220 tons! At this rate, they'll be able to build future space stations out of rebar concrete!
Gotta make a rocket that doesn't explode first, dingbat
@@garyc1384 Don't be impatient. Or rude.
@@garyc1384you realise falcon exploded a lot? Right? That this is part of SpaceX iterative design process? Right? That Falcon is now the most reliable and reusable rocket currently in production, right? Don't be a dingbat.
@@garyc1384Dude why tf u gotta be so rude?
Forget concrete space station what we need is a one launch ISS
I feel like it's highly speculative to suggest SpaceX is going to move away from their current steel production for Starship Superheavy, to something less proven, that might require entirely new tooling. Remember, they chose this steel because it's stronger per mass than the alternative materials in the various temperature regimes that the ship has to endure. More likely they've found places where the ship currently is overly built, where they can shave off excess metal.
Tank is not the only part made of metal. We'll see.
It's more likely they've just shaved a fraction of a millimeter off of the thickness of steel they're already using. They might (and this is pure speculation from me) have also found a way to reduce the mass of the heatshield tiles, since we still saw some falling off on IFT2, it's likely they're still iterating on the design of those quite a lot
I can't wait for the next launch, let alone a V2 launch!
Wait haven't we already had a v2 launch before? I seem to remember it landing somewhere around London.
@@LisaAnn777😂😂 ffs
@@LisaAnn777OH WAIT I JUST GOT THAT
With a fair knowledge of WWII, I don't think I'd label my new rocket a "V2".
As long as it never crashes on to London it will be OK
He's already got the anti-semite part going.
It's a legendary rocket tho.
Why? Apart from the London part ,v2 was the first man made object to ever go to space, that earns my respect, hate the ideology not the machine
10:10 As they are only allowed to do so many launches a year. Getting the next launch off before Jan. 1 would be beneficial.
Yay! Maybe this one won't lose its tiles and blow up!
V1 and V2. Interesting choice of name for rockets.👀
Then Polaris and Trident
BO is Vaporware. I really question 2024 and 2025 at this point.
6:08 Why are there tampons?
don't think someone noticed when looking for stock footage of a calander. 🤣
I assume the dry mass reduction is going to be achieved mainly by switching to Raptor V3 engines. As Elon stated, those are allegedly so reliable that they do not need any shielding. Additionally i suppose this version is going to be an ever more simplified design then V2.
Dry mass reduction has to be carried out on the body not the engines
@@bidav2114 Why would that be? Unlike fuel, engines do not lose mass while going to orbit. Engine mass is dry mass.
@@EaglePicking you'll have to reduce overall weight because the dry mass of any vehicle is it weight without fuel, oils and payload. So the engines are part of the dry mass but light engines might cause out problems it it can handle the heat, pressure and stress. That means let the engines be but find a way to reduce weight in other part of the space vehicle(starship)
Nope. They will start using 3.6mm skin instead of 4 mm skin
I would not put any money on BO for the Mars mission. They have yet to show they can get to orbit with anything. If they miss the 2024 window, the mission will have to wait two years for another window to open up.
Just saying, you got both of the FTS statements wrong.
The booster FTS was not triggered AT ALL, according to SpaceX, and the ship FTS was triggered AUTOMATICALLY, again according to SpaceX.
I think WAI said that the dry mass will be reduced by using thinner rings of stanless steel. That could save a lot of weight, even with a higher ship
@2:30 propellant is NOT part of the Dry-Mass equation..
I would like to know if having SRBs for just Earth launches - even having a disposable SS, would make any sense (in context of fueling to LEO).
If Spacex has a convincing reason for the ship oxygen leak, I think there is a chance for IFT3 quite soon.
You said "McGregor" facility when I think you meant "Massey." A minor quibble, but I thought it should be pointed out.
I'm really exited to see how V2 will look!
Same, however i don't think there will be any major difference as seen from outside. Seen from underneath howerver, with 3 more engines it should be insanely cool!
@@zamma963 Elon said on more than one occasion that the forward front flaps are not a good design and the will move further leeward and have more like a 120° angle to each other compared to 180° it is now. I thinks its likely these changes come with the V2 version and in that case it will look different.
Oh we already saw V2s 💀💀
Hey, I just parked my fully automatic self driving Tesla after driving almost 1,000 miles on one charge and am now going to send a message to my friends who are already on Mars.
I was going to join the 2024 Mars cycle but decided to stay behind so that I can drive my brand new cyber truck which is absolutely perfect in every way possible and has absolutely no flaws whatsoever.
I'm also ready to put the rest of my small fortune in to more Tesla stock which cannot fail ever.
Interesting video. It’s a shame we don’t know why the booster tumbled after separation and why they lost Starship telemetry. That said, the booster is probably the easiest part and as long as it lofts Starship, fixing the booster return is not urgent. That all engines fired perfectly up to separation is incredible.
The booster matters inasmuch as not salvaging it means Elon loses money.
If Elon loses money then he passes that loss to his customers and THEY lose money.
If his customer is the Pentagon then that's money YOU lose, as a taxpayer.
So... we want the booster to be returned.
Didn’t starship lose telemetry because it had a path with very little ground stations and their starlink connection didn’t quite work?
@@zimriel I said it’s not urgent, as they can proceed with Starship tests even if the booster fails to land. I didn’t say it doesn’t matter.
I liked Opera, however when I turned on the VPN it screeched to a halt. I'll say it stopped opening web pages, it was just so slow I walked away first. I even tried it during the night. No dice. However without the VPN working, it was slick, seamless and I liked it.
What needs to happen for a manned lunar landing with a modified Spaceship: At least one, probably multiple Starships shuttling to orbit and back and refueling. Then they have to make sort of a dress rehearsal by landing an unmanned prototype on the moon. Maybe do that several times, because the first may fail. Yeah, 2025 isn't going to happen.
2028 or 2029
I always like the look of the space shuttles. I would like to see them make one like them. That's just me thou
Are you a child, or just immature?
@@garyc1384how rude 😮
@garyc1384 Just a child at heart but I grew up with the first space shuttles. We wouldn't have the space station now without them and it's was just my thoughts, no use in the harsh words bud. May God keep you and your family blessed on the holidays and in the New Year.

