It seems like the street is commercialized. The British renamed the city from Stabroek to Georgetown after King George III of England on April 29, 1812. Georgetown became a city in 1842. In fact, the first Traffic light was installed on Regent in Guyana. Awesome video - Thank You.
Very nice informative video. I used to work at Regent and Camp Sts at Royal Bank eons ago. It has changed so much The music could be softer, so it doesn't drown out you comments. Oh boy, those intersections are scary, they all need traffic lights. Tourists would be petrified to drive there. I guess they will be coming as Guyana gets more income. It is really needed...just chaotic mess it seems like now. There is a new grey concrete building going up, as you were approaching Camp St on the right...the front has no windows, flat concrete up for 4 or 5 floors..looks like a jail. No design whatsoever, who gives a permit to build a building light that. Amazing. Glad to see all the new developments on Regent street, use to walk up and down that street. A lot of memories. Thanks.
Hallo mrs. Chandani, its a pleasure to watch your video about the capital of Guyana, Georgetown. Nice to listen to your explanation of all places of interest allong this main road in Georgetown, called Regent street. I can say quite a long and very busy street and neighbourhood. I enjoyed your video and was watching from Paramaribo in Suriname..... mr. Marty
Nice video, I used to live on south road between light n Albert St, in the 80s ,so I used to go along regent st, but the only place I remember is borda market 😃, hope somebody recognize me🙏🤗
Well informative narration. Liked the little history piece. The buildings as you mentioned are taller, wider and newer which adds a modern flavor to the mix. Good to know about the restaurant with a great lowmein. Keep on giving the little tidbits on what you think visitors need to know as quite a lot has changed and what may be new, replaced or no more. Worked at the Metropole on Robb & Wellington streets back in the 70’s which was just a short block over and used frequently to get to and from work so I was very familiar with Regent St. Has always been a bustling street and more so now I imagine. Can’t wait for the Robb St vlog. National, Rendezvous and Oasis restaurants, some of my hangout spots located on that street. And for some, Metropole Cinema one of a few where you saw the latest movies. 👍
I visited Guyana once and while i was there attempted to walk the entire Regent Street. it was really nice and the people were awesome. your video is really good it brings back memories.
Hey Chandani, another great informative video. BTW, you'll probably see comments from me coming now up since I've just come across your channel and I'm touring my home country (left almost 40 years ago) through you.😉 The thing that struck me (apart from all the bigger buildings now) in this video was that there were hardly any potholes in the street! lol! When I lived there we used to joke about how "deh gat mo pothole than street an yuh almos got tuh drive up pun de pavment to avoid dem"! lol! Sad to see the City Hall in such disrepair and glad that they're restoring it. (I used to work there in the Treasury department where you pay your rates and taxes)
Nice video guys 👍👍 I just watched it again 👍and I heard you talking about the best lo mien that you had in Guyana 😊 well the best lo mien that I even had in Guyana 🇬🇾 was at a Chinese restaurant located at Durban and camp St back in the days 😁👍👍✋
Uncontrolled traffic is insane for a capital city in a main business district such as this. Unregulated growth will also have a limiting impact on the future in the middle and longer terms. I expect politicians and officials have been enriching themselves personally to allow things to just keep going any which way without direction.
I love you showing places, I used to go to a Private school there in 1968, but please leave out the music, it takes away from what you are showing us. Thank you, my school was closer to cricket ground.
Assalaam Alaikum! Very good 👍🏽. Nice histories and beautiful commentary..Its a really busy street ,I'm surprised that there's aren't traffic lights thought. You did an amazing job here..looking forward to the next post.❤🇬🇾🇬🇾👌❤🙏💯💯
Your videos are good, but the background music is very loud and annoying. The music is very loud in relation to your voice. I have to lower the volume when the music comes on and then raise it when you are speaking.
Actually, Georgetown or George Town is is the capital of several countries. - Georgetown is the capital of Ascension Island. - George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands As an aside, while it is not the capital city of Malaysia... George Town is the capital of the state of Penang in Malaysia.
Looking at regent street, there are no road markings as to how traffic should abide by!Heavens know how a stranger can manipulate any crossroad. Any guess why accidents occur? Please guys, get civilised!
I don’t see anything that I used to know when I was a little girl. I went back home in 1971 and not one of these places were there. I went back again in 1975 , and things there were still the same, then I went back in 2000 and just a hand full of new places. Now it is a whole new ball game and I have no strength or inclination of flying those long journeys. Unlike most of the Islands , South America and Latin America Guyana climate is still tolerable like Cuba, but I cannot cope with the heat in the other places. I have gotten accustomed to the weather in North America. Because of my chronic asthma I cannot fly over four hours because the air on the planes are circulating air, but if I am going to Europe and those middle Eastern and Mediterranean country I am lucky I get to go with my son’s company’s private plane with a few days lay over. It would be nice to see all the new places, but old age is now taking over our bodies. Thanks for showing us, if only you can go slowly so we can pick out places that would of been nice.
Fantastic video and absolutely enjoyable. I’m very much looking forward to the next one 😊
Here watching and showing support
