Hey I have a question why some french sentence have "au" contraction though there is no article "a" or preposition "le" to make the contraction possible? For example: " Jai mal au pied." Im really confused on this one because when translated on english it is " my foot hurts" and "to the" doesnt exist in the sentence. I know that you cant translate the language from french to english word by word but can you explain to me what "au" means in the "jai mal au pied" and how contraction"au" is in the sentence though there is no "a" and "le" in the sentence. Thanks in advace!.
The French would be equally baffled when learning English to discover that we say ''in the foot'' These are idiomatic expressions that need to be learned on a case by case basis. That you are asking these questions is a good sign of thinking and observation.
Boa tarde! Suas aulas são maravilhosas. Nos permite aprender tanto o francês, como o inglês. Só tenho uma solicitação a fazer. Vocês não poderiam disponibilizar os slides para nós? ou mesmo os pdf das lições? Ficariamos eternamente agradecidos. obrigado!

Bonjour
Uh... yes... I too speak Sweden, je suis le toilette.
Au dessous and au dessous sounds the same 😢
au-dessus is above and au-dessous means below
exactly what i am feeling
Dalal Albarakah if you notice, Au-dessous has sous which is under, so below and Au-dessus is more like surs and surs means on SO above.
they don't sound the same: au dessous /su/, au dessus /sy/
Yes

you always use an article in front of parts of the body in French "la main, le pied" so "j'ai mal à le pied" > j'ai mal au pied ;-)
they saying:merci mille pour moi
