For anyone else reading this, I'm a car guy and have also spent over a decade at a claims center that handled premises insurance for new and used auto dealers here in the states. In this event the OP takes us thru, basically, your 3rd party lied to you about "the new" person that denied your claim without approval. Behind the scenes, NO CLAIM gets denied without a regional supervisor authorising the denial. If that claims person handling your file is a new person - they definatly dont have ANY authority to deny anything, without that claim file being roundtabled by their regional supervisor and maybe one other senior adjuster. Your 3rd party insurance only became friendly after the BMW rep called them and let them know you were taking them to court. All claim files are handled as if they are going to court. Most automotive 3rd party insurance carriers dont allow you to take them to a real court; they allow you to take them to an Arbitration venue, and their Arbitration decision is final! You agree to that when you buy their policy, and sign it. And every position in the Arbitration is filled with Voluntary personel. That personel are always other insurance ppl. Good for your BMW dealer for standing by you and good for you getting your atty involved. Most insurance carries wont lift a finger after a denial unless an atty sends a letter that they, the carrier, are now beung sued. Once a claim thats been denied receives that atty's letter, the file is then transferred from the simple liability claims adjuster to a senior adjuster that handles legal liability claims that have gone to court; its a different line of coverage that requires an adjuster familiar with the state/court that is handling the legal issue at hand. The insurance carrier usually then contracts one of the many law offices to represent them in court: and this comes at a cost. Your 3rd party insurance carrier, in an attempt to forgo the expense of an atty to represent them, knew they couldnt defend a defenseless denial in a cout of law.., and are now your "freind" working to get your car fix'd. Welcome to the legal world
I have a 2015 650i. I read all about the V8’s but I think the Gran Coupe is one of the most gorgeous cars I’ve ever seen! I knew they changed everything about the N63’s internals, crankshaft, pushrods, pistons, cams, etc… now it’s a N63tu, technical update. So I was able to talk to a former head mechanic at the local BMW dealership. He told me that BMW recalled every car with that motor that had under 100k miles and replaced the entire valve trains at no cost to the owner. One reason all high end cars get a bad rap is people buying high mileage cars that are out of warranty and haven’t been properly maintained. Then they find out how much maintenance is and don’t keep up with it. These are high performance engines that need to be maintained properly. It’s not a pushrod Chevy V8 that will go 300k. Don’t buy one if it doesn’t have low miles, a good maintenance record and if you can’t afford to maintain it.
Totally agree. I just pulled the trigger on a sight unseen on a 2013 650i grand coupe online with carvana. It had one owner for 10 years and 47 service records from purchase to when the owner sold it. It only had 47k miles. I know it's a V8 and you have to be willing to swallow the cost of repairs, but I'm hoping due to the facts I mentioned, the car shouldn't have too many issues or problems. 😬 Thoughts?
i know this video is 2 years old and you may not see this comment, but this video made me return my 2014 650i and purchased a 2016 since it had a few TU (technical updates) to the motor. i love the car and THANK YOU for posting your story!!
@Road Runna you nailed the video. Much props to you man. I am pulling the trigger on a 2014 BMW 650i coupe ( 70,140 miles, one owner, over 30 service records) this week. I did all of the research and your video did it for me. I will be sure to get that 3rd party warranty. Thanks, man. 🔥 🔥 🔥
If y’all really want a 650i make sure to change out these T shaped parts for metal ones. They’re on top of the intake manifold. They’re turbo coolant line connectors and they’ve been known to crack and cause coolant leaks. Also another way to help prevent engine failure is to change out the oil at least every 5000 miles. It will will prevent or reduce carbon build up. These engines are amazing at performance. But they can be touchy at times. But if you do regular maintenance and don’t redline it everyday or drive when it’s still warming up your engine should be fine. Also I’d stay away from 2012 models as they are a little bit more touchy.
Class action lawsuit against those engines got me to pay only 2.4k from the 12k bill originally. If the car fails the compression test you get to pay only 2.4K. And you also get a 2 year warranty. Happened with my 13 550i. Got a 15 now with 55k miles and runs like a dream.
I’ve always wanted a 650i but I’ll just stick to my 335i. The M6 seems to also have a similar issue. I pray they find a permanent solution for both n63tu / s63tu engines.
Here in the UK, many used car dealers have an agreement with a particular 3rd party warranty provider; the dealer gets to offer a 3 month basic warranty cheaply (or free) but gives the upsell to supposedly better tiers. If you read the terms and exclusions with some specific failures in mind it often amounts to no coverage on those failures. From memory they exclude manufacturing defects, design defects, wear and tear, corrosion, accidental damage, there's not a lot else that can cause a failure. I've known two people attempt to claim for different issues, and both times the claim was rejected. I've seen a lot of forum traffic about rejected claims and not one person ever seems to have had a claim accepted. I understand manufacturer-backed warranties are better, but when I got a quote for a Mercedes warranty on an old-but-not-yet-classic Mercedes, it was an order of magnitude more expensive as they actually cover stuff.
