@@itsYoung - Tis the sheer truth sire
@@stevewillows5811 HAHAHAH ur comment was rly funny
“Just an average student” but gets 5 on AP tests😲
pretend u didn’t hear that 🤭 or wait a minute...
Ngl that's pretty average for bay area ppl I live In Cupertino and for some reason everyone gets straight as
@@violetb.5772 finally someone that noticedd that BAY AREA IS SO COMPETITIVE
@@itsYoung it is so hard here! Have fun at Purdue, I got accepted there too for CS back in 2015
Dang Ik it’s hard 😬 have any tips for purdue? Thanks!
I thought you said you were average wtf
average asian 😔
pretty average to me
itsYoung lmao yeah I got a 35 on the ACT And my mom didn’t even blink lop
@@ryanduan5790 yea man my mom expected me to get 5s on all my ap tests and I did so OOP
itsYoung that’s crazy ha it’s still very impressive
Ppl need to chill 😂 he's comparing himself with other freaking crazy smart asains and it's so relatable to feel average among them 😫
Omg thank u for saying this yess
You’re not average, it’s just that the college admission process is incredibly flawed and uses race as a way to decide who gets admitted from a pool of equally competent students. Asians, especially Asians in STEM, are basically thrown up in a lottery at top-level schools.
Ik man I was kinda just using that as a title
he's average in cs for sure
these asians be calling themselves average XD
haha
It’s rare for me to hear out-of-staters actually want to apply to TX schools that aren’t UT Austin or Rice so I was shocked when u mentioned A&M😳
got rejected from UT austin for CS tho #bigsad :(((((
itsYoung honestly I wouldn’t feel bad if I were you though. UT is known for mostly accepting in state people and CS is their most competitive major too. Purdue is a great school don’t feel bad :)
@@maya-th2bu i knowww :) purdue is great! and I didn't expect to get into UT. SO are u going to college too?
@@maya-th2bu ikkk thanks and i didn't expect to get into UT. U going to college too?
itsYoung no not yet- I’m literally a junior😅 I just like watching college reaction videos. When the time comes I want to apply to Purdue though I like it- maybe I’ll see you there in a few years lol!
Hold on hold on... average in the Bay Area is different than average in the rest of the country hahaha. Either way, congratulations on all the acceptances that came through! Loved how efficient this video was hahaha
Yup! Thanks !!!
love how Penn State is his safety, but that is my target school.
haha issok its a great school and fun ass school have fun if u go there
It does have like a 70% acceptance rate so I bet you’ll get in ! You got it
Hey. Did you get into PENN? if you did congrats, that’s my target school also and I am in the HS class of 2022
ok, i'm not even here to talk about colleges or whatever. but like, can we PLEASE discuss how handsome this guy is. like, damn he is gorgeous
THANK U :)
Every time when I hear those "average" students with out standing extracurriculars applying for ivy leagues and to schools hurts my soul (crying in 3.2 gpa)
3.2 is good I’m just hard on myself :’(
what even is considered average
i am average
@lostarz This isn't true, I go to the rival high school (same district, about a mile away, and much much more academically inclined compared to where the guy in the video went) and even in my school he would be far above average. At his school, he's near the very top of his class.
I just realized how dumb I am, considering you are and “average” student.
Nah bro don’t have that kinda mindset
Bruh I feel like you were a really good student way better than me and I thought u should have gotten in those colleges. I'm scared...
dont worry it comes down to major a lot for a lot of schools especially UCs. I chose computer science which is likely the most competitive major rn. I'd advise against it unless ur passionate abt CS. Just show what ur interested in and passionate about through demonstration in ur essays. Explain everything.
“Average student” *gets 33 on ACT* 😭
oopsies
@@itsYoung its fine 😤 I got a 33 too, but did u get a 1530 on sat?
@@kennychuwing2421 ahhaha i didnt take it
yeh weird flex but okay
Awesome job. BTW, your stats were wayyyy above average. So much pressure on students to get straight A’s. My daughter graduated valedictorian, all A’s, All the hardest AP classes, two varsity sports, Marching band, captain of her robotics team,
All state band…35 ACT…Yada, yada, yada. She applied 15 schools, 9 reaches, 4 targets and 2 safety schools. She only got into 1 reach (No scholarship) 3 of her targets (all offered full scholarships or full rides) and both her safety schools which offered full scholarships. After all that work she is going to UW Madison. Yes full ride, it it goes to show, why be so perfect, she ended up at a decent school but not a top school anyway. Moral of the story, have more fun in school and don’t try to be perfect. You still got into an amazing school and will still have a lot of money as an engineer some day.
the fastest reaction video w everything in it i’ve seen. congrats on your school 🙌🏼
Thanks 💯!!!
I love you man. Your stats and extracurriculars are identical to mine and this video took away soooo much stress from me.
Surprised you mentioned A&M, good job! You’re really good for a “average student”
thank youuu :)
everyone in the comment doesn’t understand the asian standards 😭 tysm for making this video tho !! congratulations and best of luck 🥺💕💕
YEAAA IKR ESPECIALLY IN THE BAY AREA and Thank you!!!! im doing super well in college currently. I finished first semester will all A+ and i'm super surprised i did so well. I didn't even need the curves
@@itsYoung YES AAHSJ ! also, omg omg CONGRATULATIONS !! that’s such a big achievement ! so proud of u and i’m sure your parents are too !!! :) 🤍🤍
this just shows that admissions are also luck. your stats were great, but sometimes the results are kind of random. congrats on all of your admissions!!
thank you! means a lot and good luck to everyone applying this year :)
my stats are kind of similar and honestly going to a competitive school does make you feel average but on a national level it’s definitely above average
yea ik that is true :)
A-Average?!?! WhAT dO YoU MEaN 😦5 5’s, a 33, and 800s in subject tests 👏
yet i get rejected from the average UCs
Hi, I like how you put it so the whole process became a guessing game which kept me interested till the end.
Good luck and have a great college time.
thank u :)
I feel bad about your rejections! I hope you have a blast at your college!
thank you so much :)
bruh ig average in bay area is different from average in texas 😭

