This can definitely happen, but it's also possible to let go of the romantic feelings and move on from your crush while still being friends. It's very hard to do though. This happened with a boy I met a few years ago. I think there was "something there" between us, but he didn't want to act on it. So after a while, I moved on, and met my current boyfriend and fell in love. I'm still friends with the first boy, but now I don't have any romantic feeling for him. I just accepted that we are friends, and that we are probably better off that way. Yes, sometimes I do wonder what it would have been like if we were more than friends, but it's *not* something I focus on or day dream about. I just see him as a friend now.

This is exactly what I need to do. I missed my shot with a good friend of mine. Whenever I see her, I just feel different. But I know the person in front of me is just that: a person. But then I do a total 180 and see them in a different light. It’s weird. And yet I know that it’s better for me to cut my losses and move on, it’s just been difficult.

I have a friend that me like, but me no think she like me 😢. I see her, I get nervous, sometimes she stares at me (not cold, but not warm either, it's hard to explain, ig like a really nice and warm version of a "what a he doing here" stare), it's hard for me to tell. As a TV show once said, the [other gender] species is hard to understand (that was from Stranger Things btw). I barely talk to her irl, but we talk a lot on IG, she gave me many mixed signs (obvious signs of, I like you, or stay away from me, we're just friends). Also I had a dream about her 2 days ago and now I'm really concerned for my well-being, she makes me want to see tomorrow, when I can glance at her during math class 😁 or any other places in my school. Some people may be able to move on, others don't, and it's perfectly fine to leave a good friendship if you want something more.
And I think women have a much easier time to move on as you have options for other relationships, much more than other men.

DUDE... Okay let me tell you my story, 4 years ago i fell in love with a girl but i didn't had the courage to talk to her untill 2 years ago. Over the past 2 years we have become best friends, but i always thought she didn't love me the way i did. But recently she said that she worries too much about me, cares a little too much and thats why she thinks that she likes me too... She's afraid of losing that friendship (I wasn't friendzoned though, since she said "It's not about you, but rather I'm not interested in a relationship at the moment and I'm very grateful we are still friends despite the pandemic separating us" and my other friends told me that I still have chances) and I fully respect her boundaries.
I dunno, perhaps she's trying to test me to ensure I'm not one of those "how dare you reject me when I was so nice to you!?" kind of guy. Because those are the types of people you AVOID like the plague.

Yeah I completely agree, right now I have feelings for my closest friend but honestly I feel like I don’t need a romantic relationship any time soon, whilst I do have those desires the logic isn’t there. I’d rather wait til college or university age and if we are still friends and I still have those desires, I’d pursue it then, when it is more likely to somewhere . 8 out of 8 and about the affectionate part- I've tried to hide my feelings in the past from my crush so he won't reject me and that meant not touching him at all because my love would have become quite obvious. Now, he has rejected me twice and I have such a hard time moving on. This video is slightly bittersweet but also a reminder that I SHOULD move on. I didn’t know my friend had a boyfriend until one day they just mentioned it casually in a conversation like it was the most obvious thing in the world, and while I had previously known that I only had a chance, it really did hurt even though I wasn’t directly rejected or anything. I feel like I met most of the things on this list and while it may have just been liking them a lot, I feel like it could have grown into something much deeper. I truly am happy for her and her boyfriend as they are both my friends and I have always been glad that they are happy together and would never interfere with their relationship, but for a few days I was just left thinking about it, and not blaming anyone because I know everyone was right there, but being confused on as to what to do next. I feel like I have gotten better now, and I am still friends with the people, but it does sometimes feel weird when I talk to her by myself.
That normally occurs when you are not direct with your feelings and intentions at all. I know it hurts but you will feel better if you cut that friendship

I met my best friend (girl) a few months ago and we have never talked before so i thought it will be kind a weird but it was the complete opposite. In the first moment there was a big connection. We both felt it. It was like magic. After some fun trips with my bike i soon started to develop deeper feelings for her. (Like everything that was mentioned in the video) i couldn't tell her because i didn't want to ruin our friendship so i waited until the right moment...
I told her everything about my feelings but she didnt feel the same way but we stayed close friends until the day i invited her to a party and she got to know my other best friend (boy) better.
Now we barely have contact and she is 24/7 at my friends house and even slept there a couple of times (like today on Christmas :c) She refused that they have something romantic but i cant believe that... I get extremely jealous even now when i think about it. What's that kind of a friend who know that you have feelings for her and still meet her everytime. I told her that its really hurting me to see her with someone else because of our special emotional connection but it seems like she didnt care at all. She broke my heart not only in a romantic way but also the friendship.

To start, your English is better than the majority of people out there. Secondly...I know the rats part all too well.
I had to cut ties with a very close friend earlier this month when I learned he was a dishonest, deceitful, and downright insane person (he supports the idea of murdering police and military servicemembers in their homes while doing unspeakable things to their loved ones) that was talking behind my back while twisting stories to suit his agenda. But I knew what was going to come when he can't even look in my direction or put his phone down when I am talking to him in a 1on1 conversational environment.
Cutting him out of my life wasn't easy, but it had to be done. Other people have told me he has shown hints of jealousy because it became apparent I was more likeable as a person compared to him.