I own a 2015 BMW 650 x-drive. It hasn’t had any issues at all nor does it use much oil. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I love the car. Mine is totally stock and an absolute joy to drive. I hope you’ll get to enjoy yours without any issues from now on.
@@steveparkes731 Good to hear you're enjoying this beautifuly designed car without issues too. Mine is maintained by BMW in the Netherlands at the prescribed intervals and I still haven't had any costs worth mentioning. Does remapping make a big difference in daily driving?
@@foreversolvent5334 I was offered 6 months warranty when I bought it with 28.000 km in 2018. I didn’t buy it from a BMW garage. It had been traded in for a Volvo. The salesman and I had agreed on the price for the car but where still discussing some other items. He said the car came with 6 months warranty. When I asked for a full year of warranty the salesman said they didn’t offer a year. However, he said, we do offer 2 years as an option and since This is such a reliable car I’ll give you that without any extra costs. I still own and love the car. It has never given my any problems except once when we where on vacation in Italy. The check engine light turned on. I brought it to the nearby BMW garage where they reset something. It was just a glitch, they couldn’t find anything wrong. Or maybe it wasn’t a glitch and the car had Christine like properties. Because while she was at the garage a massive hail storm broke loose and caused major damage to every car in the area. Except for mine which had found temporary shelter in that garage…
Wow I'm going through this exact same thing right now. The only difference is my car cut off on the highway but there were no warning lights. My car only has 85k miles on it. I had the car towed to my house. It seemed like it needed a battery, so i bought one. It started right up, but i could hear a tapping sound. I then called the warranty company to insure i was covered. I then had it towed to the BMW dealership. I drove it on to the flat bed, but they couldn't get to it for a few days. When they did get to it, it would not start. The warranty company has sent a guy out to check the oil and antifreeze levels, which were good, and to take pictures. I just gave the BMW dealership permission to proceed with the tear down. When the mechanic drained the oil he stated that there were a lot of metal shavings present. Now I'm waiting on the tear down to be done so they can send the warranty guy out again to see the damage. All of this and I didn't have the car over 2 months 😕
Damn that’s a long time. Do they have you in a loaner ? I honestly was following up daily after two weeks. Once they got the green light they completed the work in 3 days lol . To much politics
@@RoadRunnaReviews no they did not. Does it matter that I got the car from another area. I was just told the same thing they told you. The warranty company says my car had no oil, and that's why my car locked up. I have the notes and pictures from the BMW dealership that says that they drained 9.2 quarts of oil from my car. It also says I had no warning lights and that my antifreeze levels was full.
@@RoadRunnaReviews Just like what happened to you, the guy the warranty company sent out was at the dealership about 5 minutes and came up with the same conclusion. I have all of the maintenance records and the paperwork from the dealership stating how much oil was in it at the time it was drained. Do you mind letting me know the name of the warranty company who sold you the warranty? Im just curious to see if its the same company. I've sent my case to the states attorney. The problem with that is there's a huge backlog. They received my case at the end of July, and they're just getting to July's cases.
I’m sorry you had to go through what you did, I’m here in Wisconsin and the dealership had a policy that they wouldn’t work on anything under 2010,and my 750iL was a 2006 and my warranty was under insurance and they left me hanging I had to pay for it myself like $3000 or more and later my engine locked up I wish I could have thought of threatening them with seeking legal counsel you brilliant man you got them to honor there agreement good job 👍🏾
Same thing happened to me in my 20’s with a Ford Taurus SHO. Never bought another Ford. I love the BMW 650, and was thinking of buying one...but now I’m rethinking it...
Thank you for sharing, I was considering not getting a warranty with my new purchase , I’m getting one now and thanks for taking the care to share with us !❤
Bro I had the same problem but with my 2013 550i it's the n63 engine BMW had a quote-unquote recall of that engine for catastrophic failure of certain parts. If your car was between 60 and 100000 miles it was covered under the class action suit the bang settlement. As I speak my car is at the dealership getting evaluated as to what happened. My car did exactly what yours did. I had a quote around $16,000 to replace the engine and certain parts. This engine was and still is covered under the class action suit.
Hey brother question, I have the same exact car as you nothing is wrong yet with mine but do have wait catastrophic failure to replace my engine?? Under this lawsuit
Having owned a few BMW's and being a qualified BMW motorcycle tech I will say BMW are a passion not a practical solution. All have issues but you have to ask yourself is it worth it? For me, yes! I am currently running a 530i Msport which has had issues also but I love it. You're totally right about the warranty as saved my bacon a few times. Living in New Zealand the roads are fantastic and a road trip in a Toyota just wouldn't cut it for me. 650i is what I have my eye on as the family getting older now so won't need the space and love GT cars as so ridiculous as no room, big and thirsty but that smile on your face is the whole point IMHO. Good vid mate

