Every minute of reading Love On The Brain was torture I tried to gaslight myself I was actually just reading a really bad soukoku fic because at least then I would actually love the characters.
I'm really glad to hear you had fun with Love on the Brain! Personally, I took one look at the back, read the first line ("Like an avenging, purple haired Jedi bringing balance to the man-splained universe, Bee Königswasser lives by a simple code: What would Marie Curie do?) And took so much psychic damage that I keeled over in Walmart. But you enjoying it for what it is- a cheesy, over the top romance- reminds me that not everyone feels the same way I do about books and what makes them enjoyable and that's OK! I do wish the author could add a little more variety to her love interests, though- it's kind of hilarious to see two identical men with two different love interests for two different stories.
Just because I am pedantic nerd like that I would not read that book because my answer to the question "What would Marie Curie do?" is spell her full name. It's Skłodowska. Maria Curie-Skłodowska was her name. Curie was her husbands name. I feel like a real life badass woman physicist would know that.
Tender is the Flesh got 5/5 stars of me because of the reality of it. The biggest take I got from this book is that people don't care if something is "wrong" as long as it benefits them. We embellish horrible actions by giving them "nice names". In the book they tackle a lot the subject of words and how much they impact our worldview.
Same, it was pretty on point with what it wanted to bring across. Especially with its unlikable protagonist. To me his ending (killing jasmine) was very much "don't just point out the flaws of a system and then continue partaking in it". Not to lay it too thick with the vegan propaganda but to me that just screams "don't talk about animal welfare just to continue eating them"
Not being Asian and not knowing anything about San Jose, what my bones know still hit the generational trauma and difficult family relationships and coming to terms with how to be happy/how to love/be loved - spot so deeply. i loooove garlic naan and curry!!
Indian food is bombbb
Any Indian dishes you would recommend to an European who's main meal has been pasta and stuff with potatoes lately? 😅 I'm open to trying new stuff, maybe something easy to make at home?
@@iclynnx @Iclynnx A classic fulfilling Indian meal type from where I am is having some vegetable curry or gravy with an Indian bread like chapati/roti/naan or steamed rice!
'Aloo ki sabzi' (potato vegetable/curry), '(insert any vegetable) ki sabzi', 'rajma chawal' (kidney beans and rice), 'dal chawal' (pulses and rice), 'khichdi' (lentils and rice), and 'paneer' (cottage cheese)-related curries are very popular Indian dishes.
You can look up quick, easy, simple recipes on UA-cam or blogs and you'll find it very do-able!
I hope you enjoy them! ❤️
@@iamshraddhakhedkar Thanks for the tips!
yes love this format, especially the cooking (tbh burnt or not the banana bread looked delicious) and you chatting with your friends about the books
Yay! Thank you!
I am 1000% certain that Ali Hazelwood has never taken an anatomy class in her LIFE
WE LOVE FLEXIBLE GYMNAST CHARACTERS WITH WRECK IT RALPH HANDS
Neuroscientist grad student here ; lol 😂 Ali has a neuroscience degree too , so she had to for her degree lol - That being said who knows what grade she got in it lol 🤷🏻♀️.
Not my teens coming back to haunt me in the form of a UA-cam sponsor!!!
Embrace ur inner teen goth!!
Wow. Powder blue looks so good on you!
I love it! It's such a cute color
I have to say, the way you talk about the books you love and connect with has fascinated me so much to the point that I put those books on my To Be Read list. No joke, I love the way you talk about the books you enjoy and how you analyze the parts that you love from it. Love your channel so much :)
Wow, thank you! ❤️❤️
I don't even read very often and yet I watch every single one of Cindy's book videos.
im honored!!
Okay, gonna have to read What My Bones Know. I teared up when you read out some parts. This is gonna be a tough read.
big oof but good luck!!
I think the point of the ending of Tender is the Flesh is to have the reader condemn the main character for being a horrible person, but then have to grapple with the fact that many of his actions are similar to our own if we consume animal products
I am here for Cindy's reading lines of Love on the Brain. I can listen to her read smut books and comments on it all day long haha
i finished a smutty dark romance book this month and will def be dedicating a video to it next month
Sis you look so beautiful in pastel colours!! Incorporate more in ur wardrobe!!!
