Can I use spring water, from an untreated ground water source? This is the water I drink, I wondered, obviously I will test it to see the levels but would there be anything else to be aware of , this water is hard water area coming through lime stone
Thank you beautiful friend for your very helpful information. Can't thank you enough. You answered what I wasn't getting from others so thank you again❣️❣️❣️
I made the mistake of getting a betta before a tank was cycled. I saw it dying in the store so I bought the tank, accessories, and the bettas. Not only is he still alive, but he is completely healed! He had velvet disease AND fin rot from being kept in poor conditions in Petsmart. I am a science major and had to take a crap load of biology courses (even though I’m an astrophysics major), so I think that was what helped me. I have done it with other bettas in my other tanks and no problems. I only encountered a problem when my bettas killed two otocinclus (they were constantly mating and driving them nuts) and I couldn’t find their bodies for a week. I’m just here to tell people that you don’t have to wait weeks and if you know enough biology, you’ll know how to get your ecosystem up and running FAST
@jenifferdeluna4523 to be honest, I don’t do the whole two months cycling. I put my fish in right away. I do the father fish method (check his channel out). I have sand and potting soil underneath the sand and a crap ton of plants. The plants have been my savior. You need to get catappa leaves and always have them in stock at your house! I have several leaves in all my bettas’ tanks. My tangerine koi betta LOVES sleeping in between the catappa leaves. Do you have betta hammocks for them? 98% of the tank is natural but I did get some silicone and silk betta hammocks. I also have a betta tunnel which my tangerine koi betta is obsessed with!
Real people advice. Add api quick start a bit above the recommended level, add aqua safe plus, throw in the fish and enjoy your crystal clear tank. May get ever so slightly cloudy, almost imperceptible on day two then be crystal clear. Dont remove more than 20% of the water or do water cleaning filter cleanings at the same time after. You are welcome.
Bro you are definitely a lifesaver I used to follow caveman and the other day he really wasn't explaining what I needed him to do him to do and your video popped upopped up and you You actually break stuff down so I'm going to try to follow you Need a lot of pointers
Thank you for this very interesting video. I have a question about cycling using fish. Since during the first weeks the ammonia level may spike and is usually higher than 0 (which is the recommended level for any fish or shrimp), how do I introduce fish in the tank without killing them? Even Guppy, which is considered hardy, requires 0 ammonia. Thank you.
If I setup my 3rd aquarium with potting soil and used water pulled from water changes of the other two tanks and a sponge filter from a current tank; do I need to wait to add my val, or can I throw it in on day one, or will an ammonia spike from the potting soil kill it?
I have an established 28 gallon tank but want to instant cycle a new 125 gallon tank. Would I just take the sponge from 28 gallon and put it in filter of 125 gallon and it will instantly cycle it?
If I had cyanobacteria in my established tanks but have treated them, if I use plants or filter media from those tanks and put them in my new tank, am I in danger of spreading cyano to my new tank? Because I am not 100% sure the cyano has be completely eradicated from the old tanks? And if you get ammonia in the new tank can you just keep adding Prime and Stability to keep fish safe so the bacteria can grow feeding on the ammonia? Like not do too many water changes so the bacteria has something to feed on? Thank you, I look forward to your answer. 🙂
Just a tip. In my experience add substrate and some high nutrients soil, then add a little water( like 2 to 4 cm of water. Let the soil settle for a bit and then add a small layer of sand. Make sure to rinse the sand first. Add water slowly then you will have a crystal clear water after a few hours. Add some bacteria. I kept my aquarium with plants and small fish for years without any major water change. Just dont add fish right away. Make sure the soil is layer is not too thin. Good soil, layer of sand on it so the soil doesnt cause cloudiness, plants then your good to go.
Hey Chris, The tank with I guess is duck weed, Is that a shop light above it ? For some reason my stem plants keep loosing leaves from the middle and downward. Any ideas?
I am starting a new 110 gallon to upgrade from a 50 gallon. I have an established filter so I can borrow some used media (from a Fluval 407) to put in the new FX filter. My question is should I let the new filter run for a bit before I add the material to the new filter? Will the new water just kill the bacteria (it will have aqua safe in it). Will adding waste water help at all? There is poop, pee and food debris in it. I’ve heard that does nothing, but why not if it has all that in it? Because it comes from a cycled tank? I have no problem waiting a bit, but I want to do it right.
You only want to add in ammonia when it gets close to 0PPM, and avoid overdosing ammonia >4PPM since you'll end up killing the bacteria that converts it into nitrite; aquariu.ms/article/1-the-nitrogen-cycle/#1d2146a8-fishless-cycling
Not betta. Not if you want other fish. I love my betta cause he just so happens to be the “once in a blue moon” kinda betta that lives safely with other fish, but 95% of the time, male bettas are solitary fish.
I tried fish in but they died. Now I’m doing Fishless and dosing Dr Tim’s ammonia to keep ammonia levels at 1-2ppm. My nitrates are at 40ppm nitrites 2ppm. Tank is only 16 days old. I’m sticking with this way, I’m in no rush. I don’t want to sacrifice any more fish. Not sure what I did wrong with the fish in but I’m totally new to this cycling thing. Years ago we didn’t know about all this science 🤔
I set up a 50 gal tank with six neon tetras. I did not cycle anything. I lost three fish. I began adding plants and a month later added six more tetras. The tank has been running for six years now. I have made mistakes but I think the biggest mistake was changing the water every week. I just top off now.

Hello!! Im late but I’m not sure if I’m cycling my axolotl tank right. I just got my tank yesterday and I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong. Seachem safe
Is buying a few fish a good idea if you already started a fishless cycle & all your levels are good except nitrite? Will that help complete the cycle?

Nice fish room!!! What's the key to growing Pothos like that? I have 2 and they're not growing big and vibrant like yours. That's incredible!!!

Are the guppies the sacrificial fishies because won’t they die during the ammonia spike?
They are pretty hardy fish but yes they can maybe die
What do u think of the dark start cycle
what was the brand of the full spectrum light you mentioned in this video? You said it grows plants
What are some good beginner fish to adopt?
I'd say Zebra Danios, Honey Gourami, Betta, Neon Tetras and Harlequin Rasboras.

If you put plants and fish in a new aquarium, then why do you have all the products to quick start an aquarium tank.
So he can get people to buy them through affiliate links
To dechlorinate and detoxify tap water and among many other things. Simply research.
To detoxify the water more for the fish… maybe do some more research before you get snotty.

A teaspoon or two of pee does the trick.