Two primary questions: What was the root cause of the engine seizure? Did it indeed run out of oil and the oil light never came on? Or when you downshifted that caused some weird issue? Did BMW tell you what they found? Was oil gone, bearing failure, or what else? You mentioned lots of other people having an engine seizure issue... What year is your 650i GC? Was the blown engine the N63TU? Did they replace it with a TU2? What is the name of that 3rd party warranty company? Glad it all got sorted! That's a huge $20k bill to eat if it didn't, heh.
Tittled this a bit wrong. I still don’t really why your motor seized. Video should be titled “dealing with 3rd party warranty.” Glad things haves worked out your way.
Glad you got out of that nightmare. Ive been buying and driving new 5 Series V8 powered sedans since 2001 (540,545,545, & 550). My N63 initially had its share of issues, but of course is also the most powerful. My 7 year extended BMW warranty recently expired, so now away it must go. Hello Carmax.
i was very fortunate to buy a 2015 750 from a elder neighbor . he serviced the car every 500 miles religiously. "Oil changes" he rarely drove it but always kept up oil changes and tire replacements. he only had 12k miles and i bought it from him for a STEAL. today the car has almost 75 k miles and ive only had some gaskets replaced out of cautionary. but the thing is i only pay a 100 deductible and everything is repaired. BMW service is phenominal. Absolutely the BEST in the business. But before my warranty runs out i will depart it and move on to something newer.
Keep changing your oil frequently - within reason. What I do for my 335 is I take the recommended BMW official yearly oil change interval and chop it in half to get my personal oil change interval. Also change your transfer case oil and diff oil; I did my front diff (cause I have an xdrive) oil and transfer case oil at (80 000 km - which is about 50 000 miles). This is in fact the official number that my BMW dealership gave me after I prodded them (first they said its lifetime oil; but then when I said it is not a lease and I own the car and want to run the car for 200 000 plus miles they gave me 80k km or 50k miles). The 650 is a heavy car, so it's transmission takes a lot of wear and tear. Take care of it!! Besides the transfer case oil change cost me $120 CAD and another $120 for a front diff oil change; the alternative is a broken part well that's going to be exorbitant. Good luck.
brother I myself had 3 bmws 335is which was the best and fan to drive, 535i and X5 F15 4.4L. The only thing I advise to every bmw owner is to change the oil using Castroil every 4-5k miles. Also don't forget to change the air filters every 10-15k miles. I got my X5 from the auction and had to replace the entire engine from the dealership. The vehicle got into an accident a month ago and after spending that much money on it got totalled.
That is a bad engine design for reability. What often happens is the valve stem guides goes hard and worn from heat and carbon deposits, and the engine starts to consume much oil and may lock up. Or the timing guids made from plastic fails
If anyone wants to buy a beautiful 6 series, go for the 640i. The inline 6 is way more reliable than the V8 which is known for being unreliable. But if you really want to have the V8, the 650i, make sure all the history of maintenance is there and do it like the guy in the vid, take the bumper to bumper insurance. Hell, take that insurance anyway when you're spending 15000 plus on a car.
Beautiful car but this review just talked me out of purchasing one. I can’t imagine the mental stress of having gone through this or having t.o possibly having to come out of pocket for 20k in repairs. I’m glad things worked out well for you.
Hey Dude. Australia here. Great video. Recently purchased 640i convertible and did buy 3rd party warranty for the reasons you mention. Your video confirms that but also highlights what you need to do if the warranty company starts to try and get out of it. Keep on them and threaten legal action. Great video. Keep it up!
Great video. Bmws are notorious for having issues. I know the bmw fan boys don't want to hear this but it's unfortunately true. Overall if you take care of them, they will be OK. Endurance and car shield is what I've used for years and they both have been great to work with.
mike a is a goddamn idiot...........they have issues...........unless you take care of them....dude you are a goddamn joke, enjoy your honda piece of shit
Never buy BMW’s v8 engines because it’s a hot V which has the turbos located between the cylinders, and they are very unreliable after they age. Either go for the 4 cylinder or the inline 6.
@@BL3ND392 Well the engine right now is running fine and it has not had a single breakdown.... though I did replace my charge pipe, TIC with the anodized metal ER pipes and Inlet pipe with the silicone MST pipe to get rid of BMW cheap plastic. When I got the stock pipes back after the install i did note that the charge pipe was felt weak and upon testing it broke at the connection to the throttle body. Also now on highway driving, my engine is running 15 C cooler than with stock pipes....which should reduce overall wear and tear on the engine.
Sumedha Pussegoda im planning on buying a bmw i have 2 choices either a 2018 530i or a 2016 640i i like both and they’re the same price and I can’t decide which one to go for keep in my they’re on my budget and I’ll probably keep it for no more than 3 years.
