I used to be a yardie a few years back and we would often forklift cars out of tautliners and other trucks. I was always the one to do it because I was a car guy and actually gave a shit about the car. Always had a stack of blocks sitting behind my seat that I’d put between the forks and whatever the most substantial point to lift under the car. An extra ten minutes taken meant we never caused any damage and the boss never had to pay out for damages. Everyone’s happy.
Benny, be glad they didn't lose your keys like they have with my car, brand new keys I've had made days prior to shipping, blanks that aren't available in the new home.
Great to see the Cresta back home Benny. love the channel keep up the good work. I would have thought that the container yard people would have taken a little bit more care moving the Cresta but themes the brakes some people just don't care. Looking forward to catching up with you on the next Drag Challenge.
Pumping out the fuel isn't that unusual but normally it would be more common to see if it was airfreight not a container deal. However they could still be doing it to avoid any chance someone wants to push a dangerous goods deal with any customs clearance etc. We ship aircraft engines for work (air freight not container jobs) and we purely purge the engines for DG reasons).
This is correct, for a vehicle to be considered not a dangerous good, it needs to have an empty fuel tank under the International maritime code, or be shipped on a specific vessel. International carriers have been cracking down on hiden dangerous goods over the last few years. I work in regs and the price skyrockets anytime an MO41 needs to be filled out.
@BennysCustomWorks this is it mate, IMDG code considers a full tank to be a DG parcel which costs a lot more to deal with than 30L of fuel. AMSA doesn't even like us taking 20L jerry cans out to lighthouses in WA
you're a smart guy and a decent fabricator Benny, surely you could make a couple of 50x50mm rails from box steel . that would provide a lower lifting point for the forklifts to bash on.... make them a bolt on rail and attach before it goes to the shipyard.
Was going to say that compact air powered wrench looked really handy until it couldn't get the bolt off and you had to get the breaker bar out anyway! Cheers Benny. Another enjoyable video.
New dump pipe... future Benny's problem. ;) Glad to see you have your car back at home where you can work on it and enjoy it more, rather than it sitting in storage in the US.
Sounds like you might've been better off buying and giving away a trailer in the States, that's a huge U-Haul bill! I imagine you could install travel protection but freight handlers and stevedores may find ways to damage things even if you cover the whole car with steel plates and rubber baby buggy bumpers.
Yeah, there's no "may" about it. They will damage it. I've worked in the transport industry at an international terminal and seen it happen in real time.
(Yes, vapour is what ignites, Benny, and an almost-empty tank can make a bigger boom than a full one, but especially with anything like a modern evap/vapour recovery system, the risks are about equal, unless the car is being shot at or something. A more-full-tank might slosh and leak, more often, cause of the hoses and all, or make a bigger pudle if a fuel line goes. I presume the Cresta has a drag racing cell in it? I expect those are as safe as they could make em. Gasoline in a well-ventilated pan will put out a match. But puddles in an enclosed space make vapours too. )
I’m surprised the Uhaul cost so much. I had one the same size for a week, drove it across Canada with unlimited mileage one way, and the bill was $300.
it may sound funny but i get that you have your area for filming but i like seeing the raw workshop area with the parts in the back ground. it seems a bit of a fake area. I'm not complaining and you do a good job and ill keep watching
Genuinely curious as to what you think has caused flex plate to come lose. Considering its dowelled as its ‘meant’ to be the ‘be all end all’. And also whether you may consider a retainer kit would be a preventative measure
Lock wire is the only thing I've found that 100% works to stop critical bits falling off a race car. Stud lock where that's not possible but disassembly is a pain with heat required.
@6:50 A whole airplane was lost on the same set of facts. Fuel vapor - at Stoich - it's a bomb. TWA Flight 800 right there... If the fuel tank was full, no boom...
Reckon you're onto it with the forklift fuel. Same as when your car ends up at a towies yard, plenty of randoms floating around with a hose and drum...
That damage has been caused by carelessness. It wouldn’t have taken much effort to prevent that from happening. You’re taking it very well considering the cost of shipping the car. I’d be claiming damages from the shipping company.
They drain the fuel out of the car for environmental, contamination reasons. If the fuel starts leaking, it can get into the water and boats are not allowed to leak.
20:00 don't try to explain why use mig over tig sometimes 😂 those who know, they know. for the rest, let them teach others how to make shit from the confort of their keyboards
Yikes, that U-Haul bill is insane. That's well within reason of buying something off FB Marketplace and flipping it when you're done. Even if you gave it away, buying it outright wouldn't be that much.
While i understand being accepting of the 'Its just going to happen when you ship a car' mentality, at best it will never be fixed and at worse it will continue to degrade unless accountability / pressure if maintained. Why change the 'Ship happens' attitude if the customer accepts it while still being bent over.
If/when you were to go back to the states, is it worth getting your own trailer for the drag and drives rather than renting a U-Haul? or is that another shit show within itself?
Well, now you have more you tube content. You're welcome, from a typical U.S. company that doesn't care about anything but profit and will sacrifice all your hard work for their bottom line.