I have struck a 7/8 and can tell that my friend has being doing pretty the same as me, and we both know about that.
The thing is that she's kinda traumatized of being in a romantic relationship with a "best friend", because her last relationship was with a guy she thought was perfect for but put her in the emocional gutter, let's say.

Update, 4 months later: it all went down the drain, in a friendly way, but it wasn't working anymore. I griefed a while but I'm doing good now, so good that I met someone who is far more understanding and loving than my friend was, I'm truly in love now.
That's actually quite genius, in case for example one dindn't like it or you feel you made a mistake, you could always say they got rickrolled.
You can just try to convince you aren't like her last. If shes scared about that then be patient and stick by her side. Don't get friendzoned but don't try to push it too hard either. She obviously likes you, shes just isn't ready.

Around 2 years ago me and my friend confessed to each other in love.
It was soo surreal and weird, cuz we both considered ourselves straight before this moment.
So basically... the moment of simultaneous confession was also the moment of realization of our bisexuality for both of us.
We call our relations - "friendship with some added bonuses" and i don't wish for anything more, really.
One thing for sure: Bisexuality is great and bisexual people usually are the coolest individuals you can meet.

This may have made me realize I like a friend in a more intimate way. I’ve always thought I felt no romantic attraction, but that applied to boys, not the girls I liked in the past(I thought my past crushes were all fake and made up, however, the female ones were real).

Lately I've been feeling so attached and affectionate towards my bestfriend, it sucks since I know he doesn't feel the same and I am overly emotional about everything. If he sits with my sister, I get jealous, if he doesn't text back immediately I get sad.

I came here because I wondered what people would do differently as friends vs lovers because I can’t imagine being in love with some one I wasn’t already friends with, or in love with platonically before. While following along, I definitely am sure that my feelings with all of my close friends aren’t romantic but deep platonic love. It's so hard when you and her complete eachother so much. I'm head over heels for her and since she's in a relationship (a toxic one) I don't confess my feelings because I'd rather be friends than confessing and getting separated. God, this actually helps me alot-
I'm on the aromantic spectrum, and though I know the conditions it takes for me to catch feelings, they've- so far- always manifested differently for each person. This actually helped me find the base line(things I've felt each time, despite the bigger differences which are why I have a hard time telling it's a crush). Im also on the aromatic spectrum and my friend recently is having trouble with a potential crush. They don’t know whether they like them platonically or romantically and it made me realise that I don’t actually know the difference either. I wanna red and help them but this is making me believe perhaps maybe I’ve felt romantic attraction too and just thought this is how besties are meant to be. This doesn’t make me think of anyone in particular but it would be useful for me to know if the situation ever arises.

I've been in love with my close friend. i wouldn't say she was my best friend. I wanted things to move further but didn't force the issue, because she was dealing with a lot of stuff. it took me long time to get over. But the only thing that was missing was the spark of attraction, because she wanted someone more assertive and confident who would make the move, and I had missed my chance because I was getting over someone else at that time too.
One of my big regrets, but our lives have turned very different directions since then.

My partner started out as a very good friend. He was in process of breaking up with someone for the second time when we met, but we clicked so profoundly and became good friends--mostly online. Several years later, I invited him to a company karaoke night that he accepted, and clicked perfectly again. At that time he was breaking up with the same lady for the third time, so our friendship had its limits, but we've been getting closer every day since. After 6 months I realized that I was basically living at his place, so we talked about it and became officially a couple, and 5 years later are still deepening our connection every day.
One of my friends is 100% into me but I'm aro ace (he knows), except I still really like receiving physical affection like snuggles and caresses so I gladly accept the attention.
Came here to double check that it's still not romantic on my part and it definitely isn't. I guess my feelings and behaviors are a reflection of what I would like some of my platonic relationships to be like, but don't often get to express because of society's perception that that level of physical closeness between adults has to be romantic

You can still engage in emotionally connecting behaviors two people consent to with the disclaimer that it isn't going to go any further.
I've had crushes on people before and they rejected me, but I still played games with them, I still listened about their problems, I've still given hugs. The fact that they didn't retract from me when I was honest is a sign that they trust me. That is a huge compliment in my eyes. They don't think I'm entitled to their body, and they don't think I'm the kind of person to act entitled to their body.
The point here is two people who are friends are engaging in things they both consent to do. I hope the guy moves on from those feelings, but I don't know if treating him like he's untrustworthy and retracting would help. These are real people you know. And an aro ace person, by stating they are aro ace, literally can't lead people on. "I will never feel any sort of romance for anyone ever," is pretty hard to misunderstand.

