  • Crawford Lake Conservation Area is a special place to visit near Milton, Ontario. The lake is a "meromictic" lake which means the layers of water do not intermix, unlike regular lakes that do! This just happened to be the second lake like this I've visited this past month however they are actually quite rare.
Another great thing about this conservation area is the replica "Iroquois village". A few decades ago, the remains of some indigenous longhouses were found here along with many pieces & items from the people who once occupied this land, long before settlers. A replica village has been created here to show us what it once may have looked like. Feel free to pause the video to read the information signs throughout the video.
Please note that I use the term "Iroquois" in quotation marks because although that is how the site is referred to, I have heard differing opinions as to whether it is still an acceptable name to use. Some accounts say the preferred name to go by is Haudenosaunee. If at some point I learn the best & most accurate identity of the people who would have occupied this land, I will update the description of this video accordingly. Thanks!
I have been coming to Crawford Lake for years & always enjoy my visit here :) Video taken on July 21, 2022.