Will try!! thank u
"You're feeling bad about feeling bad." Yes! I need this book in my life.
When I saw Jack Edward's review of Tender is the flesh I immediately thought of The Promised Neverland too!! I'm so glad it got mentioned here
oooh did jack like this book??
Yes, Tender is the Flesh slander!!
always
I rly enjoyed Tender is the Flesh lmaoo I read it in the Spanish so idk if some things were lost in translation
there may be cultural context im missing too? :0
I also enjoyed it quite a bit!
Yo también lo leí en español y me pareció tan bueno? Tipo siento qué tal vez en inglés no se entendía tanto el contexto de todo y porque el personaje principal actuaba como actúa porque siento que si respondió las preguntas/críticas de Cindy?
I don't think so. I read it in English and I totally disagree with how Cindy interpreted the book. Like he is not a good person and it was so obvious to me!!! So it's not a translation thing.
That sausage-octo really got me! Liked the format- best of all worlds smooched together. Now on to making some late night naan bread!
yummm naan is so good! especially garlic naan!
when you were talking about the guy being "furiously big" at around 5:56 i immediately thought of this tall guy from the tv show marvelous mrs. maisel where he's getting angry but can't have a public outburst cos he looks like an "angry building" asjdsjkfhsl
Everytime I hear about tender is the flesh I think about the promised never land anime lol I’m glad someone finally said it.
not the promised neverland being tender's anime adaptation
Adding What My Bones Know to my tbr immediately because everything about feeling bad about feeling negative emotions hit way too close to home. I need to read that and CRY.
YESSS GO READ
HOT TOPIC SPONSORS PEOPLE??????
EXCUSE ME??!?!?!? HOW IS THIS THE FIRST TIME I'M WITNESSING THIS
also, i LOVE the outfits you were showcasing!! (i think that's the right word, idk, it's small brain time for me)
i had no idea they sponsored ppl until they reached out to me LOL
Righttt?!
We Stan Authors following Booktubers especially when they’re not casing the joint for reviews. I hope you two have an interview in the future. That’d be interesting.
What My Bones Know hits so hard that I had to read it over the course of two weeks even though I typically binge read a book because she kept dropping the mic and I would have to sit with something I learned for a few days before continuing
i had to put the book down so many times just to comprehend what she just wrote before proceeding forward
Finally the straights get a win!
im rlly rooting for them lmao
U know they are such a minority otherwise 🥺
@@withcindy I'm a straight minority. 🤷💞
But I love me some gays.
Hey Cindy!! I wanted to thank you for all you’ve done this year, you’ve done a lot for me and have introduced me to some amazing books! Your such an amazing UA-camr and I hope your account goes far!! :DD
aww thank you so much!!
Cindy, I really love these types of videos. It feels like I'm just hanging out with a friend.
Dude, that's the smoothest transition to an ad that I've ever witnessed. It was like you read my mind since I was absolutely wondering about where you got that amazing cardigan.
it helps im normally dressed frumpy until this video
Love on the Brain is exactly what I needed when I read it- it really is heteronormative crack and it is the perfect book to read when you just want something tropey and cute
Haha i was literally going to say that reminded me of the promised neverland. Also that Shrek show looked hilarious yet inspiring
shrekfest was LITTYYYY
A hot topic sponsorship with cute slaying outfits and book comments while showing so much delicious food! Love it!
PS: HAPPY BDAY!!
thank u fatima!!
@@withcindy OMG it took me a year to find out Cindy hearted my comment and replied to me xD, I'm so effing oblivious.
bruh tender is the flesh made me physically ill. like i thought i was going to puke reading it. it turned me into a vegetarian - i read it in july and haven’t touched meat since i cant even look at it let alone eat it 😩
omg PETA should sponsor this book
Ooo new format unlocked !!! love it 💖✨
Hope you like it!
ugh that sweater is so cute on you and the whole fit bout to make me relive my hot topic days. love the new format we love an innovative queen
Yay! Thank you!
slogging through exams and this really cheered me up :) thanks cindy!
You got this!
