We must remember that the prunes we buy, could be treated with chemicals, to speed up the drying process, to save money. It's very difficult to investigate the presence of these chemicals as they're not included on the list of ingredients, just like the chemicals added to the flour in the flour mill, aren't included on the label. Prunes are also very high in potassium, so if one has a banana for breakfast, one should forgo the prunes. In the ideal world, we should be making our own prunes, but that would be very expensive to have the dehydrator or the oven on for at least 18 hours, with the prices we have to pay now per kwh of gas or electricity. Also, like with all dry fruit, watch out for musty smell, slimy texture, as these products can contain mould! We need to wash all dry fruits, and even soak them for a while, to get rid off all sulphates, used in drying process. But that spoils the fun of munching on them whilst dry. So, I have spoiled the gun of eating dry fruit for everyone. But, I'm sure you can ignore everything I've written here and eat them in moderate quantities, from time to time, especially when you suddenly crave them. This is your body asking for something the prunes contain. I sometimes wake up at night and have to eat sauerkraut , that fermented cabbage or raw onions! We have to listen to our bodies, I think. Thank you for your video about prunes. :) You have rekindled my interest in eating better. Now, I have to put the information into action. It would help to have a better appetite.
Ultimately, listening to our bodies' signals and making informed choices about our dietary habits DOES contribute to overall well-being. I'm glad to hear that the video has rekindled your interest in eating better, and I wish you the best as you put this information into action.
@@DrSusanBrown sorry I have missed your kind reply. Since watching your videos, my body doesn't even crave any bad food. Food is as important as the prescribed medicines, or even more important, I think. We can completely ruin our livers for example, through eating too fatty foods. Thanks, good information. I sock the 5-6 prunes in the water for 24 hours to get rid of sugar. Is it still beneficiary for my osteoporosis as for male of 72?

Maybe it would help to have them alongside a lower sugar food, that combines well with it. (tastes OK, alongside) Another idea is to eat fewer (or less) prunes at one time; however, consume them at intervals more frequently? Celery is a quick (easy to prepare) veggie, along with a small bits of cheese. The latter snack might go OK with prunes, and reduce blood sugar spikes. Some baby-foods are a good way to get prunes, if quality or availability in store fluctuates. I've found that, for me, it's more economical than buying "prune juice". Always make sure it's organic, either way.
@@gentleoldmoviefan5680 you think they take the sugar out for babies. I think baby foods are worse. I think to boil water, turn it off, cut the prunes in half and throw them in for 10 minutes. I'd also save the cooled water for my veggy, kale shake. I'm going to try it. And test my bs.
To address concerns about added sulfates or sulfites as potential thyroid disruptors, it's important to understand that sulfites are preservatives commonly used in food and beverages. While they can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, there's no conclusive evidence linking sulfites directly to thyroid disruption. However, those with thyroid conditions or sensitivities should consult a healthcare provider before consuming products with these additives.

Hello, i have a question about muscle twitching About 10 months ago i noticed my eyelid started twitching. Soon my calves and triceps started twitching. After a few weeks, eyelid stopped. And the twitching was still present in the calves. Some days a lot and i felt them when i relaxed and some days i could only see them and not feel them. I went to neuro, he said they are benign, and i had a low vitamin D 21yg/L and also my calcium was a bit elevated and it was 2,6 mmol/L. Twitching is still here, i noticed that when i increase milk products they maybe get worse. What do you think what should i do next? Have a nice day
I would make an electrolyte drink. Calcium 1,000mg, magnesium 450mg, potassium 4,700, salt 1,500mg. I would save the cooled prune water for taste. Yes, most doctors are not taught this in school.
Hi! While bottled prune juice may help certain individuals, these juices often contain ingredients other than prunes, such as sugar. Something to keep in mind!
@@DrSusanBrown Okay appreciate your reply, the one I'm looking at is 100% prune juice with no additives, so I'm assuming I should be okay with that option
While both plums and prunes are rich in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin K, potassium, and antioxidants, the concentration of these nutrients is higher in prunes due to the drying process.
That's fine! Whether prunes are consumed in their dried form or rehydrated/cooked, they provide similar health benefits. The choice of consumption method may depend on personal preference, culinary use, or digestive comfort.
Hi Dr. Brown is vitamin d3 125mcg (5,000 IU) good to take with magnesium theronate on and off, I mean not every day. Also what do you think about taking calcium as well.
If you you plan to take calcium pls take vit K2M7 with vit D3 . Vit D3 vit K2M7 will deposit the calcium in the bones and teeth and not on the soft tissues

Both prunes (dried plums) and fresh plums are beneficial for bone health, but prunes are particularly noted for their positive effects on bones. Research has shown that prunes are especially effective in maintaining and enhancing bone density. They are rich in nutrients such as vitamin K, magnesium, potassium, and boron, all of which are important for bone health. Prunes also have a high content of polyphenols, which help to reduce bone loss. A number of studies have specifically linked the consumption of prunes with improved bone mineral density and decreased risk of osteoporosis. While fresh plums also contain these nutrients, their concentrations are more potent in dried form; hence, prunes are generally considered better for bone health due to their nutrient density and the specific benefits observed in clinical studies. Incorporating prunes into your diet can be a practical way to boost bone health, especially if you are concerned about osteoporosis or bone density.

Hi, I wonder how many dried prunes one has to eat daily to have the benefits for the bone health? Thank you.
She said half a cup. Sounds like 2 prunes.
I eat 5 to 6 prunes a day because that is the serving amount for the brands i buy. I guess that would equal to half a cup, I never measured them.
The research said 9-10. Most people would have loose stools with that much. 5-6 also showed it helped.
Prunes increased my potassium too much
I will only eat one or two prunes a day. Anymore than that is too much. It could make you too regular. 😯
