BMW Gear Lever LED repair

- A common fault with modern BMW gear levers where the LEDs stop working or when Drive is selected it knocks the other LEDs off.
BMW only sell the full gear lever for £852 excluding fitting. They do not supply the faulty circuit board which is the only part needed for the repair. I bought a salvaged gear lever from Ebay for £33.00. Dismantled the salvaged gear lever and switched the circuit boards.
Great video and as a result I have sourced a replacement gear lever and fixed the very same problem on my 6 series which happened when I put it in reverse. BMW quoted me over £1000 for a whole new gear stick ignoring the costs to fit. Fixed mine for £80 thanks to your video 🎉

You can just replace non working LED with new one. And you can use probably any LED that fits on soldering points, even 2 pin. 4 soldering points are 1 LED plus(anode) and 3 GND. Solder 2 pin LED diagonally so you get it it in the center. On original LED there is a notch on one corner, this is LED -(kathode). On oposite site is LED +(anode).

Mileage around 39000 when it broke. Since replaced never had an issue.
Why dont you replace the circuit without having to remove the complete lever?
The lever from the car was never removed only the top trim pieces. The detached lever in the video was purchased from eBay.

It happened the same with my 220d, BMW wanted to charge me AUD 2,301.01 for repairing (replacing the gear selector)!!!
Hi david, thanks for this video. Question please, how did you stick the front panel back down please?
It was still a little sticky so just placed it back in. You could heat it up a little with a hair drier to make the glue stickier. I eventually bought a replacement top cover from ebay for a few pounds as I'd slightly scratched the old one.

I got the same issue but everything working except the D led it go off but rest leds on gear works fine any idea?

@@jaysheelbhujun any idea how to fix the D led ? Maybe put another led for D gear only? Or change the full gear board? From any f30 as a spare part or it gotta be from 340i as my car now
All the LEDs are on the same PCB board. They can be removed and new ones resouldered on but that's beyond my skill level. Much easier to buy a salvage gear stick from ebay and just replace the board as in vid
