    Tbh the droid army was being held back so hard. The argument that droids couldn’t improvise seems odd to me since commando droids could use disguises and have been seen adapting to many situations.
    More importantly any droid demonstrating superior skills or tactics (accidental or not) could be studied and it’s abilities uploaded to the others. A b1 that was a good soldier could be copied onto others and suddenly they would all be competent. Rex says experience beats everything but then the droids can learn what took decades in seconds.
    Edit: also the republic put itself into debt just to keep its army large enough to keep fighting the droid army meanwhile the CIS could easily pump out armies left and right that would always be at full combat readiness while clones grow past their prime in a few years.

      Also as you said before. If one robot could learn new information, you could easily upload that information to all the robots. Shoot, even if the robot get shot. You can just take its memory card and put it in a new one. Saving money, time and resources just by reusing the parts or repairing parts.

    I would argue that droids actually had too much creativity in many cases and even seemed to display far too much emotion for the conditions they were in. They would stop short of the killing blow to gloat, they would flee or break ranks or otherwise hesitate when presented with a daunting challenge or intimidating situation, and they would even question orders or show displays of curiosity and would seek rewards for doing well, even occasionally going so far as to put self interest before strictly completing the mission in some rarer cases.
    To truly become effective, they needed to have only the means to communicate info to their command units, target enemies, and attack until there are no more enemies. The fact that B1s had the autonomy to be confused and question what to do with an enemy or to not place the goal of killing the enemy with rapid efficiency above all else undermined their ultimate combat effectiveness.
    The best ones on the battlefield would have been tactical sociopaths with only a sense for what would cause the enemy as much death and destruction for the longest period possible without eliminating targets that were not meant to be eliminated. The first line deliberately huddling down in a stable position and providing cover for the ones behind them when little forward cover is available. Firing until they are inevitably disabled while using their body to block shots from hitting the droids behind. Many advancing under cover of tightly packed droids until a droid with many explosives was close enough to hurl them at enemy positions in a suicidal charge. Firing more lasers instead of yelling in surprise or trying to block it with an arm. Simply ensuring that an enemy making a deathblow would be adequate opportunity to make their own as trading lives is just cost effective.
    They were too human, too relatable. I enjoyed their goofy banter and antics but I know the better battledroid is one that would not react to the idea of their destruction as long as it was mutual with the enemy. As long as it caused the enemy pain or allowed others to inflict even more. At the end of the day, the republic won not just because of the sith schemes, jedi involvement, or clone enginuity. They won because the droids weren't truly the emotionless monsters they were supposed to be.

    • @pretzelbomb6105

      If I remember correctly, the droids’ unwanted emotions were a side effect of their processors. The army that won the battle of Naboo didn’t have those problems until the navy that lost the battle of Naboo convinced the CIS to give each soldier autonomy.
      This meant that you wouldn’t have to worry about losing an entire army every time a Lucre Hulk went down, but the Trade Federation are merchants and high-end processors are expensive, so they opted for lower quality computers that would get the job done but had the side effect of developing personalities.
      That’s why the higher quality droid models don’t show emotion. Commando droids, gunships, vulture droids, etc, all have high end computers in them. Tactical droids are the exception to this, but the problem for them was software, not hardware, as their programming made a personality unavoidable since they’d not only have to understand the battlefield but also their general in order to effectively aid them.

      @@marcusbordeaux7548 Well that's not entirely possible because a B1 is designed as soldier, they're not just killing machines. They have to also do more menial tasks like carrying objects, maintenance, etc. They also had other functions than fighting om the ground like piloting and small scale tactical decisions. B2s on the other hand are purely battle droids, they go in, they fight then they deactivate when it's over until the next battle.
      B1s just have far more to do so their cheap processors gets overloaded. They still do a fine job though, for their price of course. 1800 credits for a whole soldier is quite a small amount.

      well if you look at numbers the droids probably outnumbered the clones about 300-400 to one or more and an average clone could in their time serving the republic take out on average somewhere around 200-250 droids then the droids would probably win in a battle where the droids have a few tactical droids or super tactical droids. with Jedi being able to take out hundreds if not thousands of droids there would be a higher chance of the clones defeating the droids. if we assume that b1 droids make up about 60% of the droid army and b2 super battle droids make up about 30% and commando droids make up about 10% (this is the most mass produced droids in the cis army and this is an approximation.) then each clone would have to fight about 240 b1 droids, 120 b2 super battle droids and, 40 commando droids. the clones wouldn't win without the Jedi or at least a few AT-TE walkers or some other walkers. the droid army has no real counter to AT-TE walkers so this is a massive problem for the droids. If you use every droid vehicle that got to the mass production phase and every clone vehicle that got to the mass production phase you will notice the droid army not doing as well as you would expect based on their numbers due to not having any real counter to AT-TE walkers. so you can't just say the droid army was being kept from winning by palatine and would have won if it weren't for him because they would most likely still have lost.

