Great video Ed. Buying the EVO 16 was one of the best decisions I made with an Audio Interface. It is a great piece of kit and the preamps are up there with the most expensive ones out there. It is nice to see the SP8 being released and I'll be adding that to the collection soon
Thanks, Emmanuel. Yeh, I’m probably ditching my complicated and expensive drum recording set up for these because Smart gain is so useful when recording on my own. 🔥
Works absolutely perfect with my RME babyface too, the sp8. Conversion is great too. In a blind test I can't pick them out vs the rme in a loopback test.
Oh, that’s interesting. RME have very loyal fans who usually smash everything else. Interesting to hear the SP8 competes from an RME user. Thanks for commenting 🙂🤘
Yeah, audient is great. Technically the rme nulls better (quieter) in rellation to the source than this audient when testing, but listening blind I cant pick one out.
@@caspermaster-com Also, the preamps on the SP8 can be bypassed, so it's a great companion to the BabyFace for connecting outboard gear via ADAT. I also have the BabyFace and plan on getting the SP8 if Perfect Circuit has a Memorial Day coupon and has it in stock.
I had the same question, but bought one anyway and the preamp quality and converters sounded a lot like my Focusrite Scarlett that I use on tour. I thought it was going to be a cool I/0 expander, but it definitely didn’t match my Apollo converter quality and the difference was very obvious. If I was looking for an expanded live setup, or already had an audient interface, this would be perfect!
Hi Ed. I’m currently running the sp8 through the adat out of my apollo x8p and i’m getting -8db difference in volume between the two when using my analog summing mixer and some hardware inserts. Is it possible to level match the two output without adding gain from the preamp of the audient sp8? Cheers!
There is no software with the SP8. The software I demod in this video was the Evo Mixer App. The SP8 would be recognised by your Apollo and the 8 ADAT inputs will show up for mixing/processing in Console. The 8 outputs would be assignable in the Console I/O Matrix but the Twin doesn’t have ADAT out so these aren’t available to you.
Hi there, could you re-amp (or route to analog gear) from DAW out through adat outputs through SP8 analog outputs? Much appreciated and great informative videos. Cheers!
The SP8 can be used as an ADAT output unit, yes, but you'd need another unit to take the returns. You can go directly out from the pres, but again, would need to be back into another interface.
@@EdThorne So that would be my motu 828 analog line inputs back into the daw to record the new re-amped or outboard signal. Will be updating to Evo 16 but the current budget says buy the sp8 first it works with any interface
Hey Ed, thank you For the Great Video. I ordered the SP 8. I want to expand my Apollo x8P to include the eight inputs of the Evo. If I connect the Evo to the Apollo via adat, should I still use the word clock connection? Sorry, I don't really understand it yet. Thank you
Hi. Quick question? I have apollo twin usb. I ordered evo sp8. I will get it soon. How can i connect to sp8 from my audio interface. What cables do i need? Trs to trs or Xlr to Trs? Which input, output to connect? Where can i connect my microphone on audio interface mic input or on sp8 mic input. Thanks.

Thanks Ed. I've pre-ordered the SP8 to go along with my EVO 16
Excellent! That’s a killer studio set up.

@@SeanHyland To bypass them, is it to put them at 0 gain or something else? ☺️
Been waiting for this! I was considering getting the evo 16, but at NAMM they told me this would come out soon
Well, someone broke their NDA there 🤣
@@EdThorne right! I got lucky haha
Great Video - thanks. I am using the Audient SP8 with a RME UCX II and it works great. I could not hear any difference in the preamp quality.
Nice video Ed!
Thanks, Mike!🙏😊
Great job once again mate.
Thanks, Sam!
Nice video, but would really love to hear more about the quality of the pres and comparisons.
Check the links in the description.

Makes me wish the EVO 8 had an optical in. Very cool none the less.
Maybe they’ll do a Mark II version at some point.
It does
The Evo 8 doesn’t. The 16 and SP8 do.
Excellent knowledgeable video.
Thank you! 🙏

Just wondering if using with an Apollo Twin, would everything be controlled via UAD console or would I use the Audient software?

Will this work with Universal Audio Apollos?
Yes!
Have one question about ADAT connection, do one need to instal software of both interfaces on PC or just software of master interface, not the slave?

For best results, I suggest doing that, yes.

Why did you buy it if you have no idea how to use it with your existing equipment?
I have a RME UCX FireFace 2. ( new ) is the SP8 compatible....??
The SP8 is compatible with any ADAT connected device.
Should have supplied a c to usb type cable...
500$ lol.
