5: Hong also taught that when he learned from Chen Fake there was no shifting of the center to the right, left, backward or forward. "An axis of a wheel can only rotate, not shift" according to Hong's writings from his interpretation of the classics. Therefore, the center in a same posture always remains in the center and you can power up with either leg. You only shift the center when taking a step.
When I first saw this video, I practiced Chen Style Taijiquan for about 5 years, and now as then I have been very impressed by the intensity shown here. The power displayed relies on the center being kept, as it emerges to the outer body parts, hands and feet. The back is never crooked, no matter which position. Within the Fajin, the center is still, or only rotates, as the extremeties extend. I can't make it out everywhere yet, but in some positions it can be observed very clearly that particular body parts move seperately, fullfilling the requirement of at least one body part not moving to make it a 'Taiji'-action: yin & yang, one part moving, another perfectly still. As far as I can tell, this high accuracy is still rare to be found elsewhere, and even more rarely being taught with this precision. Thanks to Master Chen Zhonghua for going round the world and passing on his knowledge!
4 years after starting to go deeper into "Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method" I have to say this recording didn't stop to be a major inspiration for me. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Master Chen!Consolidated rotations throughout the form. The center truly does not move. In this way the line comes out through constant yin yang separation, creating the "wheel" of Taiji, also referred below.
Master Chen shows a flowing version of our yilu, illustrating internal moves that sometimes continue into external fa-jing moves. One can also see spiral movements with the shun and ni actions and many examples of the yin yang separation, or 2 way movements. Thank you Master Chen
7:In terms of Shifu's energy "not seeming to come from the lower body", a characteristic of an internal martial art is that advanced movements cannot be seen by onlooker. In other words, his lower body is doing joint rotations, no movements (other than rotation which we define as not really a "move"). If you were taking one of our workshops, this question he would answer it by letting you feel his kua while he does the posture.
6: When you shift the center in that case, you do it without moving the spine side to side, but by just opening and sitting on that kua and the opposite leg will then be light in order to move it. When you finish taking the step, the datien returns to the center.
Xavier 3: Hong redefined double heavy as both sides of the body not being able to move or act in the same direction. If you want to emit power from the right hand, use the left foot for power or vice versa. If two body parts act in the same direction, that is Hong's definition of Double Heavy. He completely disagreed with the conventional view of "double heavy being a horse stance with 50/50 weight distribution".
Xavier 2: Hong studied uninterrupted with Chen Fake for 15 years until he moved to Jinan during WWII. Hong taught in Jinan until he came back for 4 months of final corrections from Chen Fake in 1956.
Xavier Santiago Here is an explanation from my perspective in the Chen style Taijiquan Practical Method lineage of Hong Junsheng. None of this explanation is to put down other Chen style lineages, only to explain why we are different. My Shifu, Chen Zhonghua is performing Yi Lu as he learned it from Shigung Hong Junsheng. All his moves come from Hong Junsheng's teachings. Hong Junsheng was one of Chen Fake's first students in Beijing in the 1930s.

8: There you will actually feel that his joints are rotating in place instead of moving and therefore the posture's force does not leak out. It comes from the opposite foot, transmitted by the kua and out through the hand or wherever the contact point is with the opponent.
Xavier 4: Hong based this in the teachings of Chen Fake, The Taijiquan classic of Wang Zongyue, and Chen Xin's book. Hong did not believe that a simple weight shift was to resolve the "mistake of double heavy if the classics said that "this issue requires thorough study". Hong in his writings viewed the idea of double heavy being a horse stance as a misinterpretation of the classics.... See More
I had watched one of the videos of master where he was explaining the purpose of forty-five in tai chi . Can any one share this video link to me as I have lost this video. Thanks in advance
45% is used in all the moves so no power can be transferred to you by the opponent, instead their force slides off your structure because the angle is too steep. - To practice, make all the angles in your form that would come into contact with a line of force 45% to dissipate opponents power transfer.
I guess he is showing the internal stage called mingjin? I assumed that because it is obvious where he releases power from the tension. Anyone let me know? Thanks!
If his power is obvious and tense, how is it highest level? Search his teacher feng Zhiqiang or, another disciple of Feng, wilson wu. That's the highest level

What's the use only to watch even the best performance? Can anybody repeat this form only bywatching the video? What about secrets and little hidden moves?
+Belarus your right. I would say there is no highest level. the highest level goes on. it depends on the individual and how much. where they take there human potential. I think.
No one can learn this by watching the video only. It takes years to reach the level seen here. And much of this style Tai chi is the internal moves... cannot be seen so easily. There's many parts to learning this; you need an actual teacher. Another aspect - you could be doing incorrectly and you will never know.
The form makes you internally stronger and taijiquan practitioners are 99 miles away from heart attacks when they do such excersizes. In other words the total opposite of a H.A.

Indeed, Michael!
This is one of the most intense demonstrations of the Yi Li I've seen. Most Impressive!
Impressive. Master Chen has his own style and yet sticks to the very principle of the practical method.

Wow...we just watched this in Chen Tai Chi class last night and here is the full set.
Wonderful spirals and use of fa jin...an inspiration!
And he is a fantastic teacher too. That I can ascertain!

Agree! I like to watch this every day. Very inspirational

Beautiful form. I have not studied under this teacher, but I have admired his form over the years.

Excellent demonstration Master Chen.....I love this form.....you have set a lofty and worthy goal for your students to pursue in life

whoa! the practical method of chen style looks badass! like the combat version! me likey!
this is beautiful and very interesting performance! Full of 刚劲 even in Yi lu! Amazing performance of master Chen!
I just started training this form. It is much more difficult than it appears.
Yes it is! Takes years. It's a gradual process to even understand all the important parts involved.
@richnwood2000 Because that is how it is supposed to be done. You can move other parts of the body which is called "leaking out".
Hi Sifu !
I love it !
🙏
His heart is recorded by the microphone. Pretty fast high rate. Quite intense activity.
Yeah, doing this form with intensity is pretty damn tiring.
Some of his breathing is so intense he almost sounds like he's in pain. I like it.
This guy looks like he's awesome at life.
I think there is a lot to learn from his interpretation of the form. What power!
@kidaries Yeah, I can hear it too! That is probably because the mic is close to his pulse on the neck.
I had watched one of the videos of master where he was explaining the purpose of forty-five in tai chi . Can any one share this video link to me as I have lost this video. Thanks in advance

Strong heart

My understanding is huajin stage isn't noticeable at all.

Alguien sabe como se llama este genero de musica?
Es música tradicional china. Busca los instrumentos chinos tradicionales en wikipedia y encontrarás música de este estilo.
Good
wow!!! now that's tai chi.... pretty accurate...

It sounds like he's got a mic attached on his upper body somewhere.

It all conscious activity. When activity is done with awareness there is beauty and grace. You know Tai chi when you can sense beauty and grace.
why was his breath so heavy?
something wrong.
muscles, yes.
breath, wrong.
呼吸硬.......?
Breathing not hard. Understanding wrong.
seems he is going to have a heart attack along all the form. I don t like it.
