    Just did it. Thank you for advice, Sir. Now I don't have to asking dealer to check level. Last time they asked 75 dollars for half and hour for this simple job. I'm chocked, how they want rip me off.

    Just went out and found the trans tube. It's easier to see with a flashlight looking in from in front of the battery at 45 degrees toward the engine. It's under that fat wiring harness that's below the radiator hose. Measured and made scribe marks on the back of my dipstick for the future. Cold is about 1/2 inch and hot about 2 inches. (+/-) Most people in the USA have no clue when it comes to metric.

    I will definitely pass this along to my friend who also has a grand caravan as we were just discussing this the other day. I will be painting the top of my plug yellow to make it more obvious. Makes me wonder if you couldn’t get a junkyard oil dipstick, and just make one to leave in.

      There's a long skinny black filler tube under the cluster. Has a cap with usual "transmission fluid" logo on it
      No larger in diameter than a quarter

    Perfect ! Mine trans pan is all wet, it was leaking when I bought it. I want to check before going on a 10 hour trip, just did an all day last week... New brakes yesterday, oil change today, and check trans now...-anything special for ATF ? . As for oil 5-30 ? my 2013 oil cap says 5-20W....

    Why when i check it when its cold. The level is really high. When warm its in the 40 & 55 range????

    • @human1513
      @human1513 2 місяці тому

      Automatic transmission fluid expands as it gets hotter. This is why the level should read higher when the oil is hotter. Same for my Toyota.

    When you check transmission do you stop when you hit the bottom or do you stip after twisting it and it going down lower.

    Does engine oil splash out of your oil tube with the dipstick in the other hole? That would be my only concern.

    • @boogeyman1967
      @boogeyman1967 3 місяці тому

      I believe it's measuring the amount in the pan which is not under pressure. It wouldn't be able to splash up and out of the dipstick hole.

    Unfortunately 0n some of the newer models have a sealed transmission so it can't be checked stupid engineers

    • @human1513
      @human1513 2 місяці тому

      I have a Toyota and yes the fluid level of the "sealed " transmission can still be checked as is so more most sealed automatic transmissions. As it is with all makes & models that I know of.
      In my 2017 Toyota RAV4 as in other Toyotas, some Mercedes,... it is checked via removing the oil pan drain plug.
      Up inside is a plastic straw kind of thing and it is hand tight threaded in there.
      When the temperature of the oil via an OBD2 reader (I use a cheap small one that plugs in to the OBD2 socket under the dash and an app on my phone).
      I take the phone under the vehicle with me.
      For my Toyota with the engine running when the trans oil temp reads the specified temperature range of between 35 & 43 degrees celsius (95 - 110 degrees Fahrenheit) the fluid should be just trickling up, over the top of the straw and running down and out. If it does then the level is 100% correct.
      If it does not then it is low on fluid so add some.
      If it keep running out full blast let it drain some SHut it off and let it continue draining and let it cool down which can take an hour or more depending on the atmospheric temperature outside.
      Then repeat until the oil just slowly runs out. Then re-install the drainplug bolt with a gasket.
