Our local grocery store brought in a local entrepeneur who made grocery totes. It has the wide sides as you do - - but, the depth is only 10.5 inches ... the finished size is actually as tall as it is wide by 14" long. The first one I bought was amazing! I ended up with a half case of Pepsi, most of my additional groceries PLUS a loaf of bread on top! It was amazing. everything was so well balanced, and it will last FOREVER! (or at least a very long time). I share all of this because your bag has inspired to buy more plastic/flannel-backed tablecloths and make my own a bag that has become part of every gift I give. I watched your first video of a REALLY BIG grocery tote (six rolls of paper towels nicely fitting into the bottom) which at my age was TOO big! But, very attractive ... what a fun and practical way to use "scrap" fabric (which I LOVE). You have given me a renewed enjoyment of being called the "bag lady" on so many levels. I receive a lot of understanding and motivation to use up my "stash" from your videos. Thank you for all of the encouragement you share (whether you know it or not
☀️ Hi Mary! It's so nice to hear your comments! I love that you're a fellow bag lady! I like playing around with various measurements, and definitely if someone needs a specific size, it's so easy to change up the bag! I can't wait to use up the other 3 pieces! As I make them, they usually "tell me" who they belong to! ❤️. Have a great day!
I’m guessing I am not alone in my suspicion of’easy binding’ methods. It’s never easy, for me. But. Inspired by your method I feel a little less daunted by the dreaded binding stage. Thanks so much for your calm, creative approach. I’m going to make friends with my IQP (aka Inner Quilt Police) soon. 😂
Hi Micki! One of my viewers suggested rather than bind just turn under the top edge and zig zag stitch it down, which would be super easy and still look good! As far as binding, it took me LOTS of practice to figure it out. If you want to practice, I suggest making a 12" quilt sandwich to keep it manageable. My rule of thumb, if you are not having fun, don't do it! Quilting should be fun! ☀️
Merci d'avoir regardé, Régine ! J'apprécie votre visite! J'en ai 3 de ce type dans ma voiture pour toutes mes sorties shopping ! J'aime quand quelqu'un le remarque et je dis "Je l'ai fait moi-même ! ~Annette.☀️
I have made several grocery totes after I watched your earlier video. They are fast, easy and fun to make. I will also use old sheets for the backing. I just toss the bags in the washing machine. Love your videos!
I like the idea of using the tablecloth. Adds some stability for those bags where you have heavier items to place in the bag. I think the Dollar Tree has some good size table cloths for $1.25. Just an idea If you were wanting to not add the binding you could serge or zig zag the edging and turn under a quarter inch then turn and just hem the top. Might mean adding a couple inches to the length of the bag but would save doing binding if that is a hic up for you. I have been wanting to get rid of my stash of bags that are just odds and ends making up a set of them to store in the car would be a great project for this winter. I could use one bag to store them all in and move to which ever rig I am in that day. Another great video to play with. Thanks
Great comment, Connie! I have 3 in my car and have given away several, which are usually very much appreciated! ☀️☀️☀️. I love making them. I don't mind doing the binding, especially since I have SO MUCH pre-made! But I think I will have to try just turning down the edge and see how I like it.
I wish I could sort scraps at warp speed too! Wonderful tote bag. Thank you for the tutorial.
Indeed, yes! Wouldn't warp speed be amazing!??? Thanks! and have a great day!☀️
Great idea.i have to try this.
You should! Have a nice day, Maureen!☀️
I never get tired of watching people make useful things out of scraps after all that is how quilting started!🥰
Right??? Me too!! ☀️☀️☀️
Yepper me 3😝❤️😀
Using the Laminated Side of the tablecloth for its being Waterproof (for wet groceries or juices) in a bag is BRILLIANT! Thank you!
You're very welcome, Karen! ☀️
I love watching any scrappy projects 🤩
Me too Lesley! Scraps can be so fun! ☀️☀️

Glad you like them, Lucila! ☀️
Great idea for using a tablecloth. I make my bags a little smaller as the older I get the less weight I can pick up. Thanks for sharing.
Great point Cynthia! Once you know the basic form for this type of bag, you can customize it! Thanks for watching! ☀️☀️☀️
Such a great idea using those tablecloths!
Thank you! 😊
Big thankyou wise words enjoy all your clever ideas

Great Bag ! Very please to have found your site on You Tube . Happy New Year ! Esther x
Thanks Esther! Glad you found it useful! Happy New Year to you as well. ☀️
Thank you so much for another great idea. Do you use any special rheead or needle since you are sewing vinyl?
Thanks for watching! No, I don't use a special needle or thread, but I should probably change my needle WAY more often than I do!! ☀️
☀️ Thanks for watching! ☀️
