this guy knows the watch market like it's written on his DNA; really enjoy listening to him. He's talking casually and extemporaneously without any notes, but a damn ocean of knowledge and experience on the watch market and a good head for the fundamental of micro-economics.
Thank you for the kind words, I actually tried scripting one of these episodes, one time and it never aired I would rather make mistakes but talk of the top of my head it just comes out naturally
If everyone stopped buying Rolex for a year or so, you will see the prices come down, this Rolex bubble is going to burst, I don't know when, but it will. Thanks for the video, it has good information on it. I did not realize how expensive the high-end pieces cost.
Come on! You know it's not the truth. Rolex will have the highest demand till infinity. It is the strongest brand in watchmaking FOR FUCKING EVER. Because it is the strongest brand. You can't change it. But you still can't like it. And you can buy Patek and Audemars. Rolex btw is not the only brand that makes profit. So no need to blame Rolex for making profit. Demand and supply, guys! Rolex is at the peak of the market. Live with it or lie to yourself. It's like blaming Apple or Amazon for making tons of profit. It's just the system. Hate the game, not the player.
and you think they only use their profit for real charity? Well, 100 million executive charity for the top management of rolex mabe...i think it is a common trick to register your company as a charity foundation...same like hiding your money in your companies and fall for bankruptcy...for not hav to pay charges of a law suit...
Hey Roman, amazing content as always thanks for the great advice on your video. The Rolex shortage is a nightmare, travelled all over the world from New York to Dubai and basically get laughed out of all of the Rolex AD, like you are going into a Rolex shop and asking for a hot dog! They look at you like you are crazy.........
Great vid but TBH Roman, the difference between a Day Date 2 (41mm) and a Day Date 40 is more than just 1mm. The DD40 has a new movement, it has a new bracelet build with Ceramic collars maintaining the screws straight to prevent the infamous stretch over time. Its a slightly thinner watch too and has articulated end links which helps with lug or end link flare.
Bryan Smith yeah I wince every time this guys knocks crowns to highly polished cases when he stacks them on his hand. Take a loupe to those watches and they’ll be marked up no doubt. Maybe people just aren’t as particular as I am.
I had 3 Rolex watches stolen. I have tried a dozen stores including the store I bought them and contracted Rolex in Geneva directly trying to get at least one replacement (I would take almost any steel sports watch) they all told me the same, waitlists closed, we can't help you. How can they advertise something they can't (or wont) deliver surely there are consumer protection laws against this ?
Rolex have upped their game with the new gen movements. For those interested in what’s under the hood there’s plenty online but just to add that the new gen 3235 in my DJ41 is phenomenal and has settled to +1/day worn regularly on the wrist compared with the tried and tested 3135 in my ceramic sub Date which returns +3/day. The difference in power reserve up from 48 to 70 is also incredible. So there you go, Rolex don’t expose their movements but you can’t get better quality engines at the price and the service interval is now 10 years with a 5 year manufacturer warranty. Apart from investment potential you’re getting rock solid engineering.
OMG my father had the same yellow gold DD with diamond indices - he was quite proud of it. You guys have the same taste in watches. If my dad was alive today, I bet he'd be all over those Royal Oaks. I have his DD these days, and I have not worn it out in public yet because I still don't feel very comfortable with its "presence" yet. My favorite watches are my JLC, GO, and Jaquet Droz. Yeah, quite different from my dad's taste.
I would never buy a watch from anyone that throws watches like that. Yes, to you they’re simply products to sell but that sort of treatment would really put any prospective buyer off.
Great video! You certainly tell it like it is where Rolex is and regarding supply and demand. I think buying preowned is the way to go as long as you know what you are getting. You will save $$$, depending on the Rolex model you want Nd it appears Grey Market Dealers have the supply when it comes to certain models. I bought my Datejust 41 last year from a Grey Market Dealer. And saved some money in the process.
I will like to also add. If you insure your watches you have to insure them at list price, so if you buy at a premium market price and lose the watch, or get robbed etc, what a great loss that would be!
Are you sure??? Let me take what you are saying to an extreme to show you that you must be wrong. If someone buys a Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph ref. 2499 they would only be able to ensure it for original price plus inflation and not current value??? And the same can be said of a Rolex Paul Newman Daytona. Of course not, you can ensure the value even if it doesn't correspond with the list price.
Some days i'm like... I want a 36mm rolex, its classic and sophisticated. Next day I look at it and i'm like....thats way too small... then I reverse and like the small one again.
Great episode, Roman. I wanted to learn more about Rolex models and prices and this was very helpful. Can you please do a similar episode on Patek? I recently got a 5712 steel (waited 3 years from an AD) and want to understand prices for other PP models. Thanks in advance and happy thanksgiving!
Wrong. Demand is up and it takes years to build a new facility to ramp up supply, even if they wanted to. Rolex did not create increase demand, China, India, and other countries did that.
“Vintage look.” I have observed old Rolexes that look pretty crappy and people boast about them being vintage and selling for a premium. To me they are ugly. I would not pay more money just because the white indices on the face have turned beige. Just my humble opinion.
You are not the only one that shares that opinion, a lot people dont buy into that either as some of it is Hype created by vintage watch dealers, but some people still want the beat up look that gives a watch that really vintage feel.
Hello Roman The New President bracelet is completely different Yes the ascetics are the same But No more rattlesnake It has solid end links and ceramic pins that deter stretch So the New President has a much better bracelet And I bought my Diamond dial President from my AD for a much higher price retail then you are quoting here. I also have the new Pepsi and it’s a much different watch then the vintage It has the Maxi case Stronger Lume and a 70 hour power reserve just to mention a few things. Also I have been offered over $20k for my Pepsi. But my watches will be passed on to my kids Never Sold Thank you for the vid
You are correct and I knew i was going to catch heat over not mentioning all the details, I try not to get into the nuts an bolts of watches but I hues i may have to in some cases, as far as the GMT I would sell it at 20 as you will be able to pick one up for 13-14 shortly as more of them hit the market.
Hi Roman, I don't disagree with your comments about supply and demand but, how about in the scenario with the Batman & the Hulk trading for 3-4K over dealer list. Is it a scam or a worthwhile investment to bet on the rumors that one of these models discontinues and then explodes more? Or is that just what Rolex wants us to think hence fuel demand?
I get so much from your content, thx. Do you think you might do a video on alternatives to the GMT, the Sub, etc? Seems like if we get more educated about other brands that are good value ( not get killed getting out of them) we would get a lot of valuable information.
Great post. Your truthfulness and insight are really appreciated. But I’m interested in buying a new white dial 41mm Datejust in steel/gold with smooth bezel and oyster bracelet....not exactly a “hot” piece but where are the discounts? I’m not seeing them.
Thank you for sharing. Q: where will be the best place to buy with financing. How can I break through in to the list of rolex of patek p. I am not a collector.! Iam 75 years old located in Jerusalem and look to buy to my son for his birthday on February. Yes I know he will end up on a waiting list. Iam saving every penny to buy my son a good watch.
Please excuse my ignorance but how is it that the grey market dealers get preference from the AD over the customers if the AD knows you will sell for double?
dhsilv2 agree. I watched a very detailed video on UA-cam where an expert metal worker melted down every piece of a Gold Rolex Presidential and when all was said and done he had about $500 worth of gold. Unbelievable. Gold Rolexes are really a ripoff. That’s my humble opinion.
Was thinking the EXACT same thing. I wouldn't buy one off him just because how he tosses them around...sounds OCD, but I don't like scratches on the inside of the watch...This guy is beating up the insides!
its just a fricking watch, its made to be used, have my BLNR gmt for a few years as my daily beater. but it still looks good. And i'm a mechanic who doesnt take of his watch during work
I dont like people banging around their watches like that...it shows how little respect they have for them...if he was a dealer I would walk away immediately
@@watchthereviewofficial Yeah, that's the point I was making. I know they get banged up when on the wrist but for someone selling them, you gotta keep them as crispy as possible and let the buyer bang and scratch them up. Eventually