@@BL3ND392 well first you should look at functionality.... i can't say what you are looking for in that department the 640i is primarily a 2 door unless you are looking at the grand coupe.... that being said engine wise I would recommend the 640i cause it has the inline 6.... the inline 6 is what got BMW to where it is today... also the 640 is a nicer car than the 530.... the 6 series was out of my budget when I bought my car.... but essential things in making the decision are have a mechanic look at it... if you have a Carly or a friend that has a Carly system, get them to look plug it in and look at the codes that pop up.... and I can never stress oil changes enough..... regular oil changes - take the BMW official recommended yearly oil change number for the car chop it half and change it then..... 80% of all engine problems can be avoided with fresh oil.....all these new turbo engines operate at really high temperatures so having good lubrication is essential....
I don't know what brand of oil you use but, my Volvo S60 just bit the dust yesterday running off of Pennzoil approaching 6k miles. From what I've been told that brand of oil is notorious for burning up European cars. I had previously only used Castrol but, there were 3 hour waits to get into a decent shop. So I ended up going to a JiffyLube. Kicking myself hard right now....Sorry to hear about your situation. Glad you were able to get it resolved :)
I own two BMWs with the same n63tu 50i engine, a 2015 x5 and 2016 x6. Both were rock solid in the two years we had them but I was surprised to see that the x6 did not warn me of low oil. It just happened that I ran an oil check one day the it told me it was low on oil and add 2qts. Ever since I'm checking oil frequently. Based on this and your story, I think what likely happened in your case is the engine did run dry. Glad it sorted out for you, the 50i engine is a blast!!!
Yep, same happened with me. Random check of oil level and it said two quarts low. I was lucky as well, and now I check it every few days. The oil in these N63’s old or new get burned quick. I will change mine every 3,000 miles. BMW is so full of sh!t claiming 10,000 miles is fine. It is not guaranteed. My oil is bunt after 3-4 maybe 5 at most. Be aware of this if you own a BMW V8 of any year or model. These are high maintenance vehicles just the way it is. If you want a low maintenance forever warranty go with a KIA from what I hear!
I have an F12 and wonder how can the engine have no oil without you knowing it? The warnings built into the Vehicle Status menu would let you know that you're low if you had a leak somewhere. So what happened? How did it loose the oil? Here's a tip. Using the Sport + I paddle shifted to pass someone and snapped the differential pinion shaft so be gentle when using Sport + to launch
Did any of the indicators in the car showed that oil quantity was getting low?...or oil temperature was abnormally high....even water temperature running unusually high....any tell tale signs before the engine siezed?...thanks for your info...
Nope. I just had it serviced however I noticed I was going through a quart of oil frequently prior to it going out. After repair the consumption was much more normal
I learn have extended on pre-owned luxury vehicle. His so important at the dealership. I have two insurance audi and another for windshield, tires and cosmetic repair.
Yo bro, I’m currently going through this with a BMW 640i 2014 that i just bought and haven’t even drove more then 2 days. What warranty company did you use ? I’m currently fighting with the dealership and not too sure what to do. My turbo doesn’t work and it has multiple problems that weren’t listed.
I had the same problem with my 550i and I had to fork over a good amount of money. BMW left me out there to dry. They do not stand behind their product at all. I love driving them but hate having to engage with them as a company. They know full well the problems with the engine's seizing and do nothing about it.
Same thing happened to me, different car brand, NOT 3rd party warranty, $21,000 in repair costs, warranty denied because the breakdown happened too soon. Same again, hired a lawyer and the dealer that sold me the warranty (not the warranty scam company itself) ended up paying me back (I had to write the $21,000 check to get my car back after 3 MONTHS in the shop). The dealer sold me a warranty for a $110,000 car without ever seeing or inspecting the car. I remember being amazed that they could/would do that, but, it ended up making sense. They just deny your claim! No risk to them really. For all the people that gave up, or couldn't afford a lawyer, I feel your pain!
Damn. It’s between a 650 gram coupe or an Infiniti Q50 red sport. I had an E60 a few years back. Salvage title Bought it at auction for a very good price. Drove it for 6 years with zero issues. But I have heard of the headaches that come with bmw. :/
Owning BMW is like a love/ hate relationship. People complain about them yet the same people keep buying them lol. I love these cars myself and just consider it an unlucky event for me.
I had a 3rd party warranty on my CADILLAC STS some 17 years ago blew its head at 61k. Just put of manufacturer's warranty time limit. They denied the claim. Called an attorney. They honored the claim.
@@RoadRunnaReviews if you don't mind me asking, are you on top of regular maintenance? Also, how many miles were you at when it happened? Wondering if it's a 650 thing or would it happen to the 640 as well. Thanks