I mean, there's imperial cells still out there, and we did see some CIS cells still surviving with hundreds of droids during the Empire, so I don't see a reason why a few cells, among thousands of ships, across hundreds of planets with factories, how some mistake could use up some few resources and make a group of droids, or finding a group of them still active.
    (Yes, palpatine had an order which shut down the droid army, but we still saw how a super-tactical droid thought it was a trick by the republic, and denied it, so who's to say that the less intelligent and more prideful tactical droids didn't do so as well? However theoretically the interim chill-down wouldn't occur, since there would be no heavy Geonosis loses requiring the entire restructuring of clone special operations. The impression in the books is that Omega was selected as one of the first restructured squads due to the fact they were all the last man standing. If you assume that rather than all 4 squads getting destroyed at Geonosis maybe one did, then the other 3 through standard commando missions and inexperience, Omega would still be the logical makeup. You also have the empty time from the original SO brigade cryo chilldown to fill to keep the entire timeline clean. Same touching survivors coming together to create a new family story, no messing with timelines, explains away the plot hole of commandos being the most pro-Jedi clone faction since there was no 50% initial casualty rate, and simply adds one or two extra missions to the experience pool that would allow each Omega member to be given the same opening treatment Darman and Theta squad were where you truly felt Darman's loss. Not to mention, each droid is unique in what it can do. For example, b1s are thin, easy to kill , and expendable. They shoot center mass, no rapid fire. Super battle droids can fly shoot bombs and shoot rapid fire. Their gun is a part of them, so they'll never drop it and are durable and expendable. Droidekas are fast can roll which allows them to protect themselves before being ready to fight they're durable have a shield so blaster shots are worthless on them, they can take a few lightsaber hits and are able to shoot rapid fire. You get the picture. In my opinion, the droid army is the best army ever in Star Wars history. You really never do think about how much more efficient having a droid army on a battleship is. They probably saved so much space not needing crew quarters, med bays, cafeterias and kitchens, places to store food and water, etc. that on a ship of the same size but crewed by living people, you could put like twice as many guns and ammo and a bunch more hangers. Especially since they had compact, pilotless/droid fighters it was way easier to store a lot of them in one spot. Also their landing craft was more efficient as droids can fold up way better than a person (like the droids on the racks in MTTs or those squid ships that attacked kamino). A ship of that same size deploying clones would only hold like 5 if they have to stand as opposed to like 12 folded up droids

  • @firstcynic92
    @firstcynic92 5 років тому +14

    7:45 There droid army DOES have logistics to worry about.
    Rest: They need space when they aren't active. Also, they need down time for routine maintenance.
    Food: They need power.
    Medical attention: Both routine maintenance and repair of battle damage are required.
    They also (like Republic forces) have weapon logistics. Supply of weapons and ammunition and their maintenance and storage.
    If the commanders ignore maintenance they will soon lose their forces.
    Battle droids have on board power. Such power couldn't be maintained for years of down time, even if you disconnect it from the droid. The same goes for their blasters.
    Overall it comes down to resources. A droid army needs more refined ore and production facilities, and human army needs more biological material. Whichever you have in abundance dictates which army you go with.

      @alexanderchristopher6237 5 років тому +3

      With droids they don't need much space, B1s can just fold up and be stored for long periods of time in some de-moisturized vault that keeps them out of the elements, and keeps them from rusting heavily. If you have an abundance of B1s and don't have enough storage on a planet where there isn't a war going on, then just scrap them or send them off on a transport to a system/planet where there is an ongoing war, and throw them away at the enemy so you don't have to waste your time oiling up hundreds of thousands of B1s.
      Then again, I would assume there are droids capable of lubricating parts and performing maintenance on droids, and they would be much more efficient than an organic being doing all the work.
      Sooo
      Yyyyyeah
      Lots of work, but still I would have to go with a Droid army over an army that's only has 1/20 of the numbers, and are much less expendable and very expensive, not to mention only a single planet produces them so it'd take a long time to move an entire legion worth of new recruits all across the galaxy. And with their lack of experience, they'd probably be less efficient than a droid at first. Also the clone equipment was more expensive than droid equipment, and organic beings obviously require much more maintenance and are rarely as abundant as droids can be. Combat ready humans or aliens that are loyal to your cause are going to be harder to find or recruit. Not many people are willing to die, and if you force them they will revolt. With clones its different, but clones come with many complications and downsides on their own.

