I've tried to make fried dumplings so many times - Always failed!
But cause this recipe, I was so proud to serve my pretty little dumplings to my husband.. It must of been the milk and sugar cause usually I use water. Thanks for your channel!!!!! After years of using UA-cam, you are my first and only subscription.

i loved this I'm West Indian - St. Kitts you say fried dumplings we say johnny cakes - all the same beautiful. my mom made these on Sunday mornings with mackerel or saltfish or even Friday nights with fried chicken backs. She died 2 years ago just watching you make these brought memories back of being in the kitchen with her.

It really surprised me to read some of these comments . first , if your really a jamaican , you would know that sugar and milk can and most ppl used them in fried dumplings ; milk is put for the soft and tenderness of the finishing product , some times if you don't really see the preparation of it , it's kinda hard to taste the distinctive flavours that puts into it , but those are the few ingredients combine to really remind you why you love eating festival and Fried dumplings .

Johnny Cakes are awesome. My Aunt and Grandma would make these as a kid in the islands when i was little and i'd make them disappear as fast as they could make up a batch. These things when made can last a few days just warm them up in the microwave. Thats if they ever get to ever last that long uneaten. Johnny Cakes with Saltfish, Corn Beef, man that brings back my youth.

I'm not sure but most Jamaicans I know don't put sugar... the only time someone put sugar was my Ghanian friend and they call it bake not dumplings. With sugar it tasted ohhkay but without sugar is the best!! and with some saltfish. Yum!!

Actually, using milk and butter ( which she did not use) is the best way to guarantee a nice crunchy exterior and a soft, light, center. I am Jamaican, but most Jamaicans do not use these 2 ingredients, which results in a tougher, more dense dumplin. Granted, this can also be the result of over kneading the dough. I never knew the difference until I had fried dumplin made with milk and butter. Now, I won't have them any other way.

Made some these again this morning using your recipe. But just adding by experiment a bit by adding some Nutmeg, Mace & Cardamon since i have a lot and don't get to use them up often. It really adds a nice savory flavor to them and something you can experiment with at your discretion.

I find the flour tastes so much different that what I am used to. I don't know if it's just the brand of flour. Do you use a particular brand?
