As you know from the Discord I'm at the same point & it's been so refreshing to look at my collection in a different way & I'm loving curating my stuff & letting the imagination run wild, leaning into the Newt Scamander vibes, Lots of magical creatures, Plants, Ingredients/potions etc. I'm loving these chatty videos 💛
Yaaaaasss!!! Curated is the word I forgot to mention because it hits on intentionality and care. And like you said, it sparks imagination and a freshness to what maybe hasn’t been done before. Oh that makes me so happy both because I love doing them and they’re a cost saving for the things I want most. Speaking of, that declutter will be next week, and a chatty one indeed … and a bit ruthless. 😄
I don't collect a lot, mainly because of space and finances. I do have a shelf in my secretary of potions I made when going through chemo 7 years ago. I had discovered UA-cam and a Harry Potter creator who did that. That shelf brings me joy every time I look at it! Would love to get the Enchantor magazines, but at 66 am on a fixed income. I'm a reader so I do have the books and other special volumes. That's enough to keep me happy. Especially when I can look at everyone else's stuff via UA-cam. All the best from Missouri.
Oh your shelf sounds delightful! I love a good potions shelf! And I love what you said about how every time you look at it, it brings you joy. That's exactly my hope of this video, that people create spaces that can feel safe, happy, and joyful to them. And much love to you, my friend, for making it through cancer treatment. What strength you must have. Much love from Oregon. 💖🥰
That's a really good distinction; you can like something, but realize it doesn't fit in with your theme or goals. I'm still developing that skill (the ability to edit). It can be hard to walk away from things you like :P Those are some cool earrings!
I quite agree, it can be hard. And it’s why (the poor guy)?I often check in with Matt. But I have ended up (and we’ll get into it in a video next week) with quite a few things I liked but don’t fit in. I also think ‘love’ is more the aim but sometimes that can get muddy on if we like or love something. ❤️ Thank you!! Got them at Spirit Halloween this year. 😃
I am a collector too and embrace the same focus on collecting as you do. I discovered that the term I decorate in as Dark Academia before it was even given that term. When I decided to create a Harry Potter theme in my bedroom (which I don't use as my bedroom), I had seen what everyone else was doing and collecting and I had very little space because I have other things I collect that were also in my bedroom/other room. I am not into Honeydukes, the Dark Arts, Dementors, Weasleys' Joke Shop and other things that people seem to go crazy about. My focus is replicas, Funko Pops of the characters and buildings, some wands, a broom stick, tapestries and collecting what you expect to see at Hogwarts or in the magical world. Every Halloween I look for potion bottles, old books, cauldron and anything that fits either Dark Academia or the Potter World. This year I bought a vintage looking three book book box from Home Goods, the bubbling cauldron drink dispenser from Dollar Tree- the dispenser spout comes off easily and the two sets of vintage book boxes and the ink well with quill from Michael's. I will be moving to a new apartment in 2026 and my intention is to use the bedroom as a Harry Potter/Dark Academia theme room, but really have fun with it by painting the walls and setting it up like you walked into that magical world. The vibe will be dark (hunter green walls), vintage looking and replicas all over the room with a fake stone fireplace and a lot of candles. Basically take what I have and kick it up a few notches. I want to make it an adult version of the magical world. I too have been attacked because I made the mistake of stating that I was only interested in replicas in crate boxes. Why do I have to follow the herd? I have a vision of what I want and I don't want or need what everyone else seems to want. You do you!