Dope! I'm going to Purdue next semester for Data Science. See you there.
Ayyy let’s go!! Add me on snap @yxsian or insta @y0ungyu
Sure! I just added you on snap
these stats and extracurriculars and not getting into UT Austin 🤯 i have no hope 😭
i applied for the most competitive major, CS, though. It may be different if you apply to a less competitive major.
It’s much more common to have a 4.0 gpa than a 1600 idk why everyone uses that as the example
yea true. i agree with u on that one
Hey man. Loved the video and wish you a bright future. My question is were able to add all of your 23 schools on Fafsa?
Hey congrats man. Ur definitely a lot smarter than average, but still in the in the in between.
Anyways, what was the result from TAMU? It’s my dream school, I was just wondering if you got any financial aid from them?
I got into the general school first then they let me into the college of engineering a while later. I'm didn't get any aid since my parents' income is too high to qualify, as many bay area families are too. I did get a free TAMU shirt in the mail tho, and that was sick!
also thank u!
@@itsYoung yeah, this was a lot less condescending then people who apply to all the fricken ivies and cry when they don’t get into one of them lol.
But anyways, are you saying the tuition wasn’t that big of a problem for you, if you wanted to go there?
@@sinbadk.7667 yea since my parents have a pretty high income i'd say working in tech in the bay area. TAMU wasn't my top choice tho so i didn't choose it. I actually didn't get into any of my reaches except NYU but thats way too expensive
@@itsYoung ah thanks. Giving me hope lol.
Why is college so freaking expensive, like we don’t have jobs and just graduated, can’t you cut us some slack

boutta start on that college app grind as well, lots of apps are starting to open up already hoping corona didn't ruin me xd
ur all good bro and lmk if u need advice or tips!
Yo I have a question, if you want to take SAT subject tests should you do it based on the field you want to study in.. I’m assuming taking physics and math 2 was because of your computer science major
yea, if you want to go into a stem field, I'd obviosuly recommend taking the math 2 test then do 1 science subject test. Math 2 is what nearly everyone does.
could u do a vid where u read ur essays? or a vid where u just go through your entire UC application and the specifics? i need guidance.
yea for sure, my essays were pretty decent, not the best but sure I'll make a vid like that before august
@@itsYoung bet thx chief
I GOT INTO UCSB SOOOO HAPPY AND CONGRATULATIONS!
congrats !
congrats! thanks
Does your school not have minuses and pluses for grades (A-, B+)?
It does, but on ur transcript the pluses and minuses don’t affect anything so an A+ and A- for example are both 4.0
I recently got accepted into Purdue for CS and I was wondering how your experience has been so far?
Very rigorous. Lots of tough weeder classes but it helps you build very strong fundamentals if u put in the time.
thats my boy right there!!
ya
What an insane reaction hehe
yessir
Hey any insight as to why you picked Purdue over UW-Madison for Computer Science? I got into CS for both schools, however Im leaning more towards UW-Madison since it ranks higher than Purdue for CS on most rankings and is considered to be overall a more prestigious and competitive school.
However, I really am not sure, was wondering if you can give me some insight on your decision and why you picked Purdue. Ik the CS at both schools is pretty close in terms of prestige, competitiveness, etc.
i dont know where u got "ranking" from but if u looked at US news thats bullshit since they rank on irrelevant factors. If you want to rank the schools based of their faculty and research contributions u can go to csrankings.org/#/fromyear/2012/toyear/2022/index?all&us . And overall Purdue's faculty is doing better than Wisconsin this year. If ur rly interested in a field I would see what school has the best faculty for that field. If ur purely just trying to learn a broad CS degree, it doesn't rly matter. I think Purdue was very rigorous and compared to my friends at other schools it was hard, but worth it. Purdue also has a lot of required low level CS courses which are hard but very good for an understanding of low level systems. I think you'll be fine wherever u go. The ppl u surround urself with matter too. If u have more questions u can find me on linkedin too.
@@itsYoung oh wow, thank you i wasnt aware USNews rankings were bad i just assumed it was the norm since its the most popular ranking. Question regarding the faculty, this is probably one of the most important factors for me, by which factors is Purdue's faculty doing better than WIsconsin's this year? I think both Purdue and UW-Madison are rigorous CS degrees, but in wut ways from ur experience at Purdue does the CS degree vary there from other places?
@@itsYoung oh sorry 1 last question, Whats your linkedin?
@@aldrianspalding4157 Purdue has very good security faculty and I’m not sure about the others but u can check online. Also a lot of courses (and always) will be dependent on the professor. If u get a bad one it’ll make ur life horrible and u have to self teach, but that’s bound to happen at any school and is a skill u need when u work in industry (if u do) like I did last summer at amazon. Btw my LinkedIn is www.linkedin.com/in/youngyu19. There are always well known faculty too. Like I was taught by Douglas comer for operating systems, and he’s in the internet hall of fame since he pioneered tunneling for computer networks. I honestly don’t think there’s a wrong choice of where to go, but personally Purdue was very hard and rigorous but it taught me a lot of low level systems and memory knowledge which gave me much better understanding of low level systems underlying high level abstractions and skills to teach myself when things were hard. Are u more interested in research/academia or going into industry?
@@itsYoung yeah computing systems/operating systems r a requirement wherever u go and having a base knowledge in them is crucial, but i find that sort of stuff to be kinda boring. I like programming applications, and am into Machine Learning (since my first language is Python). Im definitely into BOTH, as in i want to pursue research in my undergrad years, but also get industry experience during maybe the summer between each year. I might want to do a masters after to specialize in ML/AI or go straight into the workforce, not so sure as of now.
Anyways thanks for all the insight, i felt like i underrated Purdue a little bit but after doing a bit of research and ur insight i feel more informed now. Still going to wait for the rest of my decisions to come out, waiting on the rest of the UC's & Waitlists but Purdue, UW-Madison r both prolly some of my top choices.
Thanks for ur LinkedIn as well, I may reach out later towards the end of the college app process.
Congrats man
thank u
I feel like California schools are more competitive. If this was at my school in SC, this would place you in the top of the graduating class.
yea california schools are way too competitive about grades and college apps
What made you decide not to attend UCSD or NYU despite being the most competitive schools you got into?
Heyy! May I ask why you chose Purdue over UW Madison? I applied to both schools as well!
hmm they're both great programs i chose purdue bc of the cost. Purdue is great for software engineering as well too which is what I wanted to do.
@@itsYoung Oooh nice, tysm for the response! XD

