When my mother was 80 she fell backwards over a railing in her garage - probably a 4 ft drop. Landed on her head between the stairs & car. Knocked her out. She had lupus & osteoporosis diagnoses but she didn’t break a bone. Obviously more to it than bone density.

I have just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. What I was told was to take this pill. That was it. There was no dialogue or plan to follow with my doctor. Even with a second visit I could not get her to talk. I was told it just happens. I am a bariatric patient and I feel this has played a role in my sudden appearance of osteoporosis. I am initiating getting a referral to a bone and mineral clinic. Thank you for your video Dr. Brown. It has confirmed many thoughts I have had on the subject.

HI Kathleen, we hear this all too often from clients and believe women can build strong bone, naturally. We have many resources available over on our free bone health community platform we call 'The Tribe' where we bring together women who want to understand the underlying causes of their bone loss to learn, share and grow together so that they can increase calm, reduce anxiety, and no longer live in fear of Osteoporosis! 🦴drbrown.cc/3lByM6k
We have also put together a comprehensive natural bone health program used successfully for over 30 years, now available as an online Masterclass, that you can take anytime, in addition to our next In-Person retreat held this May in Massachusetts, at the beautiful Kripalu facilities in the Berkshires. Thank you so much for all of your videos. I am learning so much from watching them. I've been working out daily for 33 years (cardio and lifting weights). I am 59 years old and I had my first DEXA last year and I am in Osteopenia however, my left femoral neck is OP at (-2.8). My internist thinks it could be a DEXA error because my right hip is good. My TBS is excellent and of course I am concerned about breaking a hip (no fractures thus far). I was taking a benzodiazepine (for sleep) and I just learned that Benzo's can depletes D3 and years ago while on the a Benzo my D3 was 12. My D3 is now 74 and I am off the drug 8 1/2 year. My GYN ran every imaginable test including a 24 hour urine test and PTH and all was normal, and she said my OP is due to menopause. I am continuing to work out 7 days a week and focussing on hip exercises (I have been using a hip abductor machine for 15 years). I am hoping that I will be able to increase my T scores in my left femoral neck. Of course I am hoping that my OP was an error. Once again thank you for all of your endless videos.

Ever since I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in March of this year all I've done is obsess about my bones I'm treating my osteoporosis naturally and all I ever think about is my bones Best foods supplements exercise for my bones I keep forgetting the rest of my body needs nutrition as well, osteoporosis has taken over my mind but I'm trying to balance things out because I'm also trying to put on muscle and I know I have to focus my diet on not only bone strength but muscle building, and now I'm worried about oxalates! I just learned that oxalates prevent the body from absorbing bone building minerals AAAWW it's overwhelming! I love eating healthy and exercising it's just so hard and with oxalates should I really be worried about oxalates? What can I do to not be so obsessive always worrying about my bones all the time?

Because these foods are still healthy shouldn't the nutrition outweigh the downside of the phytates and oxalates?

Dr. Brown, Thanks for all your hard work and educational efforts in this
important health area. I'm an admirer of a few other holistic
practitioners and advisers also [for general health] , which I've
discovered through recent research about strengthening the immune
system. In that research, I've read that Thomas E. Levy, MD, JD
believes osteoporosis is "scurvy of the bones" and recommends / espouses
high dose Vitamin C. I don't know details about treatment regime he
    advocates for the condition.
SIDE NOTE: Dr. Suzanne Humphries also thinks osteoporosis = scurvy of
the bones. Both doctors probably have a somewhat broad definition of
"scurvy", to state the obvious. And both doctors (each excellent in
their own ways, IMHO) seem to regard Vitamin C as an essential nutrient,
all by itself, versus being "just" a vitamin like all the others.
I believe that only certain *specific types* of Vitamin C are
recommended: 1) a more expensive type - which doesn't irritate the
bowels as much (liposomal form) and has superior absorption, and 2) a
less expensive type (sodium ascorbate, or ascorbic acid), which is more
affordable for some people. Do you have any thoughts on the role of
Vitamin C in helping with osteoporosis?

Interesting point about the bones maintain the Ph Balance in the body and bones are broken down when needed to balance acidity. Maybe this is why Tum's, an antacid, is prescribed for some to help with low bone density. When I broke my foot in India and went to the top hospital in the area, I was given an antacid to take before breakfast and dinner along with calcium supplements that included K2-7 and an herb called cissus quadrangularis and an anti-inflammatory pill to take after breakfast and dinner.

    • @DrSusanBrown
      @DrSusanBrown  8 місяців тому

Tum's are definitely not the answer! We need to add minerals to buffer the acids, and work on LIFEstyle and diet choices to reduce the acid created in our bodies. www.betterbones.com/bone-health-basics/ppi-antacids-increase-fracture-risk/

      Hello Helene!
It is true that excess protein in the face of mineral inadequacy can weaken bone. Too much protein causes an increase in acid in the body, which therefore breaks down bone. Yes, you can take D3, K2, and magnesium together. We prefer a very absorbable source of Magnesium that is in the Ionized Magnesium alkalineforlife.com/products/ionized-magnesium?_pos=1&_sid=723dc7e50&_ss=r. It is recommended to take Vitamin D3 in the morning with a meal preferably with a meal containing fat for best absorption and Vitamin K can be taken at the same time. Magnesium can be taken with any meal, however many people take it in the evening before bed for relaxation and to help with sleep.

I eat whole foods very little sugar. They have done the blood test to rule out causes of the osteoporosis and chalk it up to previous intake of trileptal and menopause. My sister had HER2 breast cancer so they took me off estrogen. You mentioned in this video rethinking breast cancer in relation to treating osteoporosis. Should I get a second opinion on stopping estrogen. I have had a rib fracture and a wrist fracture and my spine is showing degeneration and anterolithesis. I'm feeling desperate.