I liked the ending of Tender is the flesh. I think it was more powerful this way, then if the MC changed and the author tried to insert a happy end into the world she built in her book. I don't think I would read this book tho - too ..real ?!, let's go with that word, for me.
Loved your video and takes on these books.
This is probably the first hot topic sponsor!! Congrats Cindy!
im honored!!
I really like this concept of a vlogy kind of wrap up. it was so much fun to watch ☺️💞
girl got sponsored by hot topic?! congrats! Loving your reviews as always :))
10:00 OMG he's reading ship of magic! The taste! You gotta read it Cindy if you haven't yet. The trilogy is really good
He's really loving the series!
Unrelated, but have you watched Everything Everywhere All at Once yet Cindy? Every person growing in asian household should watch it at least once in their entire life
I rewatched it over the weekend with my friends! Such a good movie
I love how naturally funny Cindy is and the honest reviews is what makes me want to pick up the books Cindy recommends.
This came in a perfect time!!! Omg I'm so happy to see you cindy💞💗 I'll watch this while eating dinner I'm lucky😭😭
Whatcha eating for dinner?
Loved the Tender is the Flesh segment. I felt like I was hanging out with y’all 🥲
You know you laugh at the size difference, but as a ‘small’ person living in Europe, I feel the walking extra fast just to match the speed of everyone.
Or given I’m lazy, making everyone slow down.
i'm 5'2" so im the same!! i do think i walk fast tho for a short person lol
@@withcindy congratulations you’re taller than someone! I’m 5’1”!
This was a really fun format! Thank you for suffering through needlessly bad books so we don't have to, and finding fun stuff for the TBR stack. You're smart and entertaining to watch no matter what you're reading. 😁
About to eat this up. Thank you Cindy for serving yet again
You are so welcome 🤗
Tender is the flesh is that book a bunch of redditors co-wrote together because anything that is edgy is good according to them
truuu
right before u showed the fit i was literally like that’s so cute wth so it is inevitable i will be shoppingwithcindy HAHHSJAHHAHKDKD
i knew it would entice yall
WAIT I was also at Shrekfest! I can't believe we could have crossed paths

i love the carebears sweater dearly 😍
edit: LMAO wait i got pulled in by hot topic and didn't even realize. awe man, i need to go back there...
omg the shrek drag show was amazing
Every time Levi was referred to as some sort of tree I lost it. 😂 I think at one point his legs were called Redwoods and I had to put the book down and laugh for 2 minutes straight. Honestly…I love it. I’ll read anything Ali puts out. Her books make me laugh.
Omg I love your ensemble 👏🏽
It’s giving Sapphic Cottagecore 🔥
P.S. All the outfits are fab!
😊 thank you
first off,, outfit is giving. second,, i have been waiting for you to review what my bones know for so long!! so excited to watch
Hope you like it!
I've just finished reading What My Bones Know for Asian Readathon on your recommendation. Thank you so much for the rec! It got me thinking about my own mental health, so I really appreciate it! I listened to the audiobook, which was great as it's narrated by Foo and she includes extracts from her therapy sessions with her last therapist. It's really interesting to hear both their voices, so I'd recommend it if you ever fancy a reread. :)
LOL I just read "Love on the Brain" and "Tender is the Flesh" as my first reads of 2023 and you're so right on both of them 🤣
hahaha which book did u like better?!
THAT BUTTERFLY DRESS, CINDY!!!!
Q-U-E-E-N!! 👑!!
def gonna wear it for spring!!
I had such a frustrating and long work day but all is right again when Cindy uploads 😌💅
i hope the rest of ur week gets better!!
I still haven’t gotten over Tender is the Flesh honestly just wild
cindy i am so glad to have found u
how did u find me!!
when I read tender is the flesh and book two, chapter two hit i closed it and never looked back
The way I know exactly which part you're talking about
was it when they removed the limbs from the pregnant women so they wouldn't self-harm?
My dog seemed to really enjoy the spoiler alarm for Tender is the Flesh lol
starting out with a hot topic outfit that is so adorable. this is already a hit! you look so cute! 😭
thank u!!
THE CARE BEARS CARDIGAN I'm in love 😭😭
