The biggest mistake i made when getting back in shape was allowing myself sugar and bakery as long as I don't go over my calorie targets. It ended with 2 month long binge that wiped out half my total weight loss. This time I'm making staying away from my drugs of choice a priority, and everything else - marcos micros, calorie counting and exercise - comes second.

I'm two weeks in and already feeling better about how I deal with food. I went grocery shopping last night and at my Trader Joe's, bread is the second thing you see when you walk in after the flowers. I felt good about walking past it and focusing on the fruits and vegetables. Your honesty is inspiring.

Wow, this is such a powerful distinction! I've spend the great majority of my life turning to food to deal, yet most of my focus has been on white knuckling my food plan instead of really throwing myself into the part about learning how to live my live turning to other wholesome means of dealing with life instead of food... Letting that sink in and focusing in on that area that will really help me keep things in perspective. Not to take away from the number of days I've kept my lines bright! But to know that I've get a lifetime of learning how to stay present and deal with life rather than checking and numbing out with food.

I remember the first time I tried the program back in 2018. I began clearing out my closets of Not My Food, and noticed my refrigerator was also alot less stockpiled.
While I have gone off program over the past year at times - and back again. IT wasn't because the program didn't work for me. I really needed to hear this today. I've made some recent changes to my life over the past six months - New home, new state, new congregation 🙂 But I sure didn't want to bring an old way of thinking with me! Thank you for this insight from the past. I totally get what you are saying - and my Way will be Bright and Truthful.
I'm signing up for a Refresher. PS - I lost 40 lbs back in 2018, and gained back about 10 during Covid years. Thank you for your continued Support Susan B Thompson & wonderful videos.

Thanks Susan, you have a very charismatic and loving energy. I am clean and sober for 24 years and off nicoteen for 10. Sugar and flour was my first addiction as a child and the last one I'm having to deal with. 9 weeks is my longest period of abstinence over last two years and that was with a 12 step programme. I listened to BLE audio book recently and got 5 weeks. Went back to eating NMF, just can't seem to surrender. I'm a 7 on SS, probably a conservative estimate, my wife thinks it may be more like 9,lol. Deep childhood trauma slowly being released, very painful and draws me back to comfort eating. I must try and stay abstinent long enough to process these feelings and heal, that's the trick. What I noticed this latest binge, was any joy out of gorging on. NMF had gone, maybe I'm ready, I don't know. About to start BLE again, buying the cook book, gonna try and prep meals and make food interesting and try and commit to food plan without straying. ODAAT. Love and light.

I am at the place where I am two months in and have lost 31 labs and 6 inches off my tummy. Susan is so right. You come to a place where you can walk into a grocery story and keep saying that is not my food. You start a journey that has you hunting for "the right food" that will not make you loose what have gained.Today someone offered a freshly baked loaf to both Helen and I . At the same time we said...."No thanks....it is not on our diet." Best today was my wife telling me my pants look awful on me as I have lost so much. Susan I need you to address the fact that it is possible to drink toooo much water.. Six to eight litres a day was too much and I was washing out my sodium, magnesium, and potassium. My vision started to blurr. Now I have balanced the water intake and the weight is starting to come off.

I started sugar and flour free on the 26th of may and gave up last week. I think it was affecting me mentally . A kind of fatigue and a kind of discontent. Im already a thin person with hashimotos. The good thing about it was that bread and chocolate didnt control me anymore. I could be in town and not HAVE to have something.

I've been 5 years without flour... well, grain flour.
I've heard you speak about grain and legume flour, but what do you say about other "flours" like Casava, Almond, or Coconut flours? Do they work in your body/brain like wheat flour? Because they have been life-changing for me since I can't have grains.

Hi Heidi! The Bright Line for flour includes all flour. It is not the ingredient, but rather the process of grinding and refining the ingredient into its finest form that triggers the addictive reaction in the brain.

If you notice professional speakers, politicians, world leaders, experts, motivational speakers, philosophers, they don't use Ummmm's or hand gestures for every syllable. Think about taking a college course in public speaking and it will enhance your message. Hand gestures are distracting, the same as using Ummmms.

Hi, Indy D! Have you read the Bright Line Eating book or watched the Food Freedom Video Series? You can find the Video Series here: ble.life/t00j
You may not ever feel entirely ready to give up sugar, it's a big ask, but it isn't nearly as big as your brain thinks it is on this side of the decision. It's like jumping into a cold lake. In your mind, it's going to be terribly cold and miserable and you build it up to be a major thing, but once you jump in, it feels pretty great, and within a few minutes you begin shouting to others, "It feels good once you get in. Jump in, the water isn't as cold as you think." 🌊

Gorgeous lady and interesting. To break a habit it takes 66 days to change the brain pathways. But I have to admit, when you have to count hours and days that means you feel deprived as though you are sacrificing and feel cheated. Instead, you are making the decision to be better and living a healthy lifestyle. I think we need to commit to a life we see ourselves living--that 101 philosophy has gone to the wayside in American society.

Hi Adam! Thanks so much for your message. We'd love to tell you more about Bright Line Eating!
Bright Line Eating (BLE) is a scientifically grounded program that teaches you a simple process for getting your brain on board so you can finally live free from food obsession.
The core principles of BLE are Bright Lines-clear, unambiguous boundaries we don’t cross just like a non-smoker doesn’t smoke, no matter what. The four Bright Lines are: Sugar, Flour, Meals, and Quantities.
There is also a book called Bright Line Eating: The Science of Living Happy, Thin, and Free by Susan Peirce Thompson, PhD. You can learn more about the book here: brightlineeating.com/book/
We also offer online support and coaching through our Boot Camp course and Bright Lifer Membership here: ble.life/y7woif
We invite you to take our 5-question quiz to find out where you fall on the scale of food addiction. You can take it now right here: ble.life/WELrvi
Those are some great places to start! Let us know if you have any other questions we can help you with! 🧡
