triple a build the core features and then ship it, those deadlines are determined by core features, there is no room for - wouldn't it be awesome, we really need to do something here, etc etc etc it's the intangibles that make a great game, all the stuff you do to make a game great beyond the core features - to do this you need to have a team driven by passion and not deadlines, as such it's very rare these days for a triple a developer to produce a game like this
This game has so much potential. It just needs more content like you said mack. Its definitely lacking large cities, better ai, and even bridges. Just needs time for it grow into a relaxing modern testdrive experience.
I'm really torn on this kind of game. For one, I don't play games just to work a second job. On the other hand though, how can they give actual weight and value to the cars if they just hand them over to you? The answer's there somewhere, but I don't know what it is.

When you aren't pressured to haul-ass and manage a crew and juggle real life problems within a game though, well then, that could be actual fun. A relaxed pace kind of getting the feel for a different line of work that you probably would never try in real life, or couldn't, has a certain appeal however. As someone that has driven truck for a living I do think this could be fun if you get to do the parts you enjoy but skip over the ones you don't and do it all at whatever pace you feel like. I agree with Mack that if this had AAA graphics and a larger world I think it could be GOTY material easy. Not that it would be in their lists, as it wouldn't even be on their radar, but it might be worthy at least.
@@arnox4554 It´s certainly not for everyone. To me, it´s the perfect after work relaxation fun. Slap on a radio station from the menus and just chill. Game also seems to have a super developer and it clearly has a bright future ahead of it. Oh and it´s damn cheap aswell.
Mack, I've been playing driving/racing games my whole life, it's my favorite genre of game. But I didn't realize before what a driving game could feel like until I played this game. I thought you were exaggerating, but this game really feels fantastic to play. Thank you for promoting these smaller developers that are delivering great games!

It seems to me that single-creator games (or those with very small, closely knitted teams) have a huge advantage over AAAs. There's just no comparison really - you have a focussed vision, with no one coming in with their "own ideas" or disagreeing about how things should be. Look at stuff like Hades, Valheim, even Minecraft. All such brilliant games which came out of just a few people's minds.
I fucking adore this channel and Mack. Thank you for saving me so much money and giving us your honest take on games. I've disagreed on several games but to each their own, still respect your opinion immensely. Hey Mack! If you're into this stuff, I can recommend another early access game called Sailwind. It need more content and patching but it's really immersive and relaxing sailing the ocean, using navigation tools or just making short runs around the islands.

Ever since we lost TotalBiscuit (and his WTF Is?) series, your channel has become my first stop for learning about new indie and niche games in order to make my purchase decisions... Valheim was the first one (and got me subbed), then Mr Prepper, Going Medieval, and now MotorTown... And they've all been :chefkiss: marvelous! But more than just that, the way you review really helps me to figure out which *great* games simply aren't in my wheelhouse. There are plenty of Thumbs Up games that just aren't for me, and I really appreciate that your reviews aren't hyping them, or trying to make me like them just as much as you do, they just frame the style and substance of each game in a way that accurately represents the experience I'd be having if I played it. You seem like someone who understands the power of rhetoric, and yet you eschew it, and I respect that immensely.
This would be great to chill with in VR, so I hope it gets support eventually. The low-poly aesthetic would probably make this a great Quest 2 game also.
Sadly I don't think it would run well on a quest 2 VR games take a good amount of graphical power already, but this game on flatscreen at 1080p on my PC that has an rx 590 and a ryzen 7 1700 runs at 60 fps smooth, but in some areas dips down to 25 fps. They definitely would need to optimize it before doing anything with VR, although I do hope that they try.
It seems like a nice game, I look forward to the full release when the map is better fleshed out and more features are in. Very promising. Hope you can get back to this when it's out, cheers Mack

yes mack! i got this game running on my 2nd screen even while im working, doing truck deliveries in the background, its so great. in the options u can even cycle trough internet radio stations.
I'm personally a big fan of American Truck Simulator, so this looks right up my alley. The developer says it has steering wheel support, and VR isn't a priority but is on the to-do list. Looks like an excellent game and I'll definitely be buying. Great video as always, Mack!