Someone should make a watch out of all carbon fibre like they do with cars. It would be lighter than an empty coke can even with the last dribble poured out and stronger than solid gold.
The sound effects on opening the new and old Pepsi is SPOT ON!!!🤣

Awesome. As a Rolex collector, love the honest take on things from a grey dealer. Also love how you sling the watches around!
Hey Roman, amazing content as always thanks for the great advice on your video. I know, but the minute you ask them for an expensive watch like a pearl master and then a sub together, all the steel stuff comes out from the "back"
Diamond and Rubies was for the DDII, I have the 40mm Rose Gold Day Date with the Chocolate and baguette dial, the best combination, love it.
You got one of my favorites of all time.. Rose/chocolate are a match made in heaven 💓
Great vid but TBH Roman, the difference between a Day Date 2 (41mm) and a Day Date 40 is more than just 1mm. Yes I should have mentioned all that you are right.
Roman Sharf you're the man Roman 👍🏼
Roman's commentary in this video is just as true today in 2021 as it was in 2018.
Even it they were new, after you are finished clacking them together and throwing them down, they should be sold as pre-owned due to the scratches.
Bryan Smith yeah I wince every time this guys knocks crowns to highly polished cases when he stacks them on his hand. Take a loupe to those watches and they’ll be marked up no doubt. Maybe people just aren’t as particular as I am.
Appreciate the honesty in your videos. Happy thanksgiving.
Vinyl 72-RPM thank you and same to you
You spoke the truth more or less, but i don't like the way you drop the watches you are scratching the back of the case.
Agree.
It won't scratch.
That's a jewelry/watch box which has lot cushion.
@@danisheverblue he says the caseback. The cushion is irrelevant, it's the bracelet hitting the back of the case when dropped.
u treat those watches like they are seikos.... I believe they make an awful rattling sound as well...
super well said . i wrote my post before i read yours ,.,.
You have poor taste in music.
I had 3 Rolex watches stolen. that is pretty terrible I agree, but no law out there will make them produce more
Go to Miami you can get any of them. Many local jewellers or delears. Or purchase online.
Thoroughly enjoyed your direct style and amount of knowledge you have without the bs so many others babble on about.

