      @@UltimateGamerCC it was mostly how they wasted an amazing chance of development with the Amathet. I was invested in that "titanic creatures uprising to return order to the world" concept. It felt like they could have been so much more, instead of a bunch of half baked quest chains and an event. Hell, the king of the Amathet was a fucking rare mob, and even in their own quests they get played by the Old Gods, to the point some random mob in Ny'alotha is called Amathet too.
      Sich a cool concept (much like the mantids) ruined by not wanting to nurture new potential threats instead of just forcing them into cannon fodder material.

    In the Paragon of the Klaxxi fight, Kil'ruk, the first mantid paragon you awaken, is the only one who doesn't threaten you. Before the fight, he gives you a warning(the other paragons mention this before the fight). He is also the LAST paragon that engages you, almost as if he is hesitant.
    As if he actually likes the player character and doesn't want to kill us because he's been with us the longest.
    My headcanon is that Kil'ruk only takes up his blades against us because we already killed several of his brothers and realizes he has a choice, let his brothers all die, or kill the player character.

      Its because Mantid value strengh above all, if they fight a Pandaren that slays a lot of them, they won't kill him so that they can train against him in the next swarm (or his progeniture). They're respectful and ask the same treatment in return, they want people to respect their cycle and lifestyle because its their only goal in life. Kil'ruk has a deep appreciation for the main character and praises its strenght, he doesn't want to kill you because it would be such a waste !

      Yes, correct. It made me sad to kill them, because they were respectful and understood what "honor" is. But we ended up on opposite sides. He himself says in one of the quests that he is "proud" to fight alongside you. And before he dies he says "Well fought, Wakener. We will meet again..." SoO was wonderfully designed, but also a very sad raid, because we had to kill characters which were a part of our journey - The Fallen Protectors, Nazgrim, Paragons, even Garrosh himself.

    I think a major point of annoyance for me with the way Blizzard writes expansions, is the throwaway races they add every expansion and then NEVER revisit in future works.

Overall the expansion was actually pretty good. Same with WoD, Warlords is imo a great expansion just let down by its unfulfilled promises and cut content. They were one of the few examples I enjoyed them both as enemies to slaughter or allies to help. And thus, I was so upset when the Paragons became raid bosses; yes, they were psychotic, but they were my friends too! In my head canon I saw the bow that drops from them as a parting gift to my hunter who quested with them, and to this day she still proudly wears the title Wakener. It's really funny since they even fully admit that they are NOT your friends - come the return of the Old God's they're happy to return to their old worship, that being said they hope you heed their warning and join them, as helpful as you've been for sustaining their race.
      So when they see you in that raid it's a mix of disappointment and understanding - you were given that choice and you've made that choice, so it's the Wakener versus the very Paragons he rescued - insects you got to know but alas know they knew fully well it would come to blows eventually.
      And that's what I love about the Mantid. They're unapologetic about their origins but pragmatic in the current age. If only BFA capitalized on potential schism and concerns after the tragedy of their empire during MoP...

    The Mantid stand out to me as as Warcraft villains in that they truly feel like a noble adversary.
    They honor your help to them but make it clear where their allegiances lie and warn you that they WILL stand against you when the time comes.
    And when that time came and were defeated, they praise your valor for being willing to fighr the battle they warned you against.

    So, we have:
    - Nerubian 2.0: more civilized, but still evil.
    - Related to an evil entity related to Old God: Number #364
    - They try to save their race, but at the same time they want us dead (even though we help them)
    - They are ungrateful: joining the Horde of a tyrannical warlord even though we are "allies" (rare Mantid moment in the Horde)
    - They wonder why we kill them when they are the ones who can't seem to stop worshiping the evil entity related to Old God: Number #364 (makes the Nerubian look like true heroes among all the insect tribes since they were not influenced by dark whispers)
    - They proceed to be evil again as if they didn't learn their lesson.

    Man I love MoP lore, it was so cool to bring back Y'shaarj in form of 7 different beings and actually kill them one after another throughout the expansion. It gave lot of the content a nice continuation and more investment than say the current last boss of Abberus raid who's name i can't even remember, and he's seemingly communicating/drawing power from some old gods which should be pretty damn exciting, yet i'd rather fight another Sha or Sha-controlled mantid.

    Unpopular opinion but these guys' potential was wasted by Siege of Orgrimmar and even more by BFA, it was so much more interesting having a bug race as (reluctant) allies instead of enemies for once and learning more about their alien society and history while slowly befriending them. The fact that they worshipped an old god was by far the least interesting thing about them, you can only hear "mwuahaha the Old One will devour you" so many times before it gets boring.

    • @UltimateGamerCC
      @UltimateGamerCC Рік тому

      you may not have liked where the story with them went, but it made sense, unlike some turns (Sylvanas) it was lore based, all bugs had heard the Old Gods whispers, even the Mantid as they slept. we cannot help that they had sworn loyalty to the void at least 10,000 years ago and even when we fight them, The Klaxxi never lower their friendship status with us, they understand that we are on different sides and they respect that.

    • @Guy_GuyGuy
      @Guy_GuyGuy Рік тому +3

      @@UltimateGamerCC I would disagree that it made sense by the time of BFA. They had no business pledging loyalty to another old god (we know the various old gods hate each other) and launching another invasion of Pandaria after losing their old Empress, much of their population, most of their kypari trees, most of the Klaxxi council, and ALL of the Paragons during the events of MoP. The Empire was in a miserable state and would have been ripe for reform. We know it's possible for the insectoid races to abandon the old gods, the nerubians did it.
      I would have at least liked to see some mantids fight demons alongside us during Legion. Old gods and the Legion hate each other and it was literally foreshadowed in the Fear bit of the Burdens of Shaohao that the mantid would be needed to help fight the Legion.

    • @sylphephilippe449
      @sylphephilippe449 Рік тому

      @@Guy_GuyGuy Its because of the new queen which we kill in the events, Mantid had nothing to do with N'Zoth, their new Queen was controlled by him and made a pact for strengh with its army (she was also corrupted). The empire lost 80% of its strengh by loosing their Parangons, 2 empresses in a raw and half their country + "citizens". N'Zoth just didn't care and took over their army to solidify his.

      as for fighting the Demons, they kept to their empire after MoP, as they did for thousands of years, they didnt even fight during the time of the Sundering. so again it makes sense upon their built in lore.

    I love how no one talks about how in MoP they literally just put East Asia in the game. The Pandaren are meant to be modern day China, The Mogu were old Imperial China, The Yaungol are the Mongols, and the Mantid are the Imperial Japanese. Seriously take a look at how their cultures are portrayed in the game. Pandaren are more communal and care more about what they perceive as the "greater good" even if that means doing something objectively wrong, aka Communist China. Mogu are slavers with constant in fighting that results in countless Emperors each seemingly worse than the last, who eventually united and created an extremely powerful empire (Qing China) but then crumbled once again to infighting (Warlord 1920ish-1949) and are now just a small remnant holding onto what little territory they have left (Taiwan). Yaungol are nomadic tribes, that once united and conquered great swathes of territory but are now just a tiny spec in the grand scheme of things. The Mantid have blind, almost hivemind like loyalty to their Empress thinking she's a divine being, exactly how the Imperial Japanese viewed the Emperor. They conquer, are seemingly unstoppable but eventually fall when they make too many enemies.
    IT IS LITERALLY JUST IRL LORE