Really good video man, I'm looking into the 650/M6 after over 15 years of M62/n62 experience...very insightful video...I wonder if this motor is random in burning oil because of the tight tolerances...small passages get blocked etc...BMW design fault in short...I still want one though.
Brilliant car. One of my all time favorite but Definitely a bmw design flaw. It is random AF even if you take care of the motor. The only thing I see common in the motors that have the issue is a bad oil consumption problem. If you buy 100% get a compression test before!

BMW lost their direction when they discounted reliability as a necessary feature. I had a 640i GC for awhile, but holy cow, it was unreliable. The 650i took unreliability to the next level. They sure look great though!!! P.S. Sell it

Several more small items that kept my weekends busy. I sold it at 90k miles. None of these items were horrible but were unexpected in a $86k car. I was constantly irritated with it since I don't have these types of problems in my Genesis sedan or Tacoma pickup. I probably just made it perfect for the next owner to drive 60k miles problem free. Sold it. During covid value went up and couldn’t pass up. The issue is very common in these motors BMW has a class action lawsuit regarding the aggressive oil consumption problem which lead to pre-mature failure in their v8 motors
I'm thinking about buying a used bmw 640i gran coupe, because I been watching a lot of UA-cam and they are basically saying. If you buy a used bmw 650i grancoupe, you better off buying a 640i gran coupe because it has a 6 cylinder and you probably won't have to many issues with the 640i . So I call BMW and ask them how much would it be to buy an aftermarket warranty, they told me seven thousands dollars and the 650i not a 640i and the car has to be under 60 thousand miles for bmw to even touch the car. 640i has less 315horsepower and 330 foot power of torque, but it's will save me a Bunch of headaches.
Yeah the N63 is known to be unreliable. I just had mine in the shop the turbo oil return line had removed itself, & my crankcase ventilation hoses were frayed & snapped.

Cool video.👍🏾😉. What did BMW say was the real issue ????. I had the 650 and now have the M6. Neither cars burnt any oil. None at all. I have zero engine issues but you've seen my 650xi show already.
Lol they claim they couldn’t find the reason and just said the motor was seized. I was going to take it to my personal mechanic for inspection however I was fighting the warranty company and didn’t want any excuses for them not to cover cost if I went somewhere else. I believe some of v8s are just bad internals and there’s been many lawsuits around them.

