closure of many of the supermarkets, some years ago. (Mr. Fong, one the owners told me years ago, before he passed.)
Not only lazy people, like I've had a stroke so things like that(pre cut) are life changing positively for me. I wish had that right now... Love your channel, you & mummy take care!

First time commenting... really enjoyed this cuz i am always saying Jamaica is limited with vegan, non-dairy and non- gluten stuff.
I am really enjoying your take on how you are introducing Jamaica to everyone it is very, nice and refreshing. Also, it is wonderful that you included your mother. I will be watching more of you. It was so funny that you guys had not seen cut up vegetables you obviously haven't been to America that it the only way most people will ever cook. But I agree with your mother I would rather do it myself because the vegetables are usually not that fresh and you don't know who cut them. But I saw things in Jamaica that I have never seen here in America!! Even though it would be more than too expensive for me to come to Jamaica I would love to come to Jamaica and share the experience with my entire family. Until then I will enjoy Jamaica through your you and your wonderful videos. So, thank you for giving me the vacation that I otherwise would not be able to afford.

I mean I saw everything else but the packaged fried plantain really have me away. Like that’s ingenious. Expensive but I have to give the credit where it is due. I like how that supermarket is. I am shocked that the vegan burgers are made in Jamaica. That’s awesome. Vegetable corn beef? 🧐 They clearly stand out. The escoveith sauce is the first for me too.
It's good that u look at the expiration date . You would be surprised by these grocery stores not rotating their products ...Especially , in the US
Watching again and once again i must say that despite you hear about how difficult life is in Jamaica the Grocery shelves offer a significant difference to what is available in Trinidad and Tobago. For one there are a lot of home produce and a far wider variety. The best Supermarket in Trinidad and Tobago cannot compare
Listen darling a the Chinese and Indians who are doing these package stuff I wouldn't buy any prepared food stuff like your mum says think hygiene think preservatives and stick to the time and tested way of DIY doing it yourself that way you know it is clean and only you germs is on it convenience is not necessarily best

Hi Roch. Rule of thumb for me; too many ingredients equal overly processed and if I cannot pronoun the ingredient name it stays on the shelf. Also the precut veggies and fruits loses their nutrient if not consume within a timely manner. I love the organic food on your cousin farm. Keep it local as much as possible.
