      You see the mortar lines because the blocks and mortar absorb water at different rates so one part dries out quicker (meaning it changes colour at a different rate)

    Hiya buddy. If I was a plasterer I would hate to do dash work. It's so damn messy. However, looks looks like you've definitely go the hang of this technique. It's a bit difficult to see with the wide angle but it looks like you're getting a good even and uniform finish. ATB matey, Des

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  7 років тому

      Yes mate this wall turned out well I find the mix is a big must for wet dash must be perfect and the same colour the whole way best to over mix in some cases so that it wont look discoloured mind you the backing coats can cause dis colour too if they are not very even or the likes of stone can sometimes be a little varied in places as some ares are deeper with the under coats. but yes it is messy takes longer to clean than to dash :)

    BTW. Why do people ask for walls to be dashed? What are the benefits?

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  7 років тому

      In this case it is just to match the house as it was done in a dash and painted , but if not this wall would just be bock the wet dash can protect it keep it water proof. On a house it will do the same help protect the brick block or stone as well as water tight a dry home is a warm one. all this being said all exterior plaster will have these or should have these benefits, some people like this finish some hate it I dont mind it but like it best with bands and base/plinth as it looks best that way i think hope this helps :)

It’s blown out in places and you can see big long cracks were the plaster is giving way along the top. Thinking about chipping all the plaster off and having a go. mac plastering it’s brick work that I have all ready scratch coated hit couple of walls today but stuff taking most of the day to take up there is a lot of soil behind the walls which won’t be helping. I coated wall at 9:00 today and by 3:00 you would have thought I had just done it. I even had less water in the mix and more mixing time to see if that made the difference but still the same. Should lime help it set a touch quicker for the wetdash

      Great job again Mac. One request please - when you are creating these videos can you please remember to write in your note pad, tablet or phone a reminder for you to come back and link further, detailed explanatory videos onto the original video? There is sooo much gold in your videos but you will make the enjoyment factor for viewers that much greater if you give them the ability to go directly to the information you have created for them and not risk losing them to the dreaded 'scroll-can't find the info-depart down into other UA-cam rabbit holes' syndrome.
      However, I do appreciate it's difficult to balance youtube camera set-up, creation, editing, posting, commenting AND the actual going out and finding and doing the jobs (plus time with the family). 👍