6:45 Massey, not MacGregor.
Why does anyone even take Starship seriously. No one should be talking about “cheaper” or “rapidly reusable” or claims of “capacity increases” if they can’t even get a functional product working. They haven’t even designed the interior for any of that stuff.
Why is everybody calling the Opera browser new? I was using the Opera browser 15 years ago on my blackberry. It's not new

Note that FAA does not do the mishap investigation, it's done by SpaceX itself with supervision of FAA.
Also we can have space stations all the way to Mars. Use many many space stations.
B11 was at Masset's Outpost not McGregorr
6:41 tipo - McGregor instead of Massey ;)
You're wrong. Elon tweeted just the day after launch that they had gotten the next license already. You should really do your homework.
Maybe don't call it the "V2"?
How about A4?
i do enjoy your content, but might one suggest a little closer vetting of your stock footage, 3 sanitary products next to that calendar during your bit about Elon time sent a rather unsanitary message haha !
Opera one looks crazy
“It would almost be disappointing if they didn't make a better starship”
Seriously? Excluding falcon heavy the next closest rocket can put up 28T to LEO (Delta IV, fully expandable). Not increasing starship payload capacity from 150T would be disappointing?
If we wanna talk about being disappointed, let’s look at literally every legacy space company
more and more it feels like space x has no real competition as all there competitors are constantly floundering
...and Starship is such a great success? 2 for 2 blow ups in a row.

Why all the hate? Shits exciting no matter the results. Obviously we would like to stop seeing it blow up before putting people on. Test test and test again till it's as reliable as falcon 9
can't wait for the SS V2
I would have loved seeing booster 11 traveling from McGregor. lol

