@@saul8633I went cold turkey too. I felt so hopeless also in those earlier months but think about all the damage we have done to our brains. Excellent Video, Tim!!!💙 This is the Best Video that I’ve ever seen explaining Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. Thank you so Much! Shared to all my Recovery groups.😎♥️✌️
You are so correct brother. Everything our body does is by rhythm, just like the rest of nature. So like you said, the duration of PAWS is in part due to the duration and we spent using, it’s like a shortened shadow of the use. But our withdrawal off drugs and toward homeostasis is in a rhythm as well, it can seem like a rollercoaster at times, but it’s essentially a sine wave that gradually smoothens out over time. It’s as if our brains and bodies are over correcting again and again until we find continuous homeostasis again. The amount of acute withdrawal seems to depend on the duration and severity of the addiction; which then corresponds to the amount the body over corrects into pink cloud syndrome, which then relates to how deep we go back into PAWS, which happens over and over, in windows and waves until we’re finally just resting comfortably along the center line of the graph again. I like to imagine a sine wave on a graph, the center line is homeostasis, and each dip and rise above this line equates to the amount of pink cloud and PAWS we experience until the wave smoothens out back into the middle. And again, it seems to be irregular and different for everyone, but this tends to be the way of withdrawing - a period of hell followed by natural highs followed by discomfort until true homeostasis is achieved. Great video, though, great advice. Exercise and diet are tops.
Hey thank you for this , really helped. Is there any chance that you can tell me why some days are so bad and some days i feel like im completely fine again. I drank a lot for a year like almost every 2nd or 3rd day at parties. I have been sober for 4 months feel better now but some days i get very anxious for no reason
the internal temperture regulator is the first thing to fix itself. the real monster is not the first few weeks, its the months and possibly years of severe depression and lack of happiness. humans dont do well with no sense of happiness for long periods.. magnesium citrate helps for constipation. homemade lemonade made with stevia is a good cell flush.
Thank you for this video Tim. The Everything you said is 1000% percent right at least to me . I was at half of a half of 1mg for 6 weeks. I could go up to 60 hours with nothing . I’d take just crumbs and then dust . I couldn’t taper any lower . Yesterday it hit me . It’s PAWS. I made myself go grocery shopping , mostly for the exercise. My Gastrointestinal pain was a big .problem . Everything I was eating and drinking , was everything on the list of foods to avoid while detoxing from Suboxone. Mid morning was what I couldn’t get past . So now I’ve Stopped drinking coffee and Gingerale. I’m sticking eating and drinking the foods and things that Mother Nature suggests and it really helped . 🇨🇦👋
I've binged watched your videos and fell in love with your channel. Years of abusing oxycodone and more recently tramadol and on my 6th day of detoxification became so depressed I truly truly made plans for suicide. But after watching your videos I now understand the scientific aspects of it all. I hope you know that you are saving lives and Ryan is looking down on you smiling.
Thank you Zen i truly appreciate your kind words. Stay strong my friend and hold on you are doing a truly great and brave thing. Good luck and much love
For me it's not so much the psychological. Its still physical withdrawals. Its been over 3 months and my stomach, digestion, and low energy is unbearable at times. Lost of appetite, and sleeping problems at times. I used methadone for so many years. I eat very healthy and take vitamins and minerals supplements and still am not feeling better. I even take Milk Thistle for my liver and probiotics. And I still feel crappy. Oh well...it's going to take a year for me I think.
I had been on benzos and some antidepressant med that also treats seizures for many (10) yrs. and when I was quickly taken off of these in rehab is when I started having seizures and other problems. I’m up in the middle of the night now, and reaching for one of your videos for inspiration.
I'm having a crappy day. light headed and just feel like I'm gonna pass out. Not to mention stomach ache. it's on and off. Right now i just feel stomach ache, chest and abdominal tightness and feeling of a panic attack but not really. It's minor then what it was during the first few months. But damn! The feeling of it is still scary. It just sucks man. Tired of it. I'm over 7 months sober from alcohol. Some days are better than others.
hello I hope you are fine. also alcoholic. 14 months clean. At the beginning I replaced the alcohol with sugar which is a bad idea. against the PAWS, it helped me a lot to stop it. I deleted about 90 percent. no more sugar excesses. I think it helps against the mood swings. Sport in the fresh air is also helpful. I definitely do not feel worse after a workout than before ... stay tuned, it can only get better!
Great video my friend. I’m currently battling with substance abuse problems, and am currently on day 5 of withdrawal. I feel I’m through the acute stage, but the anxiety and sense of hopelessness is crippling. The fact I have 2 daughters and a job I can’t really walk away from has helped me grind through the first 5 days. Granted it’s been hell, but I’m not dead so I continue to push on. This video was very refreshing and comforting. I think being in nature and replacing deadly habits with healthy ones will be the ultimate key. Thanks again and I’ll continue to follow you going forward... 🙏🙏
Bloody hell! I ve seen a lot of videos on paws but his one is the best for me. I’m 5.5 months off subutex and am struggling psychologically, can’t get motivated and it seems to have happened in the last two to three weeks since getting out of rehab. What you are saying makes sense, I’ve been procrastinating and been trying to fight paws by just gritting my teeth, stubbornness basically.
Thanks for the info I'm 3 weeks into tramadol withdrawal iv been taking 20 or 30 a day for about 3 years to be honest I'm really struggling but I'm not gonna let this beat me the depression and anxiety are really hard to get past at the minute but I'm in this for the long hall keep up the good work
