I'm just getting into the hobby .. seen so many setups .. but this tank has blown my mind. so natural looking! . the fish, the plants .. what a perfect mess ! cant wait to make something like this of my own. :)
Thank you. If you look at all my various set ups you'll notice a theme... plants of all sorts, usually working to produce maximum diversity of surface area and textures- then a bunch of nano fish. Usually 1 to 2 species breeding at the bottom , a mid water nano breeder and top water spawner or live bearer in all tanks over 20 gallons.
buce can, has, and does grow in the substrate in the wild, as well as rooting and covering rocks by rooting in moss on rocks, and anywhere it can anchor itself. if you bury the rhizome it will die. if you bury roots, but keep the rhizome above, t will be okay. i have 2 species i have rooting into the soil and they are getting some leaves fast. im not using normal substrates or any known method tho. i have used a mix of different things.
Haha ill have to show all the trimmings im saving up on a rack i got from Han over at han Aquatics....its like a spare grid for half a cm to 2 cm rhizome bits
I've only got three different variants myself. They are nearly identical in care needs for Annubias. Infact mine are at the bottom of my tank and get low light. So far 4 months in all are doing fine, growing and I have split them into approximately 9 individual plants from the rhizome. Patients is an absolute must!
Buce truely is bullet proof. I had some catch bba a few months back so I put it in a cup. that rhizome survived in a styrofoam cup with only ambient light for well over a month before I decided to try and revive it.
they are called panda loaches and i have a couple videos on them....anything labled my "rimless hillstream tank" or "panda loaches"- has info and more shots of these wonderful fish. thanks for watching!
Hello Alex I just ordered some Bucephalandra Belindae and some other plants for my 35 gallon tank, I can see what looks like an arrowhead plant, milk confetti syngonium I think, I would just like to confirm that is the plant you have because I happen to be growing it as a houseplant and wanted to know if I could convert it to be aquatic like yours
Yes indeed...all of buce species other than (debatably,) the skeleton king, lines . Dont do well without pressurized co2 , fertz and very strong light...oddly
Yes if the plant didn't start with some leaves in the air, it stays covered until the seeds mature and drop into the water. Where as, if it's above water, it's flowers open to pollinate one another and sexually reproduce rather than vegetatively (it may be a different term for under water, which I don't remember honestly) reproduce.
nice tank just got a bunch of these unfortunately the specimens I received were really ragged so I have most of them floating free hoping they will recover
Yes...if you use LED flowering range... light pinks and red (640 to 680 nm of light) you get fruiting, but in other than a blip of chance flowering at like 340-380nm in green to yellowish spectrum....the other ranges all promote vegetative growth.
It's more of a gasoline or abalone shell type color. The little reflective specks are light and dark blueish under bright lights but yes- your observation is accurate.
Hey Alexander! Nice one. I'm in Singapore on business so I signed in and was greeted by a new video. Awesome stuff. I need to get some Buce myself for the new cube I'm setting up when I get back to Seattle. Know where I can get some locally? Does Steve sell it? Will be back in about 5 days so I may see you down there if he's got any.
oh rad... if your allowed to singapore has TONS of Buce... like its the #3 trading hub for buce and #1 for tropical fish farming. perhaps a rhizome and non-leafed or flowering cutting could be bought...even wholesale there... I know online ive looked with my buddies wholesale license and seen it for less than a dollar a plant for 40 or more (which is like 1-4 buce plants here haha). However steve at Zen has wavy green, red godzilla, red mini, and singtang in cultures or farm cuts latelt... I also may have a plant or two of rarer stuff if you want also, a few of my plants need splitting up because theyve basically maxed out in their space. let steve know you saw my video and maybe he'll hook you up with a private collection piece in his display tanks (hes pretty selective about that however. All this said, hes who i have found some rarer buce from- when i say ill name drop his channel and also pay silly amounts for it. safe travels my friend!
@@Fishtory Wow, awesome information man, as always -- thanks for that super kind offer as well. Let me see what I can dig up here. There's this area around Clementi Avenue that's got four fish stores all in the same tiny area and one of them is even open 24/7 -- No more unanswered fish emergencies! Hopefully I can pick up some specimens, especially more rare ones... I'll let you know what I find out soon! Thanks again and keep up the awesome content, buddy!!
It looks like you have some string algae but no annoying BBA or green spot algae on the Buce. Are you doing anything to prevent algae from growing on those slow growing Buce plants?

