thank you for the description with the item links! Been wanting to get into diecast customs but was lost and overwhelmed by how I might mess up or even know what to do. You make this seem doable for someone like me. The step by step and in depth explanation with tips really just shows how much tou are going above and beyond for this and really seem to want to help! I know this is long winded, but again. Thank you, this hobby has gotten me through tough times by allowing m to collect my favorite cars, built my childhood with hotwheels of all kinds, and has recently allowed me to find a small group of friends that like diecasts too! I only have one suggestion that my dad taught me as a "family secret to touch ups" (he built things alot); maybe to fix some imperfections or straight up cuts, grooves, or divits, you can use a sort of wax/enamel or soft acrylic (the kind that you can make that molds alot like clay but easier to cut) to make a very fine layer by getting it soft enough to get a flat surface (razor blade at an angle like you are doing a reverse scrape) to allow it to fill the gap. Then, as I've seen people do for other things, spray silver over it as a post-primer coat. (Primer not always needed as for some things like irl aluminium car mirrors on older cars only need a thin clear coat and silver) i hope I don't sound rude trying to teach a pro, but I'm just really exited about the discovery of this channel and want to share some other tricks that might work too! Anyways, bye and thanks! (Again, sorry this is long)
Absolutely no offense taken, I appreciate the additional input and suggestions! Im happy you found this useful and if you ever need help going forward, please don't hesitate to ask! 👊😁👍
Well done brother, if you can get ahold of some flitz Polish give it a try it works awesomely. I have been through quite a few different polishes and compounds and the flitz seems to be the best for me. Very cool and informational video brother.
Save yourself some trouble and ditch the rubbing compoumd..get a bottle of white diamond metal polish..lasts longer ,it has a sealant in it to keep the shine alot longer and it works faster when polishing
Great Video! You think it’d be okay to sand to 2000 grit and then never dull the cars?? I’m assuming the degreaser will take all the left over residue off??
I'm pretty sure the polish would hold up for quite a while if you used a good polishing compound after the 2k grit. If you plan on painting after polish, then a really good clean is a must. I personally drop the car in a jar full of acetone and let it sit for some time. That seems to do the trick. 😁👍
Great video, the stuff I sent you are on pretty bad cards, so hopefully you got plans for them in the detail shop. Not all but some. Castings are fine just some of the cards have seen better day's. See you next time, thanks.
Man... this is the second video of yours to really help me out. I tried this yesterday on a civic EF.... got some metalcast red paint, and I'm very pleased with the results! I hand polished instead of using a dremel just to see how it would look and it looked pretty good. But next time I'll use the dremel for sure! Thanks bro!
That I'm unsure of! Ill use em till they are pitch black then change em out but thats just me! Im sure they could be washed if needed. Theres a link in the description for a kit with a bunch of em for cheap! 😁👊
Do I need a rotary tool to get that mirror like finish? I tried using just my elbow grease and can't seem to get the same effect? I'm wondering if I didn't sand it properly or it's really the rotary tool that would make the difference. Thanks in advance.
This write-up was all done sanding by hand minus the polishing compound (which can also be applied by hand). A dremel with a buffing wheel will certainly help when applying the compound though! 😁👍
@@HonestDiecast Thank you for the advice. Sanded the whole thing again starting with 400 all the way to 2000. Then compound. Got the mirror shine I was hoping for. Next step.... Painting. Are you on instagram? Would love to show you the result.
@@HonestDiecast I have a bench 12vdc power supply, and I get the muriatic acid at Lowes, a gallon jug is pretty cheap and will last for quite a while. I tried using zinc galvanized flashing as the sacrifice, but didn't have enough pure zinc...so I broke down and bought some on Amazon. I also have a copper bath, I made with the same acid and leftover copper wiring from various circuits I've added to the house. Plenty of sacrificial copper for copper plating!
@@HonestDiecast It's pretty fun, too! Just...just don't do like I did, get crunk and forget you have a car body in the acid plating bath....and leave it overnight.
Btw i already try your method about wet sanding and dry sanding, its good but i think i need more sanding to get that finish. I also use the polish to have a chrome finish, but the result is a little bit darker, i already wash it with dish soapy water and still not as mirror look as yours. And the last thing i also try to heat up my spray can using hottest tap water for like 10 minutes, and i love the result although im trying to find the anodized spray can in indonesia which is rare especially uncommon colour. Thank you for your video and comment. ❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Don't know if this video is too old to answer my question, but could I replace the buffer and polish compound with 5000 grit sandpaper? I have the supplies, but like to brag about hand sanding to a mirror finish.😉😁
Not too old at all, Eclectic! You should always finish with polish compound to get the fine imperfections out and to bring out the shine. Buffer wheel works best but you can certainly apply and remove the compound by hand if desired! Hope this helps! 😁👍
Hi I've found two supers and a treasure ever since your video about what they are! Thanks for that. I was going to ask if you could help me build my collection? Like if you would make another video. I've been hunting since 2019 and I've only found three. It is fun getting them so thanks for all the vids I look up to you! Have a great day! Hope you see this.
Hey Isaac! Dude that is friggin' awesome! Congrats on your finds! Which ones did you get? Ill be happy to make any vid your guys request, just lemme know some specifics my friend! 😁👊
Thanks! I found the sesto elemento and the 95 mazda rx7. The treasure hunt is the 2021 custom 77 Dodge van. But about the video, I was wondering if there was an easier way of finding treasure hunts, like a different strategy for looking? Or if they are easy to spot if you look at them a certain way you automatically know that you have found one. Thanks so much for you're help!
Well if Im cracking a case, Ill look down into the case for the designated super car and see if its spectraflame or regular paint. Thats what Ill usually do. Other than that, the spectraflame always catches my eye and I make sure to check every car that is a super in the current or previous case. 😁👊