Thanks for this video.... I’m just started coming off a fourteen year addiction to opiates. My doctor is weening me off I’ll be down to one pill a day in two weeks then two weeks on half a pill. Hopefully I won’t have the PAWS for too long.....but I’m highly motivated.....nothing will stop me from conquering this terrible affliction.
the opiates caused brain damage, in the fact your brain stops making certain chemicals.. the doctors who prescribed this to u for 14 years should be hung!
Thank you for you’re video. I have to set something straight. People can get paws from using an antidepressant or Benzo for only a couple of weeks and suffer ( recovery) for years. Eventually everybody heals. Even people that cannot move or run or eat right. It’s all waiting for that homeostasis ❤
Hi tim I watch all your videos thanks I've been of subutex for 3 months now and im still getting morning anxiety and depression I've yet to have a good day.im all so on duloxetine that ive been on for about 5 years.i was on the subutex for around 7 years.im getting out as much as I can long walks etc it's just making me really frustrated and adding to my anxiety.
Sorry to hear that my friend, but you were on subs for a long time. It will take your body and mind longer to heal.Keep doing the right things ,clean diet, supplements, exercise, meditation and breathing and i promise itwill slowly get better. Good luck and much love
Hi Tim, thank you for this video. I am a 57 year old woman coming off hydrocodone for pain management after 2 years. I am having a hell of a time with w/d and paws. I have been so sick for over a month - nausea, insomnia and horrible anxiety. I really hope it's not too late in life for me to recover. I am a generally healthy person but this adjustment has been horrendous.
@@TimJohnsonrecovery. Hey Tim, great videos. Just so you know, you keep faith for us to not give up and jump back. One question for you, did you have anxiety issues when you first quit? Im coming on 3 weeks of being clean from 9 month of hydrocodone at 20mg a day and the anxiety is rough but I don’t want to take anything for it. I would just like to know if it was an issue you dealt with. Thanks!
@@drewstoica3537 Hi Drew great job on getting clean 🙏 Yes I had bad anxiety for a long time . There are lots of videos on here about how I dealt with it . And the Wim hof breathing and cold immersion helped it tremendously and I still do that daily! Good luck my friend. Look after your diet, micro biome , exercise daily and you will get it under control in time !
I feel like been fighting paws forever and have ran out of patience , can be the kratom i still take ,idk but if i dont take it i wont get out of bed and get severly depressed and irritable .taking a K break this summer so hope that helps heal my receptors 🙏. Great video my friend
Dear Tim! Your video gives so much hope. Among others I suffer from rebound insomnia after use of antidepressants. It is with me since weeks and I'm afraid it never goes away. What is your estimate, when can this get better?
Thank you for the encouraging words. Im approx 14 days without Kratom and now I cant sleep short of taking otc sleep aid. Its not the most restorative sleep but Ill take it. It does leave me groggy and not me best self. I wish I knew of a way to help my brain start making the chemicals I need to fall asleep. Do you have any nootropics that could help?
Tim. I am 6 weeks into PAWS as a result of using Tramadol for 12 years. The anxiety is debilitating. Your video is a thorough explanation of what to expect. Although it is the last thing I wanted to hear, it's spot on from your experience. In this video you bring up antidepressants. With my lack of serotonin and dopamine would going on a SSRI help or delay my journey towards homeostasis? My state of mind is not good. I haven't slept more than 4 to 5 hours per night and the uncomfortable anxiety is debilitating. My MD did put me on Buspar for the anxiety but I'm really sure if that even helps or stunts my PAWS. Any insight would be much appreciated.
The thing with ssri drugs is they don’t increase the amount of Serotonin you have they just ration it’s use so you have a small constant supply! I know it’s hard and takes time but look at natural ways like diet and your micro biome . Serotonin is made in the gut so pre and probiotics are really important! I increased my dopamine with daily exercise ( even though you may not feel like it) and cold showers/ and breathing exercises. Look at Andrew Hubermans videos on you tube re dopamine. Ssri drugs are a sticking plaster but won’t solve paws and will create another issue ie coming off ! Stick at it my friend I promise it will get better 🙏🏼 Good luck
@@TimJohnsonrecovery Thank you for responding Tim. I've been so despite thinking I can not sustain this feeling longterm. This is the worst thing by far that I've ever encountered. I am going to try acupuncture in 3 weeks. A friend swear by it but I'm skeptical. Last thing question for your advice. The Buspar. Will it work once I get a blood level? It states it treats anxiety by balancing the levels of dopamine and serotonin in your brain, but I have none in my brain correct? Also it has something to do with noradrenaline...to me thats a stimulant???? Thanks for your time. Your video are so much more informative than any medical video I've seen. Take care.
Buspar is an alternative to diazepam for anxiety! It works differently ie diazepam works on GABA and Buspar binds to serotonin receptors. It’s normally takes 3 or 4 weeks to kick in ! You will be making serotonin and dopamine now after 6 weeks of stopping Tramadol but won’t be back to normal I shouldn’t think after a long period on opiates ! Buspar works also on your nervous system, slows heart rate etc so will regulate noradrenaline! As particularly after opiates your noradrenaline is revved up hence insomnia! The only thing I would say re Buspar is that if your on it for a while you will experience withdrawal symptoms( insomnia, rebound anxiety, muscle cramps, sweating etc) so you have to reduce slowly! I’m sorry but honestly the only way to do this in my experience is to use natural methods ie diet, exercise etc etc and only time heals you. I know how hard it is believe me but it’s so worth it in the end . Keep fighting and stay strong my friend. Also acupuncture is great for homeostasis and rebalancing the body and mind ! Good luck 👍

