      There are also magnetic blocks that can be used as a wall to lean your fabric edge against. But the tape worked great too!

    Excellent video. Thanks for providing the measurements of the fabric for a standard pillow. I can't wait to try this. I'm going to use the dust ruffle that came with my comforter set since I don't use a dust ruffle and the fabric matches the back of the comforter. Thanks for reminding me to wash it first!

    So is your sham one inch smaller because of the seam allowance? That's the only part that's not clear. It seems like you cut the fabric the same size as the pillow plus the 3" for the flange but then said that it's one inch smaller to make it fluffier. So, is it the seam allowance that makes it one inch smaller?
    Also, you said to add eight inches to the width of the back piece, so that you can cut it in half for the envelope effect. But your measurement ( 35") only reflects adding six inches, not eight. Am I not understanding? Please tell me if I am getting this wrong! However, your assembly is very clear and your pillows look great!

    Question. When cutting the backing fabric you say to add 8" and then you say "That makes mine 35" x 23". When I add 8" to 29" I get 37." So which is correct?

    • @onlinefabricstore
      @onlinefabricstore  5 років тому

      Hi Sue, sorry about that! Either one is actually fine since the amount the back pieces overlap isn't all that important. Adding 8 inches (39 inches total) is a little safer to make sure the opening doesn't gap, especially for fuller pillows.

    I am new to sewing. I had to stop every 2 seconds and write down instructions. It seems doable but you went so fast. That is why I have to stop often and write stuff down. Would be nice to have a written pattern available, Guess I am just old school and not familiar with how to sew. I just got a sewing machine and excited to use it.

    Dimensions for front cut at 23X29. Says to make the back 8" larger but she cut it 23X35? So which is it? 6 or 8"?

    • @onlinefabricstore
      @onlinefabricstore  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for spotting that error! It could be either, really. If you have a very full pillow, a larger overlap is better, so go with the 8 inches. Otherwise, the 6 inches is generally fine, but 8 inches wouldn't hurt.

  • @tlt43
    @tlt43 3 роки тому

      Hi Michele, I can't think of a good way to do it with the flanges, but if you make it without the flanges, you could put a zipper on the bottom. This video shows how (the zipper part starts at minute 6:00): ua-cam.com/video/WH1msuBeIB8/v-deo.htmlm

    Confused by the back measurements as your front is 29x23 and you said to add 8 inches to the long side....if I add 8 to 29 that is 37 not 35 ..... show should it be 8 or 6 inches to add

    • @onlinefabricstore
      @onlinefabricstore  3 роки тому +1

      This is a great catch. We did only add 6 inches to this measurement. You could do either, the extra two inches would give you more overlay.

    If the pillow is 20x26 and you are cutting 23x29 (pillow size plus 2x the flange width of 1.5) how is that one inch smaller? Am I missing something? Thanks.

    • @tlt43
      @tlt43 3 роки тому +2

      I was wondering the same thing, but then realized that it's one inch smaller because she sewed a half inch seam allowance all the way around. That makes it one inch smaller all around.

    I am trying to figure out your measurements.
    You have a standard pillow (20×26) with 1 1/2" flange.
    You then said to cut the back the same height as the front piece (23×29) and 8" longer. That does not add to 35" in my math.
    Please help!
    In the beginning you said you would make the sham 1" smaller than the pillow. I am confused.