With a personal policy you can actually insure for whatever value you choose to, I use Chubb for that and Lloyds of London

Dmitry Goldenberg great idea for an episode

I laughed at 11:01 when you said the functionality between the two GMTs is the same.
Because we keep buying them no matter how expensive they get!
Great video, thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks again Roman, intelligent and informative dissertation
The "shortage" is engineered by Rolex. This is an artificial scarcity, where only 30% of their AD allocated watches are steel sports.
Wrong. Demand is up and it takes years to build a new facility to ramp up supply, even if they wanted to. Rolex did not create increase demand, China, India, and other countries did that.
Another a very informative and enjoyable video. Happy Thanksgiving!

@Sam Kryptonite So a 36mm Platinum or a 41mm gold. Maybe go gold instead?
Great choice!

love this Chanel

Nice Roman, but what about the day date 40 rosegold olive dial, its a good moment to buy one of those?BEST Ian
ianus you can always get a deal on a president because of the relatively high retail but buy them pre owned
Please excuse my ignorance but how is it that the grey market dealers get preference from the AD over the customers if the AD knows you will sell for double?

thanks for your continuous support
Just got mine after a seven month wait! Sucks to be you guys! No more waiting for me! :)
Hey Roman...great video. So what is the market like for the 41mm DJs? Are there any discounts out there for the datejusts?
absolutly and if you go with a second hand watch you can save some money, call our office.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

What's your opinion on Sea Dwellers? Particularly the James Cameron? Good investment or no? Thanks for your content and information!
Really enjoy your videos.
Shoot, forgot all bout your video since there was a LEGO Movie for an add!!!
Jon lol
Daytona green dial is a winner and my question what do you think of the new GMT 2 white gold Pepsi with meteorite dial ?
awesome insight. ADs averaging the heavy and shitty-hitters. 37.5% margin period.
It's not "supply and demand" that's interesting; it's what is CAUSING the demand.
Platinum is all platinum through and through. 18 K gold is only about 60% actual gold, therein lies the difference.
75%. 18 carat is 75% of 24 carat. 14 carat is 58% of 24.
Yes, you are correct. I was thinking 14. But, he should know that don’t you think?
dhsilv2 agree. I watched a very detailed video on UA-cam where an expert metal worker melted down every piece of a Gold Rolex Presidential and when all was said and done he had about $500 worth of gold. Unbelievable. Gold Rolexes are really a ripoff. That’s my humble opinion.
Pls which video teaches retail value and resell value
I don't really know how to flip watches
It’s not supply and demand when people buy up the watches to resell them right away.
You treat your watches real rough 😩🤔
Not really it seems like it because of how his mics are set up,even when he sets his phone down it sounds like he slammed it

love this watches , hate they way he treat this excellent watches ...
what's your take on a rolex 41 rosegold ... chocolate or sunburst dial ?
christoffer pedersen def chocolate my favorite combo
Why am I waiting 12 mins to hear about the topic advertised. Also, Rolex aren’t cutting production, they’re just not increasing it to meet the demand
Thanks for the advice
Hey Roman...just found your channel! Best succinct explanation I heard on Rolex pricing and how grey market dealers get their stock. No wonder why I cant find a BLNR Batman at any AD’s.
Joe Giz thank you for watching
Can You tell me what companies give gold Rolexes for retirement in 2023.?
I like your explanation, that you get the watch now, but you pay the price just if you had bought this watch 10-12 years later.
great video roman
Thank you!
This was better than economics 101
if only my professor would see me now :-)
Great episode Roman, could you please talk about the platinum Daytona, I happen to prefer it to the platinum day date but I can’t figure out the real market price for it new and preowned (both variants). Also if I opt for one of these from an AD, do you think it would be possible to negotiate with them to sell me a steel Daytona with it?
Ahmed Helmi sure I can talk about that as well, and if you pay retail for a platinum Daytona they will gladly give you a steel one with it
Roman Sharf thank you Roman, but in that case it doesn't make s nse economically as the discount I can get on platinum Daytona (value wise) is larger than the steel Daytona premium in Grey market.
Where did you get all of those replicas. . .? I've been looking for a good one but don't want to pay over a hundred bucks. . .
Can u please talk about the two tone date just oyster perepetual is there any money in them I have a new one with Diamond dial
Hey Roman . Does Rolex make the DD platinum with a fluted bezel ?
If you look at this man talking your hunger for high end watches is immediately over.
Do you think most Pepsi buyers are just trying to flip? I was thinking of contacting all the ADs in Canada just for that reason lol
Negative Gains a lot of people do which is part of the problem as well
that vintage GMT is much prettier than the newer in my opinion ;)
Erjon Durres I tend to go for the vintage Rolex more myself
Rolex is King!
Great show, very interesting, 👍⌚️
Can you talk about rose and yg Daytona’s
sure
Why? Rolex is ramping down on production that’s why
simplyvl correct but then they slowly increase it as always they know the game been doing it for years