do you think when it comes to benzos, my last regular dose was June 2018 but my last true dose (after months of not having it ) was October 30th 2018 (thats when my withdrawal really kicked in) and I had only been using it sparingly when i was like 1-2mg a week or sometimes 1-2mg a month thats it, so would you think i should still be experiencing withdrawal April 2019? It doesnt make sense to me, i mean i was on klonopin since 2013 but like i said i only used it once a week at most but usualy once or twice a month.
Its unlikely I get bad P.A.W.S I reckon since I’ve only drank heavily for 3 years. Been sober for two weeks and Im getting my sleep back, and I’m excersing again. Should try to improve my diet tho..it’s okay atm but I still eat some sugar etc
Hey Tim been experiencing Paws for a year for abusing Tramadol; my question is since the Paws symptoms comes in waves, if those waves are getting shorter with time, is that a sign it’s coming to an end?
Hey I have a question . So I been off subz and all opiates for 2 months now and still feel off . If I switch back to my oxycodne and not take sub ever again . Would I detox faster from oxy ? Or eventually have to face the sub with drawl because short acting is faster detox I can handle a couple weeks of wd
Thats a difficult one Drake. Suboxone has a longer half life. I would recommend you taper down Suboxone really slowly rather than start taking oxys again. Whichever way you will experience some withdrawal but a slow taper from Suboxone is much better than withdrawal from oxys good luck my friend
@@TimJohnsonrecovery yeah man I understand . I detoxed from oxy before and it was way quicker but more intense . Do you think if I take oxy codone or kratom just once that I will start over the whole withdrawals ? Do you know from experience or anyone who’s been through it already I just want a break
@@komrad51st i understand you wanting a break, but if you take oxycodone and kratom once to relief you, the chances are that you will keep doing it. I know how hard it is, but sometimes its better to ride it out. Take care and good luck.