Young I am about to be a freshman and my dream is to end off high school with lots of ap classes, extra curricular classes, high gpa, and a good SAT score
My dream college is princeton or cornell and major in meteorology to be a storm chaser
Do you think I have a good chance of making that come true?
yea of course, but you have to be more than just a student with good grades and test scores. U need to demonstrate that ur super good at or passioante in ur extracurriculars and if they're related to ur major thats even better. Doing a shit ton of irrelevant crap wont get u anywhere
@@itsYoung thanks for the advice! Right now I am really stressed because I know the grind will be tough. This has been my dream since I was 3 and it is so close. Just knowing that I have been in middle school and all of a sudden it's highschool.. It is like.. Woah my life starts now this is my entire future, you know??
@@trumptrucka just remember that whatever happens this isn't everything even if it feels like it is:). College is really all about what happens after - what you do with the degree and experience! There are many paths that will lead you to happiness, even if it's not the one you envisioned. So please don't beat yourself up if things don't work out, college is a means to an end and not the end itself!! Just my thoughts as a stressed senior 😂.

I'm not too knowledgeable on likelihood of being accepted into universities relative to stats, but from the youtube videos I've watched it seems like you kinda got screwed to be utterly blunt. So this video discouraged me as I count on being similar or slightly better than you holistically not to sound douchy. But damn everything is so competitive nowadays and I'll never be able to go back to 14 years old and redo it all if things go south. One life. :(

I know this vid was a while ago so maybe they changed it, how did you submit rec letters to UCSB, i think they dont accept any anymore
What events did you swim? Did you look into getting recruited for swim?
100 breast 200 breast 200 IM 400 IM but i wasnt crazy fast I was d3 speed, not fast enough for d2 or d1. d3 offers no scholarships of influence on ur application so i chose not to swim since my academics got me into better schools. If you have JNATs or faster you should definitly look into trying to get recruited
Which applications did you use for these? Common or coalition?
Common app for most, UC application, Coalition for a few

do you have any tips for incoming freshman who get B’s and C’s in 8th grade. i’m taking all pre ap next year
its okay i had cs and ds in middle school. Make sure you dont mess around in class and pay attention. Get your work done early and try to finish your homework early, and in class if you have time. I'd also use a written planner to keep track of homework and deadlines. Proacrastinating is a nono. For tests, I always study 2-3 days before unless it's an ez quiz, that way I don't have to procrastinate my studying. Also talk to ur teachers and once ur in junior year try to build a strong relationship with 2 of your teachers since you'll need letters of recommendation from 2 teachers or rarely more. That's all I have rn in my head, u can ask me more if u need more advice.
teachers really like students. who proactively ask questions and help out as well
@@itsYoung thankyou so much. you're the best. congrats on purdue btw