Dark Academia is 💯% a vibe we go for too. I like to say Dark Academia merged with Witchy gets you that in-Wizarding World feeling. 😁 I loved hearing all of the things you love to collect, look for, and pick up. I think I know just what book box you're talking about at Homegoods. And it seems we've got a similar approach, as we plan to do things with a fireplace, turning our walls to stone walls, and so much more that I hope will make it feel like you've walked into the Wizarding World. And I'm right there with ya on that hunter green color. I find that color perfect, as it brings in the natural elements, while also giving us some Slytherin vibes. We use it a lot in the greenery we bring in. But a wall color really does change up a space. And don't let 'em get to ya about the crates. They are few and far between, those people. I would absolutely love to see what you end up building, my friend. Keep being you as well! Stay magical! ✨♥️⚡️🥰
Great video as always.I love anything magical and that inspires creativity and happiness. I believe your space should be safe, fun, creative and uniquely you. I love Harry Potter items because although Harry had a challenging beginning in life it did not break his spirit. My collection is my happy space. And your channels has help others feel safe and love what they love without judgement so thank you and your husband.😊
Awww, Traci, you always bring the love! I 💯% agree with you, that your space should be all of those things!!! And you almost made me tear up, sharing why you love Harry Potter. I love that too. Life can be hard but it's up to us to dig deep and not let it break our spirits either. Thank you sooooo much for your love and for always sharing your collection in the Discord group. Sending love & magic right back at ya! 💖🥰✨⚡️
I love collecting! Ive had to slow down my collecting as I got older and now I'm on the other side doing swedish death cleaning but I love watching you world build.
I’m a collector of replicas. I don’t do funkos or Lego as I just don’t have the room. Due to my wedding I’ve done very little collecting this year and I’ve kinda run out of space so I’m being very picky about what I buy from now on. My only downfall is books and I just can’t resist any HP books that are released!!
I totally get not doing funkos or lego. Room and money really play such a role, and I just didn't want anyone to feel fomo or feel like their space isn't enough because they saw someone else's. And I relate to being picky. As Roy said in his comment, 'curated.' Curated is a word I like to use too. I don't think it's 'picky' but with care. Hehe, well it did start with books, so makes total sense to me!
Well said! I would love to see you exploring in search of magical artifacts at muggle thrift stores and antique stores. I have never heard the term world builder before, but ya that's definitely what I am. I don't have licenced stuff. I have mostly thrifted stuff. Darkly witchy romantic and magical is my theme.
Thank you so much!!! 🥰💞 Yaaaay!!! I really want to take you all along with me, and I'm really curious what I'll find. As Portland is known for having a lot of antique/thrifting options. 'World building' is more commonly used in storytelling/writing. It's the act of creating the world. It's more commonly used in fantasy, as fantasy and sci-fi have another level of world building, but is used in any kind of storytelling. I'd loooove to see what kinds of things you have and find! Dark witchy stuff is right up my alley!
I think so too! Or at minimum hope so. And we've been discussing those deets quite a bit in the book club vid, every time we come across things that don't come into the movies and boy are there many. 😃
Thank you so much, Tracey!!! 🥰 I just don't want any other to try and change who they are, what they do, and especially how they create something as sacred as their home for anyone but themselves. You know? I've shared more in the Discord group but I work at a library, and don't at all feel like I can fully express myself. It's not the place it used to be and I'm actively feeling discriminated against (and working with HR about that), but just otherwise keep to myself. I've even been told to mask who I am and be more 'normal' by my boss. That's the short of it. It's been highly stressful. So UA-cam and expressing myself here, with people who get it has been the soul connecting I've needed. ❤️❤️❤️
@@LoveLumos Oh, that's horrible! I'm sorry to hear that. We should all be able to be ourselves. I understand toning things down a little bit sometimes in professional (more corporate really) environments, but we're all individuals and should be allowed at least SOME individual expression! I would have thought libraries would be more understanding of that, considering books are all about CHARACTERS and libraries serve people from all walks of life. I'm glad you can be yourself on UA-cam at least. I've just recently discovered your channel and love the witchy vibes. :)
🥰 Oooo I’d love to know which replicas you’re not down for. There are some for me too, like I don’t see us getting the Goblet of Fire. I want to do a ‘replicas I want to see made’ video. 😃 Definitely can’t wait to start making potions!! Looooove seeing what you’ve been sharing. 😍
