I couldn't leave for a long time as I had young children and I had given up my career ( narcs create this situation to isolate you for control) I really regret not leaving a long time ago. Leave when you have the means and opportunity and leave quietly. Don't tell the narc and go no contact if possible. They never change only get worse with time.

My understanding is, that however bad a man or a woman is compared to their spouse, they should always strive to improve themselves as a human being. And a good spouse will show good upright example and encourage the other half until they become a good person or better.
Are you basically saying that if we get a bad women while the man is good, the man should strive to still be good? I read this verse and I thought that it's amazing, Allah will give us righteous spouses if we ourselves are righteous but when I found out that's not always the case I became angry because it's incredibly unfair. Sometimes, I think Allah puts that good spouse as a source of continuous Dawah in the life of the bad spouse. That "bad" spouse then reveals their true nature, having someone with good akhlaq and deen to help guide them back to Allah. Some will work actively to change for the better because of this good spouse but unfortunately, others won't. I believe Allah puts the strongest, most empathetic of us in these types of relationships because anyone else would break within days. And ultimately, a case is built for or against the "bad" spouse that will be used against him/her on the Day of Judgement.

What I understand in this verse, is that as a good person we are supposed to look for a good spouse, that's being very factual instead of being emotional, because sometimes we know quite alright that most people/things are not good for us but we still go ahead. Allah knows best.
We can also add that good men are interested in good women, and good women are interested in good men. For example, a man or woman who prays five times a day and takes care of their faith (Iman) will look for a spouse who also prays regularly and values their faith. Likewise, a person who is less mindful of their faith may not seek a spouse who practices religious observances, like covering their head or praying five times a day.

I just always remind my self that this life is nothing but a test so I try to not focus or think about things like good relationships/ love, I’ve just given up on the thought of a happy relationship I’m 35 and I wouldn’t even want to risk letting someone in my life that can most likely end up being a nightmare tbh. I observe the same phenomenon this brother asked about. There is usually a dominant oppressive likely abusive spouse and a spouse who is beaten down and oppressed. I am almost 50. I have pondered the same question this brother asked. I have seen a lot with my own eyes.
What i learned is that the first or second or even the third spouse isn’t always the „best“ for you but they improve your character and strengthen your deen while you are married with them. So I think for some people the marriage is the biggest trial in their lives and Allah wants to see how people act in this circumstances. Divorcing is getting way to easy nowadays nobody wants even to try anymore.
Allah subhanu wa'tala sees the heart that no others beings can see. It's not just the action, but the heart that makes a person good and bad. Allah subhanu wa'tala encourages you my brother's and sisters to strive towards goodness not just by action, but truly committing with your heart!

My understanding is that it’s a statistical rule, not a “natural law” which somehow dictates every single relationship. Because we’re all mixed bags. “Good men” have some bad things which filters out good women or somehow finds “bad women” as attractive and vice versa.
If we're with a bad person even though we think we're good, I think we should look at ourselves. Don't be so proud of our goodness. Maybe there's something in us which needed to be improved. We should ask ourselves is all that we've done we've done it because of Allah? Or is it because our nafs to be seen as good?
My understanding is that a "true" good man is bound to end up with a "true" good woman. But the problem is, it is almost impossible for us to determine who a true good man or a woman is. Somebody might be a good person in the eyes of society, but only Allah knows the true nature of that person. A "true" good man or woman will only attract someone who also radiates that good spiritual energy. On the other hand, a person who is only good in the eyes of society might have hidden traits that are slightly evil in nature which could gravitate them towards worldly benefits, which, as a result might pull them towards people who might only offer those worldly benefits, resulting in a non ideal or toxic partner.
My response as a simple message to the atheists and believers to the requestor Jihad : « It’s not about being with the good partner. It’s all about becoming the RIGHT partner for your (future) spouse. » In itself is a blessing for both your entire family and you, whether one believes in God or the energy/Universe. Logically and psychologically, anyone who focuses on becoming the Right partner will have one’s Retical Activating System focused on seeking a partner aligned with the same sets of values, hence ending up making it a reality « good man with good woman and vice versa ». If you analyse it properly, all « bad couples » are both broken partners. One exhibits his wounds aggressively while the other one engulfs it silently.

My understanding is that it’s a statistical rule, not a “natural law” which somehow dictates every single relationship. Because we’re all mixed bags. “Good men” have some bad things which filters out good women or somehow finds “bad women” as attractive and vice versa.

If we're with a bad person even though we think we're good, I think we should look at ourselves. Don't be so proud of our goodness. Maybe there's something in us which needed to be improved. We should ask ourselves is all that we've done we've done it because of Allah? Or is it because our nafs to be seen as good?

My understanding is that a "true" good man is bound to end up with a "true" good woman. But the problem is, it is almost impossible for us to determine who a true good man or a woman is. Somebody might be a good person in the eyes of society, but only Allah knows the true nature of that person. A "true" good man or woman will only attract someone who also radiates that good spiritual energy. On the other hand, a person who is only good in the eyes of society might have hidden traits that are slightly evil in nature which could gravitate them towards worldly benefits, which, as a result might pull them towards people who might only offer those worldly benefits, resulting in a non ideal or toxic partner.
My response as a simple message to the atheists and believers to the requestor Jihad :
« It’s not about being with the good partner. It’s all about becoming the RIGHT partner for your (future) spouse. »
In itself is a blessing for both your entire family and you, whether one believes in God or the energy/Universe.
Logically and psychologically, anyone who focuses on becoming the Right partner will have one’s Retical Activating System focused on seeking a partner aligned with the same sets of values, hence ending up making it a reality « good man with good woman and vice versa ».
If you analyse it properly, all « bad couples » are both broken partners. One exhibits his wounds aggressively while the other one engulfs it silently.