Great video and even though cars are expensive and exclusive they break . Would you recommend any warranty company that is worth buying ?? Thank you !!
Thats a great question. I would say BMW #1 as you can hold them liable since they are the maker. If outsourced check out Carshield, Carchex or Endurance. Although all companies you might have to fight these have some good reviews mixed in with bad. Best of luck.
I love my 650i grande coupe but I am currently having issues. I do know my car goes through oil fast. In the last months my car has been twice. The fuel system light comes on and the car just freezes and dies. You can even put the car in neutral or even turn the wheel. It is going to the BMW dealership on Monday. We will see what they say. Have you had that happen?
Christina Boyce yes that is exactly what happened to me in this video. The motor in this car is prone to internal issues and BMW has been in lawsuits regarding the specific motor in our cars. Hopefully it’s not as bad and they can identify the issue for you. Best of luck
Road Runna Reviews as much money that I have put into my car makes me sick. I am just getting nervous now. BMW extended the warranties on the engine fuel injector, the pressure switch-leak diagnosis module, high pressure fuel pump and engine crankcase to 10 years/120k. Obviously, I no longer have a factory warranty and never purchased additional warranties. I saw the law suits too. Is it worth going that route? When I first called to make an appt my local BMW dealership said they refused to work on my car and I had to go to a different BMW dealership. No explanation. So it took me having to contact corporate to get answers. The GM called me and now my car is going on Monday. Do you have any advise or suggestions on what to do? I don’t want to get rid of my car. I was just getting ready to get exhaust put on it too.
Christina Boyce I mean at this time there isn’t much you can do. BMW has your car and your warranty should cover any issues. IF they come back and give you a BS reason why they won’t cover it let then let know you did your research and this potentially could be something you couldn’t of caused. Hopefully everything goes well and they cover it for you.
Smart move calling the dealership to let them know you were seeking legal counsel on their warranty. I world have demanded an additional $5000 for the pain they put you through.
Hi I have a question I just bought a 650i 2012 my cigar lighter is not working I don't know where the fuse box located or the location of the cigarette fuse do u happen to know or the number of the fuse? I appreciate it
Sorry bro this is a terrible thing to happen to anyone. At this point it’s common and it’s internal components of the v8 motor that allow certain parts to overheat. they ended up replacing the entire motor and did not breakdown the old one unless I paid for it.
@@RoadRunnaReviews thank you for the respond. Yes I do have extended warranty that the dealer works side by side with an I have the highest top tier. @@RoadRunnaReviews so hey boss. My bmw dealer is calling it siezed engine but just cause the engine ain’t turning that’s what there calling it. I was told it could be multiple factors. So warranty is asking for a tear down … how did you avoid the tear down an what did the dealer actual say what was the root of the cause? Other then internal parts heating up.
Hey My Guy. So Warranty is paying most of it. It was an internal failure. Quik question. Could you remember what dealer was charging for Labor hours alone just to replace ? The warranty mentioned to me 42 hrs just about. An the dealer asking for 64 hrs. An because the warranty is only paying out so much. So the dealer with there labor hours I could be coming out of pocket a few thousand. .. any recommendations on how I should I approach that.
@@boston05011 yea send a demand letter to the warranty company to pay the rest or you will sue. Also talk to the dealership that sold you the warranty. I did that last minute and they said they would calll them and that indeed was the missing piece to winning my claim .. good luck 👍🏾
I was looking to buy this car love it but maintenance is crazy . And yea was looking for a video with good info definitely the only good review . Keep it bro 💯🙏
Trading in my 06 911 S Convertible for one. Thanks for the information. I had a 2000 540i M manual trans without warranty. Paid the price. Great video.
Sage advice on the 3rd party warranty. I sought quotes for mine but got busy and while taking my wife out to dinner recently the engine seized up on my m6 gc.
BitDoodle sorry to hear that man, did it seize under warranty or are you fixing out of pocket? To be honest all warranty / insurance have mixed reviews and I would generally recommend going with a BMW warranty however I personally know they aren’t always the best. Did you buy the car from BMW?
Thank you so much for your great video! 🙏 I have been through something very similar with a 335M sport I had where the engine went on me a year out of warranty. I should have got another warrantee! It cost me 11k to rebuild! I now have an E92 M3 that now has 80k on the clock and was looking to buy the 650Grand coupe next. I will definitely do what I have done with the M3 and with the 650! I hope you have much better luck with the car now and great work on taking things all the way to the get the 3rd party warrantee company to cover it!! All the best and keep the great vlogs coming!!👍
Thanks bro.. I can tell you love BMW’s like me. Things like this happen with cars and it’s just good to have that second warranty as a backup unless you are a good mechanic lol. How you like the m3 I always wanted an E92?
Road Runna Reviews Hi Ben, Thanks for writing back! I love the E92 M3! The naturally aspirated high revving V8 is breath taking and sounds awesome! It’s now just time for me to get the grand tourer I always wanted! Go for something more comfortable and luxurious, plus more modern in technology. Are you still happy with your 650 despite the unfortunate difficulties you have had mechanically? It’s the best looking tourer in my view and drove great on test drive!
Patrick irie yard man I have aftermarket HFC and Megan exhaust from the mufflers back . I find this setup has minimum drone yet deeper sound when you get up in RPMs. The down sound is I still feel it is relatively quiet l however it is a turbo v8 so it’s not gonna sound insane.
The motor internals seized. In other words the motor stop turning over. There is no exact answer as BMW did not disclose completely however these v8 engines have a flawed design with excessive oil burning and overheating issues. Very common issue that bmw was sued for.
Hey, I just purchased a 650 Grand Coupe and was quoted $4800 for an extended warranty. Do you think that's reasonable? Do you know of any warranty companies that are GOOD?
Ahh the N63/TUx. The amazing BMW Basket case motor. There is an entire lawsuit and customer care package dealing with this motor and parts of the drive train.
Very disappointed in this video. I was hoping to find out what killed your engine, but most importantly what warranty company are you talking about. Those are the two most important things that can be learned here and would be helpful to BMW owners and potential BMW owners. That you should get a warranty on a luxury automobile unless you are rich is kind of a no brainer.
😬 Thoughts?

@Road Runna you nailed the video. Much props to you man. I am pulling the trigger on a 2014 BMW 650i coupe ( 70,140 miles, one owner, over 30 service records) this week. I did all of the research and your video did it for me. I will be sure to get that 3rd party warranty.

What other recommendations do you have ?
Class action lawsuit against those engines got me to pay only 2.4k from the 12k bill originally. If the car fails the compression test you get to pay only 2.4K. And you also get a 2 year warranty. Happened with my 13 550i. Got a 15 now with 55k miles and runs like a dream.
what year does this lawsuit apply too?
I’ve always wanted a 650i but I’ll just stick to my 335i. The M6 seems to also have a similar issue. I pray they find a permanent solution for both n63tu / s63tu engines.
335i is a dope car. I test drove the new m version and loved the performance way more than my 6
Check out the 640i. Same looks, but lighter and more reliable. ;)
M6 don't got these issues
rohandi antoine yea I realized the s63tu is better compared to the n63tu .
Thanks for sharing your experience! Buying a 2012 650i this weekend

@@amirkazemi2517 right but WHY was there no oil in the engine to begin with ?
@@Jdirtadventures There was oil in the engine. It was the excuse the insurance company gave in order not to pay the bill.
What’s next ?
Hell yeah man. As soon as that warranty is done the car needs to go! 😂
i was very fortunate to buy a 2015 750 from a elder neighbor . he serviced the car every 500 miles religiously.
Good luck.
What warranty company is it or who do you recommend?
brother I myself had 3 bmws 335is which was the best and fan to drive, 535i and X5 F15 4.4L.

