    Switzerland is by far one of the best places in the world to hike. The hiking culture, hiking infrastructure, and views make it phenomenal

    What a fantastic video you made. Could you share your view on safety/ mobile signal? I saw a few points near the passes that looked pretty tough and if you have an accident (even breaking a leg) what happens next? It did not seem like a crowded route.

      It was some time ago, so I do not recall phone signal. I generally suggest taking something like a Garmin in-reach, or even the newest version of the iPhone which allows you to send satellite SOS messages. Overall, whilst the mountains are big, the infrastructure is significant, and during summer you will see plenty of people around.

    Hi James! Appreciate this video as my husband and I are looking to do a similar route this fall (late sept/early oct) in Switzerland (hoping for no extreme snow...). I see you're in New Zealand now, or more recently. We've hiked all over New Zealand (Milford track, Avalanche peak, Routebourn, Kepler, Abel Tasman) I'm wondering how this section of the Via Alpina compares in beauty and also in difficulty (similar, more difficult, less difficult?) Thank you for any insight, really enjoyed checking out this video.

    • @JamesHustler
      @JamesHustler  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Jen. You'll be sweet. Good well marked trails, nothing technical - just like great walks. The key difference (dependant on if you chilled on the nz great walks and did short days) are the potentially long days from valley to Valley. One day particularly from lauterbrunnen over to griesalp was a pretty big day as I remember. We did probably 10/12 hrs and we are fairly fit. The pass on that one was steep, in bad weather you'd be slow. but well marked and roped to help. You could make days shorter though by staying in huts or other accomodation.

    • @JamesHustler

      Ps - in beauty it's unreal. we did a lot of research and are confident we did one of the most picturesque sections of it.

    Hi James,
    I'm planning to do this hike in early July with my fiancé . I'm thinking of doing the route in reverse, Adelboden to Grindelwald. Few questions:
    1. Did you see hikers doing this route(reverse of the way you went)?
    2. What resources online did you use to plan the hike? I'm currently using the via-alpina.org website and doing google searches for additional information.
    3. Do you have any tips or additional information to share? We're planning on packing light and staying in hotels or hostels in the villages after each stage of the hike.
    Thanks for making this video. I had planned the trip to the junfrau region and was just going to stay in Wengen/Murren/Gridelwald and do day hikes, but your video has inspired me to plan a through hike.

    • @JamesHustler
      @JamesHustler  4 роки тому

      You will love it! It was beautiful. Definitely people in both directions. Particularly Adelboden to Grindelwald - it's quite busy.
      GPX download from that website to our watches. We googled local campsites. Note, some only spoke local language / German/French. no English.
      - we camped and had no problem. If you stay at accomodation it will be a breeze. We envied hikers with these small packs on some days :)
      Have fun and enjoy it, beautiful place.

      Hi,
      every information you need you will find on: www.schweizmobil.ch/en/hiking-in-switzerland/routes/route-01.html. The part between Adelboden and Grindelwald is amazing and of course very touristic. So there are many options for restaurants, supermarkets and accomodation. I doesn`t matter in which direction you walk the trail. I live in switzerland and i walk the trail from Vaduz to Adelboden (and some of the stages also two or three times) and plan to finish the trail this year from Adelboden to Montreux. Here some impressions: www.flickr.com/photos/westbild/albums/72157710128006786