Mack ! .... This game is Astroneer on Earth ... Look at the map pins hovering , The way the guy walks & Jumps , The scenery . Nobody else sees it but I am 100% sure . Cracking game though . Get a flatbed truck & see how many parcels you can strap onto it . Grab pallets first then get small crates & boxes & pile them high ! Cruise around in a police car picking up hitchikers , Deliver sand & Cement . Drive the kids to school . Pick up broken down cars ... The list goes on . Had this game 10 days & already put 50 hours into it . Chilling while Listening to the Radio . Can't wait to see how this goes especially when the airport opens up (Wink)

Nice! This actually looks like pretty great. I love the way the game looks. I love low poly 3D stuff though. And +100 dude, this game looks like it's from the future compared to stuff I grew up with. Shit I've been bitten by the retro bug myself and have been really enjoying TheC64 device and all the C64 games around. There are so many great ones I missed. The game is incredibly relaxing. I bought it a few months back and played it pretty hard. I will say one thing though, the grind is real. It is enjoyable but it will get slow in progress quickly.
Thanks for that. I actually find that refreshing given how so many things today are so rushed and the leveling up is so unearned. Maybe this has too slow a pace in that regard, but I prefer it to lean more in that direction anyway. I enjoy really appreciating the new thing I bought after saving for it and I find it so much more satisfying that way, kind of like real life.

Just played the demo and I am getting the full game next. I prefer games where I can earn the better vehicles rather than being given to me on a silver platter. I think it makes us appreciate the game more than those where you can speed through it. I prefer indie games like this and I hope more will come. Someday I am going to make a game myself as I like these type of games and I may do something related to railways. I love this game.
it's alright, about 5 hours in you've already done whats needed to be done, hopefully, the devs have a good roadmap for the direction they're going to take this game, ill keep an eye on it.
If AAA made this game then you would only be able to drive trucks for delivery and every other driving type would be DLC. Oh and microtransactions for different car colours. It's so good to see things like this in the right area of the gaming industry.
If you like driving delivery trucks I recommend trying out Euro Truck Simulator - the driving model is solid, the graphics are really nice and the map is pretty huge with all DLC these days.
Been playing Motor Town since the very first public demo build, fantastic game with engrossing gameplay mechanics. Indie devs are making the best games because they don't have to deal with greedy executives or stockholders. This is just pure game development in its purest form and I love it.
I Told you that you'll like it Mack! And yeah it's one person. Recently they've hired another person to help with the world building, but the actual game until now was made by one person.
It used to be a great game but now devs wanted to make the game even more grindy. You get much less money now. For the game that doesn't have pay to win system, I don't even understand why they chose to do this.
I still play TDU2 to this day, can't wait to see if Solar Crown will keep the same spirit... this one looks interesting. You may like Euro Truck Simulator 2, can open a business in Liverpool, cross the Euro tunnel and crash driving on the other side of the frogs, ehem I mean of the road ;)
They also show you can make good use of bought assets. The models are mostly from the Synty packs, and I'm not sure if he/she programmed the driving itself, but there are some really great driving assets to get from the unity store too that feel much better then most AAA driving games.

How is this compared to the various truck simulator games or a game like snowrunner?

I Told you that you'll like it Mack! And yeah it's one person. Recently they've hired another person to help with the world building, but the actual game until now was made by one person.

It used to be a great game but now devs wanted to make the game even more grindy. You get much less money now. For the game that doesn't have pay to win system, I don't even understand why they chose to do this.
Saw slap first play this I thought it looked alright. Ill have to try to get my hands on this when I finally finish building my PC.
Is there any X-Ray vision? Do we get rep and bank for completing missions?
I still play TDU2 to this day, can't wait to see if Solar Crown will keep the same spirit... this one looks interesting. You may like Euro Truck Simulator 2, can open a business in Liverpool, cross the Euro tunnel and crash driving on the other side of the frogs, ehem I mean of the road ;)

They also show you can make good use of bought assets. The models are mostly from the Synty packs, and I'm not sure if he/she programmed the driving itself, but there are some really great driving assets to get from the unity store too that feel much better then most AAA driving games.
Gotta say fella, truly have had one of the worst days I've ever.. ever... in my nach. But this little gem, is just the tonic. Cheers 🍻
