Hiking At Bronte Creek Provincial Park
Best viewed in 1080p.
Visited Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Friday afternoon & did some the hiking trails & explored what the day-use areas had to offer!
it's not quite regular hours for the season yet so the buildings were closed but during other times the Spruce Lane Farmhouse & Visitor Centres would be open for you to explore further.
I enjoyed the trails even if they are on the shorter side - but by doing all the ones I did in addition to walking around the grounds I managed to get in about 9km which I was happy with for the afternoon!

Warm Spring Day Walk At LaSalle Park ~ Burlington, Ontario
Переглядів 178Рік тому
Took advantage of the beautiful warm summer-like weather we had mid-April & went for a short hike/walk at LaSalle Park in Burlington. Part of the path leads through a gorgeous section of woods, then along the water for some nice views of Lake Ontario. Taken on April 13, 2023.
Visiting Algonquin Park Visitor Centre & Winter Hike At High Falls Trail
Переглядів 70Рік тому
After hiking the Spruce Bog trail (see previous video), we decided to swing by the visitor centre. A must-visit at least once! It's like a small museum complete with nature & history exhibits all about the park. This video shows a brief walk-through, but it's definitely best experienced in person! It was then getting late in the day & weather was dicey so we headed back to my family's house. De...
Spruce Bog Boardwalk Trail ~ Algonquin Park In Winter

Hiking the Spruce Bog Boardwalk Trail in winter 🌲❄️ We entered Algonquin Park via the east gate & followed Hwy 60 until we reached the trailhead. So much fresh snow made for absolutely beautiful conditions! The Spruce Bog trail is short & manageable for all capabilities. Despite the deep snow it was easy to walk due it being well traversed. Snow shoes were not needed. I'd love to return & do th...
Scenic Spots Along Backroads In Highlands East - Winter Wonderland

Here is another video from my winter trip up north. In this one we did some more backroad exploring around Highlands East in Ontario, Canada, finding scenic little gems along the way. Also included is an old "abandoned" farmhouse (I had permission to be on the property), would love to explore it further in the summer because the snow was just so deep. I still have a couple more videos to come f...
Hike-In & Shore Lunch On Frozen Lake ~ Haliburton Highlands Water Trails
Переглядів 70Рік тому
In this video a group of us headed to an access point along the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails route where we hiked into Cat Lake. Our original intent was to head across the ice to an island campsite but due to ice conditions we had to alter our plans. We found a decent spot along the shore to have a fire, cook some lunch & hangout! Taken January 28, 2023.
Haliburton Highlands In Winter ~ Snowy Pines & Backroads

I went up to my aunt & cousin's home in Haliburton Highlands to visit them & have some winter adventures. They live on a large property with lots of amazing forest. There had just been a fresh snowfall which made all the conifers just that much more beautiful! In this video we did some exploring in the woods around their property & headed down to the creek which passes through. Then we went for...
Taking The GO Train/Bus To Visit Family Up North

Just a few highlights of the trip from Burlington to Haliburton Highlands. I took the GO train from Burlington to Oshawa, then the GO bus from Oshawa to Peterborough, then met my cousin there & she drove us the rest of the way to her house in Haliburton Highlands. We were expecting a huge winter storm that day but luckily for the most part I stayed ahead of it. By the time we arrived it was def...
Hiking At Westfield Heritage Village

Visiting Westfield Heritage Village & Conservation Area for the first time. Located in Rockton, Ontario between Hamilton & Cambridge. I hiked the full loop & around the village which was approximately 6km according to my trail app. The buildings are not open on a daily basis save for special events but it's still pretty neat to see them all from the outside. The conservation area section is bea...
Late Fall Walk At Valens Lake Conservation Area
Переглядів 47Рік тому
Took advantage of the beautifully warm weather we had in early November to do the full hike around Valens Lake/Reservoir. The water was very low likely due to the time of year. Other times of year I've been here the water has been much much higher. I really liked the diversity of this trail! Taken November 2, 2022.