I experienced most of this a few weeks ago, on vacations with an old friend from highschool. I was wondering a few weeks before I came to her house if I was or not feeling something "more" towards her, yet I felt it was a little bit immoral or dishonnest for acting like that towards her, and I worked on suppressing these feelings in order not to parasite thegood time we had together. But after a few days with her, I had the "thunderstrike" in my heart and mind like a revelation, and I knew it was love. For the next two weeks, we had long conversations, with confidences, or plans for me to come to live in her area, activities, work together, how we imagined our friendship and vacations together in near future, and had a lot of little attentions, surprises, and demonstrations of kindness such as emotionnal support, advices, long hugs and little kisses almost all the time, that gave me the impression something was really building up. The day I went home, we have had a final conversation, and what is still making me think is the fact that, about the things we did, and the emotions we had, she didn't gave me a clear answer such as yes or no, but more something that sound like a "not yet" or "I'm not ready now but offer me a little more time". Nowadays, we both agreed to give each other a little time without talking to "clear" our feelings and make up our minds before talking seriously about it. So, who knows......?

I’d say figure out why you feel you aren’t ready for a relationship. Make a specific list and see if the things on the list just come down to fear, or if there are real things that you still need to work through before a relationship. Once you do that write down the reasons you’d want a relationship with that specific person, and see if it’s worth taking that leap. I personally didn’t feel fully ready for a relationship, but I’m so glad I decided to move past that fear. Just figuring out the reasons behind your feelings can be very helpful. Hope everything goes well!
Accept that attraction is a normal feeling and is not the only criterion for a potential life-partner. In all parts of life, everyone will feel attraction to other people. We can find others attractive, even when we're in a loving, romantic, and commited relationship with an attractive partner. (Healthy couples acknowledge this). That's because there are so many different traits that make up a healthy & romantic relationship. Attraction is just one small piece of it, but does not stand alone in warranting a relationship. For your situation, it's totally cool to acknowledge your attraction for eachother and admire and flirt - at least until the other necessary traits develop. If done with mutual respect and with clear boundaries, flirting can be sustained and not hurt anyone's feelings. If and when it comes to a need for a decision, i.e all the necessary pieces arrive, have open conversation.

same here. i opened up about it with them just one week ago. he’s attracted to me too but he is not ready and not even god knows when he will be. his ex was a mad manipulative abuser and he’s got big ass trauma for it.
it’s complicated bc he gets high paranoia for the slightest stuff, he’s mad scared of losing me, it’s been 9 months of us hanging out everyday. but he said that the first step into a relationship would also be the first into loosing each other.
so A, i don’t think anymore this is the right timeline, one of the many realities where we’re allowed to be lovers.

so i used to do LITERALLY ALL OF THESE with my best friend (a guy) but i absolutely never wanted to admit it even to myself because i didnt want to ruin our friendship but after 6-7 months of us being best friends, we ended up dating. its been two months so far and ive literally never been happier. ik it sounds naive and childish to some ppl, but i wanna be with him for the rest of my life like both of us are planning on getting married someday and spending the rest of our lives together. 🥰

I think its a weird balance. Love comes out of building a friendship. I have men that are JUST my friends. I love them as they are..but I wouldnt touch them with a 5 foot pole(in a sexual manner or think of them in THAT way.) Opening your heart to someone emotionally and physically IS love. Feeling jealous is also love,but how 1 manages the jealousy is important. You always want the best for them and it can turn creepy/controlling fast.
If I ever have friends again I'll be able to try this.

I've experienced this, there's this one girl in the top/elite section that I don't usually hang out with. We've met in a chess tournament. At first, we don't really talk much after the event (the event is held every year so we only meet once a year) but 2 years pass by, we slowly got to know each other and we even hang outside the event! During that time, I had a boyfriend but we broke up and decided to just become friends when I was on my last year of high school. This is where it got interesting, 5 months have passed after the breakup and I finally got the guts to confess to her (I was already developing feelings for my chess friend in the past few years and my ex bf saw past through me as always and said to me that I should give it a go and he'll be supporting me from the sidelines) so after finally confessing my feelings for her, she also admitted that she also feels the same. Boy oh boy, I felt I was on cloud 9 but it was short live since there was a catch. She told me that she was delighted to know that I like her but sadly, we can't be together since there is also a person who likes her and is suicidal. She was told that by the suicidal person that she is his lifeline. The only thing that makes him happy and preventing him from taking his own life. After hearing the story, I have no choice but to give up and let her go even though she also finds it painful that we can't be together but we can't risk a person's life over our own selfishness. So my chess friend and the suicidal person are together until now. In short, I experienced all the stuff that were describe in this vid but in the end we just become close friend. Pain.

I think I've recently started getting feelings for this guy whom i met on social media around 3-4 months ago and since then we're in touch regularly. But i ALSO think that he just sees me as his good friend. The thing is he lives in a whole different continent, so we've never seen each other, idk how he looks like and vice-versa (We both couldn't care any less bout this thing btw). We talked over call once tho LOL. He tells me about almost everything when we talk, like how his day went, what did he do thru the whole day and we both know about each other's personal lives and issues more than anyone else. We both stay awake late at night cuz of the time difference just so that we can talk. And he also says I'm special to him. As I'm struggling with my mental health rn, he says that we'll work on it together. He's really caring and supportive. He says its gon be a journey and we're in this together no matter what happens. Butttt one day he also said that “The efforts of making you feel loved can't come from me, I can just help you but you need to realise it yrself".
So did he just friendzone me??? I'm really confused. I don't have the guts to ask him this myself cuz i think I'll ruin our friendship.