  • @reeven1721
    @reeven1721 5 років тому +32

    To sum up:
    PROS
    Droids can be mass produced faster, cheaper and nearly anywhere.
    Droids allow faster, cheaper and easier logistics for deployment, supply and coordination.
    Droids are faster, cheaper and easier to customize for evolving operational conditions through hardware/software adjustments.
    Droids are more durable to battle damage and can withstand environmental conditions biological units cannot.
    Droids do not disobey orders or lose morale.
    CONS
    Droids need dedicated tactical and strategic guidance against situations outside original mission parameters.
    Droids need access to specialized maintenance infrastructure on site during prolonged operations.
    The plot turned the droid army, especially the B1s, into ineffective comic relief. But in a real scenario, even against Jedi and Clone Troopers, the CIS would have creamed the Republic through sheer numbers alone.

    • @adorablecenturion8436
      @adorablecenturion8436 5 років тому +5

      Sheer numbers, being able to change their strategy on a dime and being so expendable they'd never run out of numbers until the lucrehulk or several lucrehulks hovering above the planet were down.
      Or the planet itself would have huge depots with MTTs, vulture droids, hyena bombers, tri fighters, everything you'd need.
      If they lose?
      No problem whatsoever, they're just droids, no true losses.
      Only losses could be the organic generals/admirals that put this all together, but they still have a high chance of escaping and just coming back another day, or to another, likely undefended(because clones weren't anywhere near as common as simple cheap B1s)planet and just turn those planets into a fortress. Enslave the population or imprison them, and start stockpiling droids in places around the planet.
      It's amazing what the Droid army was actually capable of.

    The logistical advantages of a droid army cannot be overstated. Your army only needing ammunition and fuel/power in order to function is insane, starving out a besieged droid fortification would be next to impossible. Additionally, transporting armies is beyond compare, all the cargo space saved from not having to carry food/water and medical supplies can be put towards additional ammunition or even more droids, which have the useful feature of being able to be switched off and stuffed in crates when not needed. Even dealing with causalities droids have the edge, damaged or disabled droids can be repaired or reassembled and be functional again in a matter of hours whereas organic troops need days, weeks or months to recover from injuries.

    I think that the best army would be droid soldiers but living officers (no tactical droids etc). With every droid unit being lead by a living being, it would keep all the advantages of a droid army mentioned in the video, but with better small-scale tactics and imagination

    Try running, nonstop, for 36 hours straight, without food, water, or any support of any kind, through alien terrain, with heavy armor. Clones would have to break at some point for a rest. A B1 could leg it twice the distance without stopping. Imagine that…

    Here's an idea - why didn't the Rebel Alliance, New Republic, or Resistance use battle droids to compensate for their smaller numbers against the Empire or First Order?

      while the droids in the mid and long-run were actually a lot cheaper to make than clones or just recruiting regular soldiers in the short-term there is a huge huge upstart cost.which the rebellion didn't have the credits for because they were too busy making sure the small numbers they did have survived and that's why they didn't use droids

    I can imagine how cool would be a game in which u create ur own factories and droids and u conquer the galaxy. From a squad of droids to armies with tanks, bombers and capital ships.

      Imagine being a group of generals that arrived on a poorly defended planet with a couple of lucrehulks and various trade federation ships, within a matter of weeks you'd overwhelm the local defense force, absolutely slaughter their orbital defenses, and then you get to work on imprisoning the population, or killing them all, or enslaving them to build your factories, work in your mines, etc.
      Or you could just have droids do all the labor, as B1s do have proper working hands and seeing as how they're robots they surely could move quite a bit of weight.
      So just imprison the civilians, Droid guards and turrets never sleep.
      Take all of their mines, take their resources and build droid factories. Mass produce droids, tanks, droid spacecraft and stockpile them.
      Export droids to other CIS forces that could use more, have other CIS planets send resources to you if need be. Once you run out of resources, if you somehow manage to..Who cares lmao mission accomplished, you could just send out armies of droids to take over other planets, and gather more resources for your main "factory planet" and maybe stop producing droids and not waste resources once you've got tens of billions. That'd probably be enough to conquer any planet.

      There is pretty much a game, or at least a mod for a game where you can do this. Its an old RTS game, Star Wars: Empire at War. When you get the "Forces of Corruption" DLC you can install mods for it and the specific one I'm talking about if Republic at War. It's amazing and you can play as droids, it's pretty fun because you can take full advantage of the huge arsenal that the CIS and Republic have, and B1s can be absolutely terrifying. Dirt cheap, they come in large numbers, and you can make neverending hordes of them.

    100 to 1 odds just means each Clone only has to destroy 100 droids. With the help of the Jedi, it's not wholly impossible. And some Clones were known for destroying many more than that, all on their own over the course of the War.
    Rex has claimed to have blasted, "Thousands, maybe even tens of thousands." himself.

    If B1's recibed the proper programming and better bodies with good armor like the Commando droids they can be some of the deadliest of The C.I.S.
