Dwarf ranger is a good counterfirer. You can just throw a smoke bomb move out of the way and snipe all the ratling gunner and gasbombers you can. I guess the Ale is a modest buff to the tankiness for you and your team. Not completely worthless. Outcast Engineer is great as long as you remember to throw bombs regularly. They seem to take more damage than other careers. But they're bomb making skills with nullified friendly fire is super.