Great description, thank you!
the internal temperture regulator is the first thing to fix itself. the real monster is not the first few weeks, its the months and possibly years of severe depression and lack of happiness. humans dont do well with no sense of happiness for long periods.. magnesium citrate helps for constipation. homemade lemonade made with stevia is a good cell flush.

When did u start to feel better
I had been on benzos and some antidepressant med that also treats seizures for many (10) yrs. and when I was quickly taken off of these in rehab is when I started having seizures and other problems.
I’m up in the middle of the night now, and reaching for one of your videos for inspiration.
Keep moving forward cara, eat well and clean ,exercise gently, let your body and mind heal. Small steps!! Be patient and stay strong. Much love to you
I'm having a crappy day. light headed and just feel like I'm gonna pass out.
It will get better my friend i promise much love
hello I hope you are fine. also alcoholic.
Thanks Tim good bless you and Ryan for all your help
Great video my friend. I’m currently battling with substance abuse problems, and am currently on day 5 of withdrawal. I feel I’m through the acute stage, but the anxiety and sense of hopelessness is crippling. The fact I have 2 daughters and a job I can’t really walk away from has helped me grind through the first 5 days. Granted it’s been hell, but I’m not dead so I continue to push on. This video was very refreshing and comforting. I think being in nature and replacing deadly habits with healthy ones will be the ultimate key. Thanks again and I’ll continue to follow you going forward...

Thanks Adam, good luck and keep moving forward my friend stay strong and much love to you
This is excellent information. Have you seen Dr KJ Foster's take on PAWS? It's also great.
This guys knows his stuff
Congratulations Robert, your doing a great thing ,be proud. Good Luck stay focused and strong, much love to you
its going to take years.
the opiates caused brain damage, in the fact your brain stops making certain chemicals.. the doctors who prescribed this to u for 14 years should be hung!

I promise it’s never too late to fully recover Mindy ! I was your age when my recovery started properly! Good luck🙏

I would just like to know if it was an issue you dealt with. Thanks!

christianv80 did you have kratom withdraw?
try LTYROSINE .. U have a chemical imbalance, u stopped making the chemical dopamine,., ltyrosine is a precursor that metabolizes into dopa.
@@rkje112 yes , if i dont take it i feel mild withdraws about 5/6hrs after each dose but not near as bad as opiates or subs .
I believe that anything that changes your neurotransmitters can hinder recovery, especially kratom. You have to stop everything
I have been trying to get off of kratom for months, it’s been terrible for me. I have terrible withdrawals when lowering my dose.
Spot on!
what do u think about ashwagandha and other adaptogens in this journey , Tim ?
Dear Tim! Your video gives so much hope. Among others I suffer from rebound insomnia after use of antidepressants. It is with me since weeks and I'm afraid it never goes away. What is your estimate, when can this get better?
You my man are a guneius. Thanks for letting me know about Wim Hof
Thanks ❤❤❤
I’m suffering with it
This happens if you Stop Cold Turkey... I tapered off of clonazepam 15 years 0.5 always under 0.5.. I tapered for 18 months... will I get PAWS ?

Hey I have a question . So I been off subz and all opiates for 2 months now and still feel off . If I switch back to my oxycodne and not take sub ever again . Would I detox faster from oxy ? Or eventually have to face the sub with drawl because short acting is faster detox I can handle a couple weeks of wd

If PAWS happens a year later, is it PAWS or is this a new mental health issue? As I understand it, PAWS is over 3-6months after quitting.