Seems like you're one of the rare few that gives a damn, good one 👍🏽
Keep going with the box mate, I enjoyed the vid and wanna see you finish it
LOL, as soon as you said exhaust leak and it's been on a boat my go to was "I bet it was a sloppy forkie" ;)

Ah bugger :( sorry to hear mate
Superb to see the legend back on your lift, chap. Keen for more.
12k to ship there, 7.5k to ship it back, and they're using f'n forklifts to move it around. that's kinda fucked
That's reality for you.
do you know how expensive containers are out of the US. ridiculous!
$20,000 in shipping is ultimately nothing….
@@Luke.young.righto moneybagz🤓
I thought it was in the container so it should have been lifted with a fork lift some thing fishy

The simple answer is there’s zero reason to fork the car, they probably just got lszy
Welcome home to the Cresta looking forward to seeing it at DW 2024
Was going to say that compact air powered wrench looked really handy until it couldn't get the bolt off and you had to get the breaker bar out anyway! Cheers Benny. Another enjoyable video.
It’s really good for 95% of things and there are more powerful versions available too but for the amount I use it I couldn’t justify the extra cost
Get Ross Performance to film the tear down and put it on their channel. Sounds like it held up amazing given what it's been through.
It would be interesting to see Benny actually MAD. He is so laid back he’s almost prone.
It’s not a fun time.
Put a joint in the brace. It will give it a way to move as the pipe heats and cools, or the engine moves under load.
Missed you at Sick Week this year!!
I would have loved to be there mate but I’m at home for most of this year
Stoked for you to have the car back in one piece 🤘
New dump pipe... future Benny's problem. ;) Glad to see you have your car back at home where you can work on it and enjoy it more, rather than it sitting in storage in the US.
Glad you got it home.
Hell yeah. Cresta is home
Cresta vids are the best vids!!

What about insurance would that be covered for the damage the shipping company caused
Yes but the excess would be more than the repair
Could you do a shout out prior to hitting WSID, would love to see the Cresta live
For sure
Hey Benny thanks for the video i noticed you have your heat blanket on the turbo is just sitting on there is this common?
I already had it half off but the heat shield pretty much holds it there anyway
Gotta hand it to you for taking the jokes to the limb it on this episode with the c-wrist-a
Worked for Toyota, car going overseas for export Only had 4L of fuel in them and it was for weight reason's and cost.
As one of the engineers that I used to work with used to say: "Gotta bend it straight."
im guessing the fox body mustang is still in the US i think i did spot the rear of in on 1 of Finnigan's videos
It is for now but it’s coming home too. Mike the legend has been storing it for us
I’m surprised the Uhaul cost so much. I had one the same size for a week, drove it across Canada with unlimited mileage one way, and the bill was $300.
$300 x 52 weeks is $15,600.
One way Vegas- San fran was $700 usd
What determines whether you'd wrap the exhaust/downpipe vs. leave it bare?
How itchy I want to be every time I work on it.
@@BennysCustomWorks Well, now I have some more questions.
it may sound funny but i get that you have your area for filming but i like seeing the raw workshop area with the parts in the back ground. it seems a bit of a fake area. I'm not complaining and you do a good job and ill keep watching
That’s actually just my work bay. The rest of the shop is storage mostly. I work in that bay every day, not just for filming
When are we getting the 7 second cresta shirts??????🙏
Glad the Cresta made it back.
Cheers Benny for sharing 👍 🎉🎉🎉
Are you doing Harry Haig's Hard Ass 1000 event in March???
It will be our very first drag and drive event as a competitor 🤞
Hoping too !!
They would drain the fuel to minimise the hazard of fuel leaking, the more fuel board the more is available to leak.

4 digits of torque.
@@7275vrt i know thats the cause. But there are several sworn by ‘remedies’, and this seems to have overcome one of them

9:54 clamp on the rocker and a slide hammer to pull the damage out.
the shipping damage is why i have trust issues haha
its the perceived chance of a fire hazard for running fuel it can spread if there are leaks more than a vapour explosion
That Toyota Camry Good work on the Engine Benny👏👏👏👏
I passed you driving through southern Utah this last fall towing your car. I figured it might be you.

should made a bolt on forklift pickup point so it doesn't happen again an d keep your car mint ^^
There’s actually zero reason for them to fork the car though. Someone probably couldn’t be bothered to jump start it so forked it instead.
@@BennysCustomWorks yep lazy men with a forklift licence... what can go wrong...at least there is no extra square holes in the chassis
Its more of a dangerous goods thing rather than weight thing. Even onroad transport we ask for minimum fuel load in any vehicle being transported
Vacuum pump for better breathing on high boost engines !

Nice one Benny, good to hear the old girl will be lifting her skirts again shortly. Get some.
Who else went 😳when Benny said how much it costs to ship a car to the states? Christ on a bike, I always thought it was around 5k each way.
Is the fuel thing about excise? - If you ship a car full of fuel, you need to declare that and potentially pay the tax on it.
I’d doubt they’d chase 50L of fuel but you may be right
@@BennysCustomWorks You know what they're like at thew airport...
Fuel load .. not the flammability the amount of fuel load to fuel a fire
True
Well that's put me off ever shipping my car overseas
Expansion joints more the merrier on exhaust systems. Stainless looks good but work hardens exhaust stainless is crap 304 if your lucky
Toight!
Why the hell would they need to lift it when it was going into a shipping container? Wouldn’t it be driven/pushed/pulled in? That’s sh*t.

For 2k you could likely have bought a used trailer, or just borrowed one from Cleetus, or Finnegan, or someone...
Yes possibly but we still need a tow vehicle that can fit the crate in. Also we travelled cross country not returning to the same spot
they picked it up on a forklift
Yeah. Crazy that😊
