My 92 y/o mom and I switched to Tim Horton’s instant coffee a few years ago and I don’t see us ever going back to brewed coffee again. I used to think seriously about adding an Aeropress to my bush-crafting kit but I never did and now I don’t need to. Still it’s interesting to see it come up in videos. Norwegian Explorer also uses an aeropress, although he did say he sometimes uses instant coffee on some camping trips.
I haven’t been reading fiction for quite some time now. Like many who have diabetes ,my eyesight has suffered. Ido hope your books do well .
Thanks for that. I'm with you on the eyesight. Maculopathy and retinopathy do not make for an easy life, and you have my sympathy. I have to admit, I just don't bother with instant at all now. I used to quite like some - but as a diabetic I am really unhappy about the amount of processed food we're presented with every day, and I am keen to keep to minimal processing wherever possible. To be honest, though, it's also the case that I just haven't found any instant coffee that tastes, to me, like coffee. Just now it's the Aeropress, and more often the OutIn. Both produce lovely coffee, the Aeropress is more like a Tim Horton coffee (if you use a good robusta coffee bean) whereas the OutIn makes for a delicious espresso.
I've known of Writerley Witterings around 5 years now Michael and I remember you sitting at a garden table reviewing this product like you say around 4 years ago, I didn't buy the mini version but did buy the standard sized version which sits in my coffee station basket in the kitchen and is used most days, my choice of coffee is Illy Colombian strength 7 and also Italian strength 4, I keep saying I will buy a small mill and buy my beans for a fresher tasting coffee but just another job and something else to clutter up my small kitchen, but the idea appeals
I still fancy a small hand mill. I used to have one, but God knows where that went. I suspect my wife "tidied" things up one day! One day I'll get another!
I’ve used the standard size Aeropress for years, what’s worked for me is medium dark roast, 22 grams ground slightly coarser than drip coffee, agitate for 30 seconds, let sit for another 30, then press very slowly.
Oh, water slightly below boiling, about 88-90c.
Thanks for that, Joe. Hmm - I'll have to look at exactly what weight of coffee I am putting into mine. I tend to go by two heaped teaspoons, just to show how disorganised I am! Only one minute in the water? I think I put mine in for nearer 2-3 minutes. Interesting!
That's one of those rules I've heard of, but from my own experience, it doesn't seem to make any difference in flavour when I try boiling water cw 95 or 90 degrees.
The AeroPress reusable filter is handy but you'll need to brew inverted.
I tend to brew inverted, and then turn it over to push the coffee out - although people keep telling me that's dangerous!