Great video...👍
Can we put the ship up in the atmosphere and then use more compulsion on up into the great outerspace
Are magnetic forces unable in outer space.or is it usable
You forgot to mention the entire rocket blew up
I heard that Pirate reference xD
V2 does not sound good from the historical point of view. However wasn't that the first suborbital rocket? --- with alcohol as fuel
You are correct, the V2 rocket built by Germany in the 40s was one of the most influential in history. Much of its designs were incorporated in the Saturn 5.
Because of this, the original V2 rocket represents the third major milestone in human spaceflight after the invention of the first solid-fuel rockets (developed by China in the 13th century) and the first liquid-fueled rocket by Robert H. Goddard.
thanks, love your content🔥
Seems the easiest way to gain fuel capacity is increase the diameter proportionately for all parts of the system. Still have to figure out how to make a crew space when you have fuel tanks in the nose and a downcomer in the middle of the ship. I guess we'll see in V2.
Maybe, but I remember hearing in the past the plan was to increase the height of the Starship to the size of the booster. This sounds more likely because increasing the diameter would make ALL of the infrastructure (high bays, test stands, launch rings, etc) obsolete.
@@helifanodobezanozi7689Exactly.
They will make it taller. About 10 meters taller. And reduce about 7mm of steel from the ship's walls. That will reduce the weight drastically.
For lunar lander variant they may not need the header tanks at all. That is in the design to balance weight and such for the flip maneuver and reentry in atmosphere. None of that is likely needed on landing on the moon. Wouldn't be surprised if that whole part of the system is stripped out and replaced with a docking port or something.
Now, that being said, there is a bit of light atmosphere on mars, so that's a future problem. Also when they try to make a crewed version that WILL land again on earth, they will once again need to address the safety issues with it potentially, as they would need a header tank possibly for that. Could you imagine being on board a starship while it does the flip maneuver...
@@cheostian4847 I wonder what the deceleration will be during the flip manoeuvre?
Yes, but do we have to call it V2? It's kinda scary given its historical context lol
Like atmospheric flight, as there are accidents there will be new rules and reglations to abide by.
How much space is left in the bay's ? How much higher can the ship go and fit inside?
But there are volatile fuel containers in the nosecone.
So when did he made V1 :D? Or did I oversleep something:P???
McGregor test sight? Massey I would bet.
"shepherded...on New Glenn." lol.
3:40 OPERAGXXXXXXX 💀💀💀
Why can't we have a space ship like a disk shape. Also in using magnetic purpalaltion.
Does anyone know if Starship overflew populated areas?
the starship 2 does not go lighter . but gets more power .
How about adding a NERVA type egine to the second stage, I know NASA is working on it again. We need this tech. to make it to MARS anyway.
That is a good idea but it likely wouldn’t work as well as you would hope.
The Nerva engines run on liquid hydrogen, so you would need to add another tank and propellant which is a lot of mass.
Also, the Nerva’s do not produce enough thrust to make orbit. They are an on-orbit engine, so they would still need Methalox and raptors for orbit. I haven’t done the exact calculations, but I would imagine that it is similar dV if not way less than the regular starship. But the Nerva will be revolutionary for payloads if they can get some operational!
jan launch as new tanks get installed, tested .
3D printed tanks suffer from poor material properties because printable alloys are pretty much casting alloys like A256, and it's ONE GIANT WELD. The metal grains are horrible, there are voids and poor dimensional control, the finished part is too damn big to Hot Isostatic Press (HIP) to crush the voids, and the minimum thickness that can be printed is far greater than the tank walls need to be to sustain the ullage pressure. If you get ONE power glitch during printing of a part, the whole thing may need to be scrapped. Oops.
On the other hand, the skin-and-stringer construction used on Starship is a mostly additive process using high-strength material with excellent microstructure, with the knowledge gathered from more than a century of industrial experience of forming and welding similar structures (but it isn't flashy and the buzzwords are old-fashioned). Parallel workstations allow large modules (i.e. the rings) to be built quickly and inspected before assembly of the modules; if one is damaged it can be scrapped and replaced.
Isn't Opera owned by the Chinese now ?
I have to question the lack of onboard cameras on starship. They put them all over the Falcon rockets. I think the was a mistake
It may be that the starlink comms didn’t work for the transmission
Sure it is Elon. Sure it is.
Please pronounce metallurgy correctly: met - al - err - gee. Your editor and producer should have caught this prior to upload; I know I would have.
Snap kinda broke Firefox (and chromium) on Ubuntu server minimal with i3wm and opera just worked. I’m not sure about features, but it seems to work fine so far (it’s better than konqueror or links anyway). There’s your headline review :)
9:17 The footage of the debris falling is definitely not from starship 🤦 If you watch it slowly You see the image of a smaller gridfin which is from a booster of a falcon 9
Ok so while you are correct I have 2 things to say. 1They did show footage of the starship debris later 2 that was the landing test article f9 that never was orbital
V2 is probably not the best designator. And why use sea level engines on a second stage vehicle?
So in other words you going to have new spaceships for next year so that you can start launching spaceships next year or every month?????🚀🚀🚀
After enough experience has been gained and enough thought has been given to the issue of humanity in space, we’ll probably abandon the idea of long term living on the surface of hostile planets and moons. Optimal living conditions for humans will likely unfold in a highly engineered self-sustaining mini-planets of our own making in orbit around all kinds of celestial objects. Super large cylindrical capsules of steel and titanium. Something like 30 miles in diameter, 300 miles in length, and 200 feet shell thickness rotating around an axis to generate gravity like force on its walls where human habitat will take place. Houses, farms, parks, nuclear power stations, propulsion systems and other amenities will be all contained in these capsules. Of course, such capsules will probably take thousands of years to build. We’ve got time. Life on earth will probably be possible for another billion years. Humanity will move in all directions utilizing the resources of dead planets. Of course, if and when a super suitable planet for human habitation was found, it will be colonized. Earth’s moon and Mars? I don’t think so.
Why are there tampons at 6:06 ? What did you mean by that ?????
Elon Musk for King 👑✨🪐🎟️🚕👑 King of the World
I hope one of those never blows up on the launch pad - a disaster waiting to happen 😬
More propellant, more vac engines. Sounds a Whole Lot likw making Starship an SSTO spacecraft. Starship is only a small delta away from being able to make orbit with exactly zero cargo, Add 10-20- tons of capacity, and you could fly (say) a crew to orbit. Or back.
If the Raptor's engine efficiency continues to improve perhaps that will become a reality!
The Holy Grail of rocketry.....is not full reusability....but SSTO.....that's gonna be EPIC....not if, but, WHEN it happens!!!
I'm sorry I'm so stupid Elon. But I can't stop thinking about all of this . Like how to get it up without an explosion to push it up. Can't you put it up through a different kind of movements