Great video. Bmws are notorious for having issues. I know the bmw fan boys don't want to hear this but it's unfortunately true. Overall if you take care of them, they will be OK. Endurance and car shield is what I've used for years and they both have been great to work with.

I know im a bit late but is it because it is reliability? And is it that big of a difference? Thinking about getting one
Never buy BMW’s v8 engines because it’s a hot V which has the turbos located between the cylinders, and they are very unreliable after they age. Either go for the 4 cylinder or the inline 6.
Never go for the turbo 4.... it's a piece of shit engine.... go for the the inline 6.... it is the engine that got BMW to where it is now....
Sumedha Pussegoda so does it have reliability issues or what
@@BL3ND392 Well the engine right now is running fine and it has not had a single breakdown.... though I did replace my charge pipe, TIC with the anodized metal ER pipes and Inlet pipe with the silicone MST pipe to get rid of BMW cheap plastic. When I got the stock pipes back after the install i did note that the charge pipe was felt weak and upon testing it broke at the connection to the throttle body. Also now on highway driving, my engine is running 15 C cooler than with stock pipes....which should reduce overall wear and tear on the engine.

Who is the warranty company?
Warranty companies always try to steal your money and deny your claims at all cost.
BMW used there own oil which is labeled BMW oil however it is actually a special version of castroil . Yea I’m glad it work out too lol
Using the Sport + I paddle shifted to pass someone and snapped the differential pinion shaft so be gentle when using Sport + to launch
my 2012 535 ran low without the computer told me. I relied on the alert, but never got it. had to get rid of the car.

Which warranty would you suggest on getting if the third party warranty is a piece of you who what?
Yea man it’s wild how May people share our story. Main reason I made this video to advise anyone buying this motor.
Greetings from Spain from a fellow BMW 6 owner (F12). Did BMW ever disclose you what was the real reason for the engine to cease?
Great story, thanks for sharing!
The Q50 is a wonderful car and I would recommend it
Now you know the difference between a 650's motor and a M6's motor lol, glad everything worked out for you bro! Keep them coming.
What do you mean by this? Honest ask
I had a 3rd party warranty on my CADILLAC STS some 17 years ago blew its head at 61k. Just put of manufacturer's warranty time limit. They denied the claim. Called an attorney. They honored the claim.
Funny how that works. Insurance and warranties are some of the biggest scam artist. IMO
Great video man. Because of your videos I really want a 650 now
It is a great car man! just make sure you get the warranty!
@@RoadRunnaReviews if you don't mind me asking, are you on top of regular maintenance? Also, how many miles were you at when it happened? Wondering if it's a 650 thing or would it happen to the 640 as well. Thanks
@@TangosTech Yea I was on top of maintenance. Google N42 engine problems and you will see its a common problem. Some 650 owners never have an issue and some (me) have internal engine failure. 640i has different engine which is safer. Either way love the cars.
@@RoadRunnaReviews Gotcha. Thanks for the reply. Love your car.
What was the problem with engine???
Really good video man, I'm looking into the 650/M6 after over 15 years of M62/n62 experience...very insightful video...I wonder if this motor is random in burning oil because of the tight tolerances...small passages get blocked etc...BMW design fault in short...I still want one though.
Brilliant car. One of my all time favorite but Definitely a bmw design flaw. It is random AF even if you take care of the motor. The only thing I see common in the motors that have the issue is a bad oil consumption problem. If you buy 100% get a compression test before!
@@RoadRunnaReviews frightening stuff as I thought the n62 in my 645 was bad enough! My e31 is perhaps the era they got V8's fairly consistent. You got Instagram man?

