  • If your Hyundai key remote is starting to not work or the range of the remote has been significantly reduced, you most likely have a flat battery in your remote.
Replacing the remote key battery is a cheap way to get your central locking on your Hyundai working again.
The Hyundai key remote has a button mounted on the side of the key, this button can often get pushed when the key is in your pocket, buy pushing the button continuously the battery life will reduce, leaving you with a flat battery in your key fob.
Follow this short video to be able to remove and replace the remote key battery.

This type of key is also used on a Hyundai Getz
Thanks for showing us that sometimes even experts struggle with the fiddly bits and a bit of patience is all it takes!

That was great, thanks. I especially enjoyed your struggle putting the battery back in - this is just the reality of such jobs, and makes the rest of us feel better in our own struggles :)

It's the same as my 2013 i10. I was particularly interested to know which way to turn the battery cover to open it as I discovered that the slot where you are supposed to insert a coin was now completely round, probably from a previous battery change by someone who expected, as most of us would, that you would turn it anti-clockwise to open it. I am now faced with the problem of opening the battery cover.

My 2015 Imax key (genuine) has totally different internals and uses a 1620 battery. The battery holder is not a screw-in. The internal plastic housing must be parted by separating three claw catches to access the battery. I went and bought the 1220 battery and discovered I needed another trip to the shop to get the correct battery for the version I have.

Looks the same as my iMax 2014 and cheers inside was slightly different but I couldn't work out how to open the case. Mine issue was only a bad connection due to corrosion which I cleaned up now the key works.
