This is the story of the death of someone. First, it's lamenting. 'You were the answer to my dreams...', Eyes Half Closed is a song in which the singer supposedly laments the death of his love, or the departure of his love, remembering good old times, trying to deny the pain and still in denial of things, that it's not the end of his world... You can say that, to an extent, he wants to hide the pain while still being in pain. That's human nature. Reminiscing in the good times while still hurting. We hurt, and we have pleasure at the same time. It's contradictory, but it's humanity. Notice how he holds this someone so highly in his esteem, but then he goes on by saying 'you weren't all I needed', as if he wants to find an excuse not to lament, not to feel sad... but he can't help it. Then, in Whisper, he leans for acceptance, while still clinging onto the memory of his love, 'you're a whisper my love, trapped in my mind and I hold you from time to time', this is metaphorical inbetween death and departure, nobody can hear this whisper aside from him, plus, the 'silent wish to have no fear' could be regarded as a metaphor for wanting to be all right, wanting to be happy with one another. Perhaps one of the best songs of the entire EP, filled with emotions. So, now, we have sadness and denial, then acceptance and grief. People that are familiar with grief are familiar with the notion that a loved one that passed is watching them from heaven and 'guiding' them, it's a coping mechanism of sorts. So when Crywolf says that the someone he loves(/ed) is a whisper, it could mean that person passed and he's the only one she can 'talk to' because they were really close. Perhaps, the closest. I'd like to think that Emalyn plays an essential role. In the beginning of the EP, she sings, and in the song that is perhaps the most emotional and heartfelt, she also sings. In a song where Crywolf says 'you're a whisper my love, trapped in my mind[..]', a woman is still singing. Emalyn could be the representation of the person he loved that died. The ghost that remains because they're in love. In Angels, the singer speaks of his love, still, taking joy in the memories of the past, emphasizing on how he fell in love with his kindred... for the first time. He realizes he simply cannot let go of his love. 'Come back into the water, holding tight', he realizes he simply cannot let go. He was afraid to fall in love with someone, but then, he's losing that someone, and he can't accept it, or rather, he takes joy in the memories of the past with clinging onto them. 'Angels' could be metaphorical to something akin to ascension to a higher plane, for his love. And it's very common when you're in grief. You tend to reflect on the first moments you spent with that person and how it made you feel. People remember the way things made them FEEL in the past. Feelings play a big role in memory to the point that you can never forget a feeling but you can forget an event. This was no normal event, though, was it? In Bury Now, I feel like the singer comes to terms with the reality. It is a happy song, though! That's what you think. Sad people in love produce the most amazing work. Bury Now is, to me, him accepting his love's death. And keeping an amazing memory of his love. Imagine a woman with wings leaving to a bright light with this song. Looking back on it, I feel like he's FORCING himself to accept, because he can't really do so, which is later demonstrated in 'Sillage'. He keeps saying it affirmatively as if it was an order, you know? Then, sillage. Sillage signifies the degree to which a scent is in the air. The thing is that, despite all of this, he keeps regretting, lamenting the death of his love. A part of him accepted... another part will never forget. The scent of his love is still in the air, it cannot fade. This is not a tale of dragons. It is the tale of love, the most powerful and precious element in this universe. It's a bit cheesy, but whoever has been in love and grieved for that person will understand 100%.
It wasn't cheesy in the slightest. It was meaningful and inspiring, as it was meant to be. Element is also not referring to the periodic table. I mean, it doesn't say anywhere that it does. Element refers to an element of something, a part of something, an aspect of a creation, a piece of a whole.
