You and a shitload of people around the world, I can tell you. The fact the game is open (and had no reason to be it) made it even more confusing. And after you find out how to kill the witch, the rest of the game is incredibly easy.
You're trying to save your... sister, I believe it was? who is a photographer investigating an old haunted mansion. In addition to saving her, you're also supposed to collect her belongings that were lost within the mansion, which are all the cameras and things. The goal of each stage is to find 5 paper talismans, which become a key once you do so. The key makes the boss of the stage accessible, and defeating the boss (or even just getting to the boss, in some cases) usually involves some sort of puzzle based loosely on Japanese folklore, which the instruction manual for the game gave you hints on. Your health is determined by the battery level of your flashlight, and you also get a longer shot when the battery is full, kind of like in the Legend of Zelda with Link's projectile swords when his health is full. Candles replenish one battery, I believe? And defeating certain chains of enemies, or those bouncing balloon enemies inside the item rooms, will restore your health to full. I forget what the onigiri (rice balls) do -- I think you can offer them at the statues to gain some health back? I know you have to offer one at one particular statue in order to reach the second boss. And that's it for the items and story, I believe. Though it is notable that this game is even less linear than it appears: even from stage 1, you can freely go down certain chimneys to warp to all the other stages, making basically the entire game map accessible to you from the start -- though it's a bit of a beginner's trap, as it'll only make it more complicated for you to complete the game if you start warping all over the place and collecting paper talismans from later stages, since they do NOT respawn. So if you're playing stage 1 and you warp to stage 3 to get one paper talisman, that will count toward your key for the stage 1 boss... but then when you get to stage 3, there will only be four talismans to find, and you'll have to warp back to stage 1 to collect the one you passed over before in order to get the next key. It's a very obtuse game, but there's something oddly appealing about it nonetheless. And it definitely feels very MSX!
@@Wyrdwad yeah, I can agree that it feels and looks about as MSX as a game possibly could! A while after posting this comment, I did find out more about this game... as well as the Famicom Disk port. Which is... not super enjoyable, honestly. Not sure if it's the maps that are too big (they're shaped after kanjis), or if it's worse to control... I think someone said it was the latter, but I haven't played the MSX version yet, so I have no basis for comparison.
@@Mike14264 The MSX version isn't exactly GREAT to control, on account of the fact that you lose all control of your character as soon as you jump, so you have to wait until he lands before you can move again, meaning your jump trajectory had better be PERFECT when you leave the ground or you're kind of screwed! But you do get used to it pretty quickly, and the game isn't exactly demanding of you in the challenge department, so it doesn't really become much of a problem. In the end, I couldn't see anyone ranking this game as one of the best on MSX, but nor could I see anyone ranking it as one of the worst. It's good! But not great. ;)
Your sister is a paranormal investigator who went to investigate a renowned ghost house but got captured, and you have to go in and save her... and also get back her stuff. Because if you save her without first finding her shoes, her flashlight, and her two cameras, GOD HELP US ALL. ;) ...But no, seriously, that's the story. You're trying to rescue your sister and find all her "ghost-hunting equipment" along the way. It's pretty basic, and the ending text is basically just "Hooray! Hooray!" Story is not this game's strong suit. Heheh.
何気にBGMが良い
MSXにしてはテンポいいし、入力に対する反応もよさげ、BGMも秀逸
当時一切興味なかったけど、これ実は名作だったってやつですかね・・・
how I miss these days !!
thanks a lot for sharing ...
My god, I've tried to figure out how to do away with the witch boss 25 years ago, now I know it! Great walkthrough!!!

Love the music. The game itself looks a lot like the goonies by konami.
It also reminds me a bit of Maze of Galious.
true...
이런 엔딩이 있었을줄 몰랐어.. 그냥 마지막 boss 깨고 나면 거기서 그냥
더 할것이 없구나 했었는데.. haha

ラスボスが一番簡単だったような
ファミコン版より面白そう

What is this game about? What's going on, what's the goal, what are the items you get?