a great plant

Very good advice..🎉
One of my absolute favorite top plants.
What is the black and white fish? I love it!
Panda loaches :) they're my favorites.
I’ve started to grown this beautiful plant
Rewatch this again as I’m bucephandra crazy. 🤘
Haha ill have to show all the trimmings im saving up on a rack i got from Han over at han Aquatics....its like a spare grid for half a cm to 2 cm rhizome bits
The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium, nice. I’m putting together a buce nano scape slowly 😆

I enjoyed the vid and the info on the plant. Thanks for making my day more enjoyable. The blue guppy with the root in its mouth was funny to watch.
haha no problem buddy... That silly guppy. I actually had to feel him 2 HOURS LATER to get him to give up, spit it out and go for a pellet
love this tank
Thank you kindly
Learned a lot! Can't wait for this year's black Friday sale 🙌
Yes! Ill be announcing codes soon!
What are the long red plants?
I have some 'small leafed' Buce, from lfs. It does great in the Rainbow Tank. No blooms, yet. Thanks Alex.
it's almost opened already, I'll do an update when it opens fully!
Buce truely is bullet proof. I had some catch bba a few months back so I put it in a cup. that rhizome survived in a styrofoam cup with only ambient light for well over a month before I decided to try and revive it.
Yup they live in streams on rocks for dry seasons and wet
Great info. Thank you for sharing! - Little Bobby
New to the aquariums, have never seen those plants. Great tank
There are thousands of plants to see out there! These are really fun though
Thanks for the update! I almost ordered one the other day.
if you havent tried the codes yet, check the description for discount codes at flipaquatics.com, or aquaticarts.com
What are those striped little fish, moving over the grey rocks? I want one!
panda loaches...check out my video on them from a few weeks ago for info and more filming
they are called panda loaches and i have a couple videos on them....anything labled my "rimless hillstream tank" or "panda loaches"- has info and more shots of these wonderful fish. thanks for watching!
Great vid! What is the name of the fish with the blue stripe featured at 3:31 ?
Thanks. It's a neon green/blue rasbora sundadanio axelrodi

What kind of plant you got between the rocks Red one?
What are those little blacj and white fishes?!
Panda loaches :)
great video! By the way, do you know the name of the red/black plant at 2:29?
Crypt spiralis red tiger i think
@@Fishtory thanks!
Really nice tank. What are the black and white Gobies?
Panda loaches :)
Abt the buce white flower, i see yours is still fully covered. Mine is open then shed. Is it normal?
Yes if the plant didn't start with some leaves in the air, it stays covered until the seeds mature and drop into the water. good luck! keep them well oxygenated and lots of water changes
xisotopex how are they doing? I have found that free floating them whether new or struggling is the best way go!
Hey buddy awsome tank...are those her Pseudomugil Gertrudae
You nailed it! Yep
What is that crypt in there?
Its probably a nurri rosen maiden or crypt red tiger spirals
The greek pronunciation is more like "k",as there is no "ch" sound in the word "kephalé-κεφαλή"(=head).
Thanks for the video!
What the thin dark red? Almost looks like a crypt
Yeah i think you're seeing cryptocoryne spiralis tiger red.
I knew someone else would notice that. Came down here searching for ya! ty
Btw guy, I have some buce brownie ghost. Original. Also some marble variegated
Oh man... I'd be so happy to get my hands on that! I probably cant afford it, but I'm curious what your price is?
I have found quick compact growth without flowers. Perhaps my spectrum has induced a vegetative stage of life cycle?
Yes...if you use LED flowering range... light pinks and red (640 to 680 nm of light) you get fruiting, but in other than a blip of chance flowering at like 340-380nm in green to yellowish spectrum....the other ranges all promote vegetative growth.
Idk if its my screen but the arrogant blue buce doesnt look very blue, does it become more blue over time?
It's more of a gasoline or abalone shell type color. The little reflective specks are light and dark blueish under bright lights but yes- your observation is accurate.

In your experience, what kind of buce is the bluest?
A line I had called "Blue Meanie" or any of the ones that look black in the photos, often they have sparkles that look very blue
Also there is one called Achilles Heel that comes in blue and red strains, which is pretty blue as well
Oh wow. Like the yellow submarine! "The blue meanies are coming" that's too cool. I'ma look into those, thank you!!
Are those panda Garra?
Panda loaches
hi buddy, very useful info...
I LOVE BUCE'S.... Especially the GODZILLA
Indeeeeeed!
Beatfull black and white fish!!!
Whats the name of that specie?

What's the darker red plant right behind the flowering buce?
That is red tiger cryptocoryne spiralis: ) one of my favorites
you have nice voice
Well thank you very kindly!
The buce is on the loose
