One thing to keep in mind is the opening. The OEM radio is thinner. To install mine I had to saw a 1/2 in on each side of the original opening, and bent the piece up. But in doing so I damage my interior paint job. I could have cut the extra pieces. But I did do it just in case I find a functional OEM radio. If this is something that’s not a concern with you that will make the radio fit.
@@juniorclassicvwbugs924 ok, I'll keep that in mind. I found the original radio on ebay but it's restored $250 plus shipment.. How I wish I bought it..
Yes I know; one of those moments that I was thinking right. But we learned from this mistakes. I am using the foam pad and once it’s installed you can’t see it. But I was entertaining the idea to not use the pad; until I made the mistake... 😂😂😂😂
I have this radio, but I haven't installed it yet. My VW is a mexican 1973.

After I cut mine I was not to concerned, because although I mess the paint in that area, I learned it will be covered by the vinyl dash
Don’t lose hope , oftentimes you can find it cheaper. Keep searching the web. Also check the Samba.com.
Should have cut top and bottom.you are offset and not centered
Yes I know that was one mistake that I heated myself for. 😀
Should just have cut away the metal instead of bending it