Hi I have watched it does look like a hidden gem. Did you see some more fungi? Those ponds were obviously from the quarry that used to be there. Did you get rained on? That is not fun. May I ask why do clothes smell after they get wet I have had this though I like it it is nice? Something to do with the water and fabric guess. Quarry ruins are interesting. Not many other people visited it as the same time as you did you see any other people? There were no structures in the old quarry ruins at all to go on like bridges or structures in the water ponds. I did enjoy and can see it would be a hidden gem. Thank you. Tristan

Yep I've been seeing fungi on almost every hike lately (I try to get out almost every day right now because it's my favourite season for hiking). I don't have the answer about the wet clothes smell lol 🤷‍♀️. There were some ruins near the quarry site but idk what they were exactly. But yeah it's a great spot & I don't often encounter many people there!

Hi It is like the fungi are a communication network like we are as humans like internet and such. There seems to be more going on under the earth than we realize. Do you often lift logs up to find the fungi? Is tree bark a fungi? I can't work out why they use this on gardens instead of soil in some places like public gardens or botanical gardens. Seen this a lot. Trees seem to be able to do a lot in nature. Thank you for your reply. Tristan

Hi You meant Fantastic Fungi? I am watching that at present it is interesting. It seems the whole woods are made from fungi. That's what's so different about the woods. So many fungi. Imagine what it must have been like in prehistoric times with fungi. It seems the woods are full of fungi this is why the woods is an amazing place. There is highly likely fungi under any log you pick up. When we go hiking, are we as humans hiking on fungi? Dirt don't think is fungi though could be wrong. Thank you for recommending the DOCO. Didn't think fungi were as prevalent as they are like underground. This is interesting. More aware of fungi now. I try not to eat fungi though blue vein cheese is fungi like the mold. Thanking you and thank you for replying to me. Tristan

Hi I am from New Zealand. Hyphae seems to be what the fungi come from just Googled it. There are lots of trails in NZ but being further away prevents me from exploring them. I wouldn't eat fungi don't eat mushrooms. Awesome you are interested in fungi. Fungi can grow on grass too. Do the fungi smell bad? In Canada, do you have any creatures like the UK does that causes molehills in grass? Must be tough to live with. That must be a massive trail network. Different distances for each trail guess. Thank you again. Tristan

    • @wanderingstar1111
      @wanderingstar1111 Рік тому

Yes hyphae are the tiny branches that make up the mycelium network. They grow underground & occasionally produce a fruiting body (a mushroom). The mycelium is like an apple tree underground & the mushrooms are the apples that fruit when conditions are good. Apples contain seeds to reproduce & mushrooms contain spores to reproduce. Many wild mushrooms & fungi are edible but I don't eat many of them as I'm still a bit of an amateur. Fungi can grow both from the ground & wood depending on the type. I definitely recommend the documentary "Fascinating Fungi". We do have groundhogs around here but I don't see them very often where I live!

Hi Good the trails seemed to go on forever. it must be a big network. Must be Autumn where you are. Did you have a storm during hike? Scary getting caught in one I have before more than once. I wonder how those fungi form guess moisture in the logs and foliage. Some of those are quite big. You said you liked them? The fungi are not edible? I am surprised the pond at the end didn't have a bridge across it. Was that a reservoir? Do you have bike paths in your area sometimes these are good to explore and hike on? Thanking you. Tristan

Hi Tristan, yes the Bruce Trail goes right through my area & there are many additional side trails that weave with the main one. Not sure where you are from but in Southern Ontario there's lots of conservation areas as well to enjoy. I did get a bit rained on at Robert Edmondson but nothing too crazy 🙂. Fungi grow from a mycelium network underground, many of them love feeding on dead wood! It's a fascinating subject to look into if you're interested. Thanks for watching & comments!

Good there seemed to be a lot of fungi on the logs. 2 lots of train tracks. That was a maze of trails would get lost how far did you go? There seemed to be ruins towards the end of some kind. Are you sacred of being along like animals and such? Interesting trails. Some trails may have old ruins on them in places. Would be interesting to see them. What is a GPS like a Fitbit or such? Do you upload every 2 weeks? Thank you. Tristan

Hi again Tristan, yes I'm always on the lookout for cool fungi :) on this occasion I hiked about 3.5-4km. I'm not too worried about animals in this area, we don't have bears or moose or anything like that but I do always carry a knife on me. GPS just being the navigational system on your phone, you can use an app like Google maps or AllTrails (more accurate for navigating trails). I don't have a timeline or schedule for uploading videos. I just film them when I feel like recording my hike :)
