    Proudly Presenting: "Corporate Ping Pong"
    This engineered mechanical sculpture is a representation of the hum and haw and constant, slow churn of the big corporate machine. Jumping through hoops, creating flair, but not very much actually getting accomplished.
    It is a kinetic sculpture made up of many moving parts. The pingpong balls are lifted with a 12 way geneva mechanism, which is timed to drop a ball into the launcher scoop every 10 seconds. This is coupled to the archimedes spiral cam via a chain and sprocket, which charges the plunger mechanism with elastic potential energy. At the end of the cam, the plunger is released, popping the ball into the air for a brief moment of excellence, before making its way back into the queue, only to do it again.

    I wonder how small you could make the funnel, a swish straight into the track would be so satisfying 😍

      probably not too difficult unless the room has opening doors, windows, or vents.

      @@elitelavamage yes, it's much better to leave that style to marble or ball bearing runs.

      The problem is that ping pong balls are not uniform. The equatorial seam can change how the ball bounces.

    I think an awesome version of this would be if you used a clock mechanism to move everything utilising the minute hand and having 12 balls so every hour the ball will shoot into the hoop and a ball representing the current hour drops into the ball launcher. I think it'd be the coolest clock ever and the way you have designed it would be perfect just change the motor with a clock mech and design something that slipped into the minute hand part of the mech and connected to the rotating assembly or a stepper motor and arduino board if a clock mech hasn't got enough torque to turn the rotating assembly

  • @dhruel

    Beautifully executed. All that planning and testing worked out wonderfully.
    BTW: Taking breaks when the mind tires of a focused subject is quite normal. I was taught in design school that if you ever find yourself stuck, then just do something, anything, even looking around or reading helps to get the mind flowing again. Forcing it to continue focus upon a stressed-out subject is not usually productive. Plus, as you said, your 'toying around' was useful for the main project, as well as likely helped your mind to relax.

    • @Engineezy
      @Engineezy  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Aaron, definitely agree with the importance of breaks!

    At least you managed to come back to the main quest. My main hobby quest is over a year old now, and my side quests also get side quests of their own. Somehow what started as a 3D printing project with some electronics, became chemistry which has neither plastic or electronics. And dangerously close to becoming metallurgy.

    Smooth design! Solid works for the win. I’m curious if there would be a way to refine the slope angles in the funnel to try and get the ball to cleanly and almost silently fall straight into the tube like a 3 point swoosh. Then you don’t have much of the bouncing around noise. That would step it up to almost a zen kind of machine.
