@@gardensofthegods that’s a nice theory, but goldfish don’t get “relieved” or “so happy” and that would not cause them to swim up. The overhead light is not harmful 👍
Thank you for this video!!! I’m trying to move my goldfish into a bigger tank and wasn’t 100% sure how to do it! I can’t wait to have a bunch of beautiful goldfish like yours!!
Perfect explanation of a process that was a steep learning curve! Great job! But note for viewers is that if you uses this process it won’t take months. Smart to do all the filters at once. Also newbies should know it is not about the water, it’s about getting the bacteria to grow in the nooks and crannies of your filter and surfaces that touch the water.
@@someguy-uq3vm you don’t have to keep the ammonia level at 4ppm. and the conversion rate between ammonia nitrite and nitrate isn’t exactly 1:1. the average hobbyist can sufficiently cycle their tanks with 1ppm of ammonia. however this is great cycling for the stocking of his tanks.
FINALLY!!!!! A video that explains and shows what the heck to do in order and what to look for each day and each week with a follow up. So how are people getting by just adding fritz 700 and adding fish with in minutes?
I have always cycled in a very similar way using non surfactant ammonia. Although, I let the ammonia completely convert to nitrite before re-dosing. A bullet proof cycle is a great foundation. Dosing to 4ppm means you can, pretty much, chuck in your complete stock choice upon cycle completion.
Ah, finally found a good vid explaining how to cycle a tank me and my parents are seeing to get a tank and my father just can't find a good vid explaining how to cycle a tank, tank you so much!
This makes so much sense now i just got a 50 gallon aquarium and I almost made a big mistake and didn’t cycle new to the hobby, but with this i can easily distinguish how and when to add my fish big question though is there a harmful amount of nitrate that will harm the fish? Also am i looking for a fast conversation to nitrite to nitrate as well?
This is super helpful. Currently working on cycling right now. Related, what if you don't see that cycle happening? Is there anything else you can do to encourage it, or is it just a waiting game?
Thank you for this! It was the best video I found so far. I'm setting up my second tank rn but the first tank was a lot smaller and I just added the fish immediately (I was told so by the pet shop). Luckily I took care of it well so the fish are still alive, but I am doing a lot of research for my second tank as I'm keeping fancy goldfish and I don't wanna fuck it up. Plus the tank is bigger and it'll take a while more for it to be totally cycled
Cycled a 10 gallon tank with fish in it (3x bettas, and about 12 tetras) in 17 days. Had to keep a constant eye on things, made use of the bottled bacteria, and did water changes to manage the ammonia/nitrite. Have zero across the board now (the plants mop up the nitrate). You can limit the effect of nitrites with a _small_ amount of (pure) salt: 50x the amount of nitrite, which will work out to less than a gram in a tank that size.
Got a 29 gal. Added stability for three days. Added 3 fish and now within the first week I have nitrate action! I use stability every day so maybe that’s why
Sand? Yes. The sand will become part of cycle. Pothos? Not really - there's nothing in the tank for the plant to "eat" and it doesn't speed anything up.
Hi Luke, im currenty cycling my tank right now but during summer it gets really hot in my room and my tank temp goes up to 85 in the afternoon and goes back down to 81 at night. Can goldfish survive that high of a temp?

But you can’t leave these levels for too long or else you’ll starve the bacteria. How long does this bacteria live for without ammonia, and nitrites without dying?

This stuff is all so confusing but I'm taking notes. I don't have fush yet but what about when you have to do a water change? Should i take my fish out of the main tank?
Don’t take your fish out because the constant back and forth can stress your fish. It’s best to use a siphon hose to take water out, and add new water with dechlorinator and live bacteria
Thank you for this. I'm really having trouble cycling my tank. It's been full for about two weeks and like a fool, I didn't put anything in it for like a week because someone told me that the ammonia would just show up naturally. I waited for days for ammonia to show up but it didn't. At this point I'm really annoyed and I think I'm just gonna buy the powdered ammonia. I'm just afraid that it's going to negatively impact my plants. Will it kill them?

Let’s say I’m doing this method to a tank with substrate, fake plants, and decor & upon getting a fast conversion between ammonia and nitrates would a water change hurt the cycle ? And are we doing water changes when nitrates get too high ? Or just letting them accumulate and a water change just upon adding fish ? Plz help 🫶🏻
My tank has been set up for 2 weeks and I used cycled filter media (sponge) but the ammonia is stuck at 2.0 ppm. Nitrite is at 0 ppm, and Nitrate is at about 25 ppm. Why won’t the ammonia go down?
No, you shouldn't be removing all the water or completely cleaning the tank anyway. A 25-30% water change weekly or biweekly should be fine as long as the water tests are coming out good. You only need to do it once really unless something goes wrong (which is rare if you cycled correctly).
Omg so confusing I have one Oranda gold fish In a 20 gallon tank I’m new to this can someone tell me why it’s important to cycle a tank and is it necessary?
Its crucial to cycle a fish tank. This is because your fish produces ammonia when it poops and ammonia is toxic to fish. Cycling your tank allows beneficial bacteria to grow in the tank and that beneficial bacteria is able to break down the ammonia into a less toxic form.