2015 Msport with executive and cold weather and package
Stay away from the 2013s 650i gran coup turbo takes a poop many times
I had the same problem with my CPO 2013 535i xdrive. I replaced the motor on my own dime for a pretty penny, $10,000. I have no warranty. Curious to know what company you used
Hey man, how many miles did you have on the car when it happened
Roughly 40k-44k
How’s your 6 series doing now, what company was the guy new at, the warranty company or the dealership
I ended up selling it and buying a corvette z06. The warranty company
Yeah I kind of went through the same thing
BMW lost their direction when they discounted reliability as a necessary feature. I had a 640i GC for awhile, but holy cow, it was unreliable. The 650i took unreliability to the next level. They sure look great though!!! P.S. Sell it
Hello Ron, I just purchased a 640i with very low mileage... could you share the issues you met with yours? I would be very interested! Thank you. 🙏
@@gowwar491 A rattle in the dash near the HUD (never found or fixed), valve cover gasket leak (dripped onto the catalytic converter and smelled like I was driving a tractor), oil filter housing gasket leak, rear window shade broke and I replaced with used one, simulated leather on door and console turned to goo and I replaced, rattle in driver's door that turned out to be a support arm clip not inserted properly, 1 door lock actuator replaced, front rotors replaced. One of the best looking rides you can get!
@@ronmac1832 Was it a new, fresh car, or did you buy a used one? Sounds like it was badly damaged before :)
do you still have car ? was this common with other owners ? What caused the issue
7000???? Where
Buy it with a credit union. Dealers always charge more.
I appreciate this video brother
Yeah the N63 is known to be unreliable. I just had mine in the shop the turbo oil return line had removed itself, & my crankcase ventilation hoses were frayed & snapped.
Murcielago SV damn bro sorry to hear that
Road runner how’s it going I’m in the process of getting a i650 as we speak next week. So I would like to know which warranty company did you deal with so I can get the same thanks bro
@@RoadRunnaReviews many times I think even the dealers are pulling at straws. That's what i found when i had my 650i issues. They changed so much before getting to the real issue
@///AMG how many V8 BMW's have you owned ///AMG?????. I'm on my third car that has a V8 engine in it. Only my 550i had to change the exhaust valve seals.
@@RoadRunnaReviews Thank you !!
Love your channel. Subscribed.
Doesn't Bmw have a customer care package for that motor? It's basically a recall without Bmw calling it a recall because of law suits.
Great channel bro
Thanks G?
@@RoadRunnaReviews I just purchased a B6 for my channel and you are one of the few channels I found
Smart move calling the dealership to let them know you were seeking legal counsel on their warranty. I world have demanded an additional $5000 for the pain they put you through.
Hi I have a question I just bought a 650i 2012 my cigar lighter is not working I don't know where the fuse box located or the location of the cigarette fuse do u happen to know or the number of the fuse? I appreciate it
I have to car. My engine just seized up as well. Always fully maintained dealer. What exactly was the cause of it did they say ?
Sorry bro this is a terrible thing to happen to anyone. At this point it’s common and it’s internal components of the v8 motor that allow certain parts to overheat. they ended up replacing the entire motor and did not breakdown the old one unless I paid for it.
@@RoadRunnaReviews thank you for the respond. Yes I do have extended warranty that the dealer works side by side with an I have the highest top tier. An it says all engine components internally lubricated. An so it always been serviced dealer an topped off every time when said add quart of oil An just did oil change in July. Topped off about 3 weeks prior to this just happening. I can only pray that I’m ok.
@@RoadRunnaReviews so hey boss. My bmw dealer is calling it siezed engine but just cause the engine ain’t turning that’s what there calling it. I was told it could be multiple factors. Like a timing chain broke an got stuck ect ect. So they went in with a boroscope and seen nothing from the top.

Nice video, keep it up fam 🙏🙏
Thank you so much for your great video! 🙏
I have been through something very similar with a 335M sport I had where the engine went on me a year out of warranty.

It’s now just time for me to get the grand tourer I always wanted! Go for something more comfortable and luxurious, plus more modern in technology.
Are you still happy with your 650 despite the unfortunate difficulties you have had mechanically? It’s the best looking tourer in my view and drove great on test drive!
DAVID SALEM dope, yea bro the car is great. It’s so much more sport then the 5 series but still has the luxury / boss feel to it.
David, do you know why the engine when out
geo745don I was told carbon built up in my valves blew into my engine.
Ben how much louder is your exhaust over stock and is it axle back.
@@RoadRunnaReviews Thank you.
This happens when the tech forgets to put oil in the engine after the oil change.
What was wrong though?..why did it freeze up on you?..sensor or ?
The motor internals seized. In other words the motor stop turning over. There is no exact answer as BMW did not disclose completely however these v8 engines have a flawed design with excessive oil burning and overheating issues. Very common issue that bmw was sued for.
Hey, I just purchased a 650 Grand Coupe and was quoted $4800 for an extended warranty. Do you think that's reasonable? Do you know of any warranty companies that are GOOD?
My 2017 warranty ends in April... thinking about buying the extended warranty too. Did you get it?
Did u get it?
What was the name of the third party warranty company? I'm looking for one now and I want to avoid this one that gave you this horrible experience
Ahh the N63/TUx. The amazing BMW Basket case motor. There is an entire lawsuit and customer care package dealing with this motor and parts of the drive train.
and the owner gets stuck for paying the labor!
Does bmw cover the cost to repair?
Great vid very informative.
