- Lockheed Martin and Orbex are investing in space launch operations and bringing innovative new technology to Britain.
Under the plans, Lockheed Martin and Orbex will launch rockets into space from the north coast of Scotland.
Business Secretary Greg Clark said:
“As a nation of innovators and entrepreneurs, we want Britain to be the first place in mainland Europe to launch satellites as part of our Industrial Strategy. The UK’s thriving space industry, research community and aerospace supply chain put the UK in a leading position to develop both vertical and horizontal launch sites."

I don't care how big the rockets are or how often they launch I'm just so happy were getting a space port :,)
Same
Space port suckers. It was a scam. Where's the money gone. I can't believe that you fell for this nonsense.
Ginger Hitler same,I would love to become one of the first British doctors in space once I finish my gcse a levels and medical school
Mer Ahmed you go for it man, don’t give up because that makes you like the rest of us. Ambitions make you who you are
Revolution Now wrong
I think we as a country need to be more ambitious with this
I'm assuming all rockets have a tea holder
Well aye! Where else wid we put our cups eh tea?
Yay I may not have to become an American citizen to work on space stuff
America has got lots of its space tech from foreign citizens working in NASA, there's thousands of non Americans helping USA space industry.
It already is a scandal that it has to be like this.
There is a space industry in the uk already, lots of pay loads and ESA contributions are build in the uk. Thales, Airbus, Leonardo, Clyde space, bae all build space craft and there’s a supply chain around them
I would have thought that an equatorial launch site, such as the British Virgin Islands or Montserrat would have been a better choice than Scotland.
Far too windy in Scotland if you ask me.
Agreed
It makes me wonder, perhaps they want it on the British mainland for a reason. A remote part of Scotland will give a secure, private location. From which military launches can be conducted.
There are already launch zones in Cornwall.
Ascension Island would be a lot better.
Thought the best place for a launch site would be SW England like in Cornwall. 3 places known to be a perfect launch site, Predannack Airfield(Old sat station), RAF St. Mawgan(Dis-used Dummy deck and fire site) or RAF / USAF Davidstow(Dis-used Coastal Command Airfield).
Will Come and look up to this thing! Finally a space port in Europe!
Clank 4-5 mate 4-5
@@tripleb5245 4-5 what?
Maks yes
Clank no space port in England not Europe
@@louisbeerreviews8964 It's in Scotland, not England.
God speed old chaps
The new flag design actually looks pretty good. A 'little retro' but still works.
Can't wait to take my nephew to see a live rocket launch! (*.*)
Space port suckers. It was a scam. Where's the money gone. I can't believe that you fell for this nonsense.
It's time to colonise space!
I'd prefer to start production concerning immortality when the Mars dome is situated
I hope this happens would love to be able to go watch rockets launch!
@joe caterman Space port suckers. It was a scam. Where's the money gone. I can't believe that you fell for this nonsense.
@@revolutionnow2474 It says that 1st launches will be no earlier than 2021. Takes them some time to build it tho.
Revolution Now u what mate it’s coming in the next few years
World Domination the electron rocket might be used there
Cool intro music 🇬🇧✌👍
Nice, I am not even British or from any commonwealth but I always wished why didn’t the UK start their own space program. It would have been great to see United States compete with an actual western power, especially since this would have been a friendly rivalry.
Smoke me a kippa. I’ll be back for breakfast!
R.Rimmer (ACE)
There's a space door between every nebula
Orbes look similar to electron
We need a piece of homosapien folucule for nether space travel
Do u know if the rockets will be reusable?
LaunchUK!!!
This rocket looks like Rocket labs 'Electron' rocket.
⁉️ TIMESPACE & Time Mechanics solved the theory of everything. ✔️ any challenge welcome.
We were the ones who made nasa nasa by giving them all the info we need we are britain we are the UK SPACE AGENCY
Nasa was made by the cheerful scientists of project paperclip, us british are just always so eager to brag. we made a habit of giving away our new research and theories while being left behind by lack of funding, really is the british way.
Aaron Blyth nasa was really done by the Germans/Nazis at the time
It was German scientists who made nasa nasa
I would just buy some SpaceX seats
Shame that there isn't one in england
Nowhere to build one sadly.
@@weekiely1233isle of white?
@@jboydayz nope. No way to launch before running into land and cities.
Engine tests have happened on the Isle of Wight but never a launch. I’m
@@weekiely1233 oh okay, what about the remote islands up brother of scotland, shetland?
@@jboydayz there’s two being built in Scotland. One on Shetland and the other in Sutherland.
The Sutherland one will be used by a company called orbex which is fully UK based. Their rocket (prime) runs on bio fuels so it will be quite good sustainably
And the one on the shetlands will be used by Lockheed Martin and Skyrora. Skyrora is also a Uk company and their rocket (skyrora XL) runs on Keroscene and Hydrogen Peroxide.
Both will offer small sat services to polar orbits.
You should grab all the steel from redcar , help yourselves lets do this come on Britain lets go baby !!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
UK SPACE PORTS WITHOUT ROCKETS.. YEAH GREAT JOB
UK SPACE AGENCY..
*orbex*
Remember the blue streak?
Electron rocket with a different logo
That's an electron rocket with a British flag over the rocket symbol...
Its ABS rocket
America has one, Russia has one. Egypt, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan all have one. Even India, Indonesia, China and Pakistan have one. Why can't we?
We can.
I dream of the day that we could hold our children in our arms as they look in starry-eyed wonder at the blazing machine powering its way through the atmosphere and finally say, "we built that; it's ours!"
lol
Yeah, one day
@Bessie Hillum Well said!
fucking good luck to them think big!
UKSA launch site... coming soon to a farmers field near you
*Scottish spacey port.
Oh Look kids - Spacey Mac Space - Face! Don't worry it'll get picked up by "Of course we're still open sir" - recovery ship - that looks like a floating pub.
Sir Richard Branson of Virgin is British he should reestablish his space travel company here in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 obviously with some decent tax breaks.
Nicola Sturgeon blocks spaceport in scotland as it interferes with her new campaign on independence...
Scotland we have a problem
Funnily enough Houston is a Scottish clan name 😊
First. Also cool
Get to stuffed, no way this is going ahead we’ll wreck it.
Lockheed Martin?? Not exactly British is it...
We can barely afford an aircraft carrier. Not forgetting it was built taking short cuts and not going for the top capability product. And we think we'll be able to afford a space programme /dept/force like the US.
I can already see the duct tape holding the shuttle together.
DAYAN POZO yeah but it’s just the launch facilities, private companies launch the rockets.
SucculentMoosey why would they launch their rockets from Scotland. It’s always raining
Yeah, imagine the UK launching satellites. Outrageous arrogance!
Oh yeah, except for the fact 29% of all satellites are launched by UK firms and we launch more small satellites than and other country, including the US, Russia and China. Oh and also that these sites will have commerical uses and generate money for the UK economy.
If Japan or Germany was doing this you'd likely say it's proof of how forward-looking they are.
The QE class carriers are not as effective as the American Ford class but so what? We paid less. If we'd paid more you'd have moaned about that too.
What they said. I did hear Goonhilly downs was a proposed site, and the Lizard peninsula in Devon/Cornwall area. There's already a disused airstrip and ideal location, with low light pollution, if that's an issue?
The second space port will be in Cornwall for the horizontal flights, coming from the likes of Virgin Galactic I suppose and the British Skylon spaceplane when it becomes operational, looking good for the future!
