  • This week I learned how to build a tornado of fire using simple tools and materials!
I got some good information for this project from here:

"For this project, we're going to need some PVC pipe."
That's basically your catchphrase. Love your videos.

LOL it's so true. I should change my channel slogan to "All PVC, All the time!" Thanks for the compliment.

Nice one, Rick! Makes you wonder what other ways you can shape fire.

Some simple chemicals in the fuel can help change the color of the flame. You did have nice color though. But a bit of table salt makes the typical blue (hard to see) alcohol flame become very yellow/orange. Some copper compounds make it green...

It's not a centrifical or centripetal force effect. You are inducing a artificial Coriolis effect.

Some thoughts I have. If the spinning screen is necessary, are the pvc posts necessary as well, b/c they have mass, or would a stable but smaller framework work as well?
Also, does the fire container need to spin, or could it have sat in the hole that was in your platform?
    Pretty neat though bud.

Thanks! These are good questions, though I don't know all of the answers. The PVC posts are not necessary, I just used them to help hold up the screen and keep it in place. You can use anything you want to hold up the screen. I believe that the screen is necessary, as that is what helps to create the difference in air temperature and pressure from the center of the tube to the outside edge. Your last questions about the fire container spinning is an interesting question. My first thought is that it needs to spin but with all of the rotating air... that may not actually be necessary. I might have to test this out just to see what happens.
