Trijicon SRO on Benelli M4

  • The Benelli M4 has a great set of ghost ring sights from the factory, but it's really hard to beat the near instant target acquisition you can achieve with a reflex/red-dot sight like the Trijicon SRO (SKU: SRO2-C-2500002). In order to install the new optic so the SRO and the ghost rings can be co-witnessed and used interchangeably, we had to remove the factory picatinny rail and replace it with a Scalarworks SYNC/01. You can install the SRO on the factory rail, but like you can see in the video, the optic will be elevated too far and will need to be removed in order to utilize the factory ghost rings.
    Overall, it's a super easy install and looks/functions great as a combination. I probably had less than 10 minutes invested in the change overall.

    Awesome job explaining the mount. I just put a T2 in a SYNC mount, on a Benelli M4, and it is perfectly co-witnessed and is beautifully manufactured.

    I used the same mount to attach an RMR to my M4. I am pretty sure that the Scalarworks sync mount
    Is the only absolute co-witness mount for this gun, despite the M4 being on the civilian market for so many years.
    I use the RMR that has the green chevron, fiber optic with tritium. The
    50 MOA triangle is great for close targets and the tip of the chevron aids with precision aiming at longer distances.

    What was the result after you sighted in the red dot? I am concerned that a direct co-witness of the dot to the iron sights is going to be too busy and confusing. I was really hoping the iron would be lower 1/3 of the optic glass. Any additional insight would be appreciated.

    • @PrecisionTKS
      @PrecisionTKS  8 місяців тому

      It's all personal preference. The irons are a bit lower in the glass, definitely not centered. The thing you have to remember about red dots is wherever the dot is, that's where the round goes. It doesn't need to be lined up with anything else besides the target and you don't need 100% perfect cheek weld to make otnfunction properly. With that being said, cowitnessing in this application is great, but I really just used it for essentially a "bore sight" of the dot. Once I got it out to the range, it was almost dead on.

      I HIGHLY recommend it. It's a really nice dot and the size is perfect. Even at about half power, I can still see the dot clearly in bright daylight with or without sunglasses on.

    You don't actually zero the red dot independent from the iron sights right? You just move the red dot so it lines up with the front sight?

    • @PrecisionTKS
      @PrecisionTKS  Рік тому +1

      Assuming the irons are properly sighted, that's one way to do it to get you close enough, especially with a shotgun. You need to have a rear ironnsight though to co-witness the sights though. Just a front bead wont cut it since your sight radius could potnetially change between the red dot and the bead.
      Once everything is sighted in however, the irons and the red dot will have the same POA and the gun will have the same POI.

    • @Baospacity
      @Baospacity 9 місяців тому +1

      So your saying we need to have the red dot line up with both front and rear iron sights? Not just the dot and front iron sight line up? Seems a little buys to me. I think I'd like the sights elevated but I'm worried about not getting a good cheek weld from having the sight too high.
      @@PrecisionTKS

    • @PrecisionTKS
      @PrecisionTKS  9 місяців тому

      Correct. That's a quick "close enough" way to get your dot sighted in. Due to the geometry of the glass, after it's is sighted, you don't need to align the dot with either of the other sights. It will align independently with your target. Basically, wherever the dot points is where your round will go.

    Am torn between SRO2 or RMR06 for a 590a1. Which for a SG?

    • @PrecisionTKS
      @PrecisionTKS  11 місяців тому +2

      I'd go with the SRO personally. Overall, the RMR isn't that much smaller than the SRO, but the SRO has a substantially larger FOV. Since we are talking about placing one on a long gun, which one would assume is not for concealment, overall size isn't a big concern, but the larger FOV will come in handy when trying to acquire a target and see the full shot pattern.

      @@PrecisionTKSthank you. Ordered that Scalarworks Sync03/SRO2 bundle. Am also a big Scalarworks fan. Have their mount/optic bundles on other kits with Aimpoints. This will be my first Trijicon optic and that FoV seems amazing. Also admittedly try to take care not to bang things around so max durability wasn’t the main criteria.

      @miles267 you'll definitely be happy with it. Just like with any quality tactical firearm though, it's meant to be abused. I'm not a huge fan of throwing my weapons in the water and dirt if I don't need to, but it's nice to know they'll still work in those conditions.

    Can this work on a beretta 1301 tactical?

    • @PrecisionTKS
      @PrecisionTKS  Рік тому

      You'd have to check the Scalarworks website for the mounting plate. I don't think they have one yet for the 1301, but you can look for the "Sync Integral Mounts" to verify.
      As for the optic, I'm sure it would as long as you can find an appropriate adapter plate/mounting plate for it.

      wondering the same thing. They have the RMR listed on the Scalarworks website as lower 1/8th co witness. The SRO sits a hair higher though so I know it's close. If you ended up going this route with your 1301 let me know bc this co-witness on his M4 looks right on the money for what I'm trying to achieve. Keep me posted! @@PrecisionTKS

    Thinking about running this setup but prefer the red dot on the SRO to be non obstructed by the irons. After you sighted it in is the SRO a direct cowitness to the ghost rings or a 1/3 cowitness?

    How do you like the 2.5 MOA? Would the 5.0 MOA be too big?

    • @PrecisionTKS
      @PrecisionTKS  2 роки тому +1

      Personally, I'd still go with the 2.5. I feel like the 5.0 would be too large for certain situations and if I really wanted to get a larger dot, I can crank up the brightness on the 2.5 and the refraction in/off the glass makes it get slightly larger. Just keep in mind that it's on a shotgun, which of course isn't a precision piece of equipment. The dot gets you on target and the patterned projectiles do the real work. Even at short range, your pattern will still be larger than a 5.0 MOA dot.

    How far down the Picatinny rail should I mount the Red dot?

    • @PrecisionTKS
      @PrecisionTKS  Рік тому

      In order to increase your sight axis, you want it as far away as possible from the shooter. To make it easier to see and increase your field of view through the glass, you want it as close as possible to the shooter. With all that being said, mount it where you are most comfortable with it and don't listen to anyone else.

      Most firearms on the market today have at least one piece of polymer somewhere in/on them. Yes, I agree that metal feels more substantial and says "quality" better than plastics, but there have been massive jumps in polymer technology over the past few decades and aren't nearly as bad as they used to be.