I have been saying it for a while that they need to reduce the weight and size of starship but review of a no-wealthy guy like me is a noise to people. You can't bruteforce space/rocket science.
By ‘v2’, he really means something like v4 or v40 depending on how granular you want to get about it. Point is, this is largely meaningless marketing b.s. In other words, it’s Tuesday for Elon.
So? Starship Version 1 hasn’t reached orbit and come back yet?
I’m waiting for V1 to work before I get excited about V2.
I agree. Musky works too fast sometimes.
@@gryph01 , we’ll, Starship V2 is probably due any time now, but I’m not getting excited about it until V1 works.

"sometimes we have to run before we can walk"
Let’s hope that Space X doesn’t let Elon do anything more complicated than make announcements
v2??
he called it V2??
That's what I was thinking
No it's called Starship. He said Starship version 2 is close. Why is everyone trying so hard to get triggered?
Wouldnt it be easier quicker and smarter to build a space habitat and mine asteroids for resources rather than terraforming mars ...as mars sits it is just as hostile as space to a human but it would be harder to go to and fro from a planet with the escape velocities and fuel needed...there is nothing on mars but planetary research and a lot of mars bound resources that are only really useful if you use them on mars...to take resources off planet seems silly if you can navigate space and go to asteroids
Can you change the voice and use a more natural/human voice? It's very monotonous.. . Otherwise good job on your videos ;)
6:07 are those tampons? 😂😂
I'm talking to Elon Musk please.
This should have been done in 1995. Its 2023. We should have colonies on Mars. None of this is impressive.

Ah ze V2.
He can make whatever he wants as long as he is sitting on top of the next test flight.

I think he's proven that he can make whatever he wants without having to do that.
Starship "V2", eh? Slightly unfortunate connotations in designation terms. Might be worth opting for a less "nazi" name for the upgrade.
It's important!
V2 sounds good though, people should be able to make the difference between V for "Version" and V for "Vergeltungswaffe" (Vengeance weapon).
If it wasn't for the V2 rocket science would be farther behind. V2's were liquid fueled (LOX and alcohol). A modified engine was used as the first stage of the Mercury rocket.
