I have been cooking for close to 60 yrs. Here lately I have just lost interest and I don't know why--- but-- watching your videos with your great enthusiasm sparks life back in my love of cooking- thank you so much. My husband enjoys any of the cakes or cookies- they've been a big hit with grandkids also.
For anyone that doesn't have cake flour or doesn't want to buy it, an easy sub is all-purpose flour with corn starch. Take one cup of all-purpose flour, remove 2T of it and replace it with 2T cornstarch. So for this recipe, remove 5T flour and replace with 5T corn starch. Do not forget to whisk it together well. For grams: 1 cup sifted cake flour (100 grams) can be substituted with plus 2 tablespoons (15 grams) cornstarch.
For the Marble Cake: ▢2¾ cups cake flour (330g) ▢2 tsp baking powder ▢½ tsp kosher salt ▢1 cup unsalted butter room temperature (227g) ▢1¾ cups granulated sugar (350g) ▢4 large eggs room temperature ▢1¼ cup whole buttermilk room temperature and divided (300mL) ▢1 tbsp vanilla extract ▢4 ounces dark or semi-sweet chocolate chopped (113g)
A lot of cooking channels do cakes that are really hard and complicated that I would never try to make, but John's are so easy and delicious that I make them all the time! Thanks John!
In response to the question you asked in a previous video, I do miss the longer intro. At first I loved this short one because we got to the recipe quicker but as a college student, I got emotionally attached to the longer version. It reminds me of home and is very comforting. If you decide to bring the longer intro back, I'd be so down for it, if not, carry on John I'll still be here
Love the way you hang your copper pots and pans. I am redoing my kitchen. I put red brick for the back splash and doing blue, white and copper pieces in my kitchen. Also I have a large wide kitchen window that is recessed and am putting in glass shelves to have lil pits of herbs, flowers etc on window shelves. So excited. I absolutely love your new home and your trees and gardens and animals. Thank you for making me smile when I watch your channel. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I made this cake in January for my brother's birthday. It was his request to make a marble cake. This cake was amazing. I think i only 1 piece. My brother ate the whole lot😅. We did reduce the amount of frosting though. But dont skip it altogether. Thanks John for sharing
Hi John, I made this cake for my daughters class Christmas party. Just made few changes. Prepared as a sheet cake and drizzled with melted chocolate with some sprinkles on top and it was huge hit. Just wanted to give credit to you and big thanks for this recipe.
Made this today. The only thing I did different was adding a tablespoon of coffee and mixing it well with the chocolate chips melted. Just to bring out the chocolate flavor a little more. Came out excellent
So my six year old son absolutely LOVES zebras. Like, where other children pretend to be lions or bears or T-Rexes, he pretends to be a zebra and even tries to imitate their call. I'm gonna bake this cake and call it a zebra cake and he's gonna love it.
After watching so much Preppy Kitchen, I have acquired a new hobby! I love to bake and cook. My favorite recipe to make is your Tiramisu. It's a symphony of flavors and it's delicious!
I don't normally comment on videos, but I decided to take a shot at baking a cake for my Wife for her birthday, which shes the baker and im the cook of our household. Following your video and recipe it turned out amazing!! The bake on the cake was perfect and the only thing was I had to add quite a bit more heavy whipping cream to get a better consistency. Other than that, thank you!!
Did you use four sticks of butter? I noticed he uses four sticks on the video. However, it shows 1 cup on the list of ingredients? Wouldn’t that be two sticks of butter?
as soon as I got an email account i signed into to youtube and subscribed to preppy kitchen. This channel has genuinely good recipes and each video has a fun vibe. Watching the recipe progress and is not only aesthetically beautiful but also informative. I have learnt so much about baking from this channel.
Gotta love these recipes he puts out, I’ve made my dad countless oatmeal raisin cookies, and his new personal favorite the carrot cake from here as he’s requested it this coming Sunday for his birthday. Every time there’s a new recipe I have to check it out. Now if I could only figure out a way to make the cinnamon rolls without a warming drawer since my oven won’t go below 170 degrees.
Making the frosting is a bit difficult. Other than that after trying various other recipes, the cake turned out to be soft and delicious. This recipe is the best one so far.
Love your videos! I have noticed the USA don't divide the batter into 3 like we do in Australia for a marble cake. We add a 3rd coloured with pink food colouring and sometimes flavoured with strawberry essence.
FOR ME YOUR VIDEO IS THEBEST TO WATCH AND ALL THE RECIPES OF YUR CAKE IS PERFECT AND I REALLY LOVE IT AND REALLY APPRECIATED IT SO MUCH AND I RELLY ' LOVE ALL THE CAKES YOU BAKE AND I LEARNED A LOT FROM YOUR VICEO GOD BLESS......
In the UK we call it, self raising flour. I made 2 batters for my son's marble cake. One plain vanilla and one with cocoa powder. I did it the hard way. I piped the batters in circles in the tin. Alternating between batters. My filling was chocolate ganache.
Believe it or not I lined the bottom of a pan with parchment paper and made a layered lemon dessert. Someway, somehow, the parchment paper ended up in the middle of the dessert? Can't wait to make this marble cake!
You can use all purpose flour, just replace one tbsp of the flour for one tbsp of cornstarch, for every cup of flour. This would simulate cake flour. Just be careful not to over-mix since there is still a lot more protein content than actual cake flour. Hope your cake turns out well😊
I took a cake decorating class years ago where the instructor tied wet flour sack towels around the cake pans when baking which worked keeping the cakes from rising in the middle.

I recommend buying cake flour because it makes cakes more fluffy

I love that ploop sound... oh man i fell in love with your smile......
Thank you for all your great recipes. I have a 9" springform baking pan; can I use that and cut the cake in half or into thirds?
To marbilize is not a verb. Marbilized is not an adjective.
To marble IS a verb. Marbled is an adjective.
Wow! That looks sooooooooooo good!!!! I need it in my mouth. Trying this for sure!!!!!!

It’s not self raising flour he is using as it does not have added raising agents but just plain flour with a lower protein content
Cake looks delicious, but I love when you make three layers!!!! I just loved how they looked! 🤗
ok, who eats all your divine creations??? I am available for tasting, LOL
Good job John. I didnt think any one liked the smell of vanilla more then me... but you have me beat lol.

Woah first :D love ur videos always love trying the recipes!
I love this marble cake. So beautiful! The icing!!!!!However, there is no cake flour available where I live. What can I use as an alternative?
You should find a recipe on his website or channel or online
It’s all purpose flour + corn starch (maïzena) but I can’t remember the exact ratio
You can use all purpose flour, just replace one tbsp of the flour for one tbsp of cornstarch, for every cup of flour. This would simulate cake flour. Just be careful not to over-mix since there is still a lot more protein content than actual cake flour. Hope your cake turns out well😊
