I saw Jonathan solo acoustic in around February of 1979. My roommate and I went on double date in a snow storm in Georgetown. The audience consisted of 6 people. Including us. Our table abutted the stage. On a previous occasion, I had seen him play a double bill. In between sets, he joined me at the pinball machine.
I can't remember which video it was, but someone commented "is he God?" It's not like a "Clapton is God" comment or anything like that, and I'm not religious but it's more like Jonathan is God, in that he subtley visits now and again and spreads the purest simplest joy, with zero pretense or ego. I truly love his music.
Jonathan, with no doubt you are one of the more interesting amd wonderful human beings of this F world were we live. Your songs and your performances are sooooo great. Please never die, please go on singing forever. We absolutely love you in Barcelona. Come back!
You are lucky to have seen him twice! I only have one thing on my bucket list - see JR live. Will probably never happen as he's afraid of flying and I'm in Australia 😢 I was just a kid last time he came here in the 90s
Johnathan could write a song about making toast and it’d be awesome… saw him at a tiny club in Melbourne around this time and never seen a room so full of happy people. He’s an absolute genius
I haven't listened to the whole song but Jonathan Richman might be interested to know that the Hudson Bar on 8th Avenue was named - until I announced it probably - the Henrietta Hudson bar. This is the name of a chemistry teacher in the college I taught in in London. Whether or not she is gay, unless she approved the name of it, I would think it inappropriate. There can't be that many Henrietta Hudsons. Unless it was called that in the past.
Oh no i just fell in love with Julia Sweeney 30 years ago
I met Julia in 2015. We talked about Ween. She’s cool as hell
That is exactly 30 years too late!
Time flies!
Saw him up close 2 days ago and I'm still buzzing
You are a very lucky man.
No way!!!😮😮

He showed me the chords to one of his songs at the Bijou Cafe once.

He switched to acoustic guitar because he didn't want damage ''the little kiddies' hearing''. Sweetest man alive!
Over 70 and he still plays out in NYC thank u Jonathan
Where? When?
I always come back for their duet. So magical and a bra example of his songwriting. He sings what he experiences.
I'm a bit pissed and in the early stages of dope sickness and this had me smiling ear to ear
Hope you’re doing okay man, such a tough fight! Rooting for you!
songwriting in its purest and greatest form
Thanks Conan for so frequently inviting this musical genius to your show during the 90ties..

CoCo and JoJo - what a great combo.
Guitar!
I've never seen a guitar slung so low.
You missed the grunge era dude, lol. Every guitar, to the knees. Scoliosis everywhere!
@@knittingnickel Jimmy Page had it lower.
@@apolloptx Yeah? I'm a 90s gal, so never caught that.
i luv you!!!
I've always loved Julia Sweeney but she is right. Wow. The audience didn't know how to react at first. I miss her though.
Handsome goof!
Yes yes ❤❤❤❤RAa
If you get to Jonathan's shows early, he might be solo on the dance floor, dancing to the pre gig DJ tunes.
After just coming back from a Mac Demarco show a few months ago..... boy are they similar
(Not the music, the show/persona)
i was thinking exactly that right before i read your comment
Mac totally stole his way of.speaking in interviews, that's for sure.
nah
@@cherrythreeonefouronefivenine Some of the music is a little similar too

Miguel Glover I think it’s a Silvertone
The inspiration for The Flight of The Conchords?
